Charlotte Battenburg // Accumula Town
With a little bit of annoyance, Charlotte looked up to see her group gone and engaged in some sort of situation outside. She gathered up her things, logged off, and opened the Pokemon Center door prepared to confront them.
What she saw outside was an extremely weird-looking adult in ostentatious medieval clothes and a bunch of hooligans in a cult-looking uniform preaching some hippy-dippy garbage about Pokemon training being unethical. Charlotte immediately regret stepping into this situation and skulked back to the entrance of the Pokemon Center. The only reason she didn't walk away immediately with her head down was because her team was listening to them. Groups like this shouting crazy ideas were common in big cities like Castelia, and the residents generally knew well enough to not encourage them by making eye contact or acknowledging that they were there. But she guessed a small city like Accumula didn't see a lot of excitement like this.
Oh geez, now the girl with the Rufflet was even battling with them. What bad luck to have one of the people specifically call her out. She was hyperaware of passerbys giving the Plasma group (and by extension, her team fighting them) weird looks.

Darius Kollins
Location: Accumula Town Square
Darius followed Carmen and Kyrin outside after quickly getting C.V. from Nurse Joy. He followed them to the town square where this odd demonstration was being held.
As this 'Ghetsis' guy was finishing up, Darius remarked to his companions, "Call me a conspiracy theorist, but that sounded like a mad ploy to brainwash people into releasing their Pokemon to give the leaders of this 'Team Plasma' total control over the region."
When N approached Kyrin, Darius raised an eyebrow. "That or they're legitimately just a bunch of nutcases." Nobody could understand Pokemon, that was a thing for those old cartoons. Eh, he'd let it slide. Let people believe what they want to believe.
“The Pokedex, eh? So... You're going to confine many, many Pokemon in Pokeballs for that, then. I'm a trainer, too, but I can't help wondering... Are Pokémon really happy that way?”
Okay, what?? Part of Darius wanted to pick apart every syllable in that sentence for its ridiculousness. Yet another part was fascinated by it. Who could really tell what Pokemon thought and felt? This guy was definitely a nutcase, but a nutcase with a point. He glanced at the Snivy that stood on his shoulder. She didn't notice it, she seemed to be focused on the battle going on in front of them.

I'll put something here one day.

Kyrin was aware of the townspeople's strange stares, but surely they must be used to trainers fighting their Pokemon? Okay, maybe in the middle of the street wasn't the best idea, but anyway she wasn't the one who initiated the challenge. Hearing Carmen's cheering, nodded to thank her before focusing on the Purrloin.
It was scratching at Ruffle, though it was obvious that it wasn't wearing out Ruffle as much as it wanted to. Narrowing her eyes, Kyrin glanced at N, whose expression was indescribable as he watched the Pokemon fight. Or was that a hint of resignation?
Of course, Kyrin thought to herself. He was going on and on about the Pokemon's happiness just now. He obviously won't want to push Purrloin too far into doing something it probably isn't happy doing. Oh well, good for me.
"Ruffle! Peck it!" she instructed.
With another screech, Ruffle pecked the Purrloin hard on its head. That was a good move, and Ruffle didn't miss. Even though it was a basically full accuracy move, Kyrin couldn't help but feel proud for her feathered friend.
The Purrloin seemed dazed by the attack and swayed back and forth for a second before slumping onto the ground. Ruffle glanced up at Kyrin, gave a chirp and flew back to her.
She patted it on the head, smoothing its feathers once more. "Good job buddy, first trainer battle and we won!" Ruffle gave a happy chirp.
Kyrin glanced back at N, wondering what he wanted out of this battle and how he was going to respond to losing.

Pokemon Trainer N // Accumula Town
{Kyrin won the battle! She gained $900!}
N didn't recall Purrloin back into the Pokeball. He crouched down and gently picked the feline up, mindful of his wounds. He stood up and gently brushed his fur with his free hand. "I'm sorry you got hurt on my behalf," he whispered.
The Purrloin's eyes opened a slit and he meowed in reproach, but not about being hurt, about N being silly. It was a good battle, and Purrloin was stronger for it. N tilted his head but didn't understand why Pokemon would be happy to battle.
He glanced up at Ruffle and his trainer. She praised her Pokemon and used "we". "We won", not "I", as he was told was the norm.
N was very confused. Yet his heart had not changed.
"As long as Pokémon are confined in Pokeballs... Pokemon will never become perfect beings. I have to change the world for Pokemon, because they're my friends.”
Ruffles, Oscar and C.V. spoke and he listened for a bit, the Snivy pointing to a fourth trainer by the Pokemon Center with a huff. "Very well, I will battle you when we meet again, and see if you became stronger with the help of humans." He looked at the trainers, now. "I will remember your names then, Kyrin, Carmen, Darius and Charlotte." He then turned on his heels, Purrloin still cradled carefully in his arms, and walked away without a backward glance.
Everyone felt a bit harried after that fight, and collectively agreed to call it a day. They headed back to the PokeCenter, rented rooms and spent the rest of their afternoon with their Pokemon, trying out the facilities.
The next morning, they finally could explore the town, then move on to Route 2.
{It is now morning of the next day. You are free to explore the town and talk about the events of yesterday. You can have a short summary of what you did at the PokeCenter the day before, if you wish. When you are ready to move on, I'll post the GM post to Route 2}

Carmen woke up with a yawn, sliding out of bed and stretching. What a weird day yesterday... she thought. She hadn't really gotten an opportunity to talk to the others about the events at the town square, but she did remember Darius' theory. And it was an... interesting one for sure. Being the only people with the power of Pokemon would put them at the top of the totem pole... Carmen shook the idea off. What kind of psychopaths would do that? Maybe they were just... er, eccentric. She thought. She got ready for the day, then glanced down at Oscar, snoozing away on a pile of blankets.
Carmen squatted down, and poked Oscar. "C'mon, buddy. It's a new day!" Oscar's eyes flew open in surprise, throwing a water jet in her face. Carmen, who was now dripping wet, blinked a few times, staring at Oscar. Oscar sprang up and gave an apologetic hug. Carmen sighed. "I forgive you... but I have to meet the others down stairs any minute now..." She sighed. "Oh well. I'll dry off later. Let's go." She said as she turned to the door, walking downstairs and hurrying past the lobby, standing just outside the PokeCenter as she waited for the other Trainers.

Yesterday was quite a strange day. After the battle ended, the young man even spoke to Ruffle and her teammates’ Pokemon, and remembered their names. And he wanted to see if they’ll become stronger under their Trainers.
Kyrin gave a shrug. Whoever this man and Team Plasma were, she wasn’t too concerned. At least she wasn’t being put into mortal danger by them, so that wasn’t a big problem yet.
Going out of the rented room and into the common Pokecenter space, she remembered seeing Charlotte texting someone yesterday. Ah yes, I wanted to ask her about the ace Trainers before the street battle happened.
Seeing that Charlotte wasn’t here yet, Kyrin sat by to wait, watching the townspeople come and go with Ruffle perched on her shoulder.

Charlotte Battenberg // Accumula Town
"I will remember your names then, Kyrin, Carmen, Darius and Charlotte."
Ah Charlotte thought. So that's what all their names are.
A pause. Ew, how did he know that? Stalker!
Charlotte Battenberg // Accumula Town, Pokemon Center
After dinner and a few hours of research (both League research and also to see if the green-haired man was on any police watchlists), Charlotte retired to her room. The room was extremely small, but that was understandable considering it was free and the building was meant to house every new trainer who passed by.
Before going to bed, she sighed and dialed up her family's home phone number. She did promise to check in after her first day.
She heard her father pick up, "Hello, is this Charlotte?"
"Yes," she sat down. "I picked up my starter from Professor Juniper earlier today, and I'm at the Accumula Pokemon Center right now. My group is planning on staying in town tomorrow to train, and then heading to Striation the day after for the first gym."
"It sounds like you're on track then. Which starter did you pick?"
"Tepig. Based on the weaknesses of the earlier gyms and the relative lack of fire-types in Unova, a fire type is the best option to start with."
There was a pause, and then a sigh, "Really Charlotte, I expected you to do more sophisticated research before making a decision like this."
Charlotte heart rate shot up. "What do you mean?"
"I had Professor Juniper send me information about the Pokemon she was letting your group select from. Of all the Pokemon, Serperior with the Contrary ability is the only one considered strategic in international competitive battling. If you were looking at higher-level sources and had the foresight to ask Juniper about each Pokemon's abilities before choosing, you should have clearly seen this opportunity."
"Well, Juniper had us line up in order of when our applications were sent in," Charlotte retorted lamely. "Snivy was taken before I got to choose."
"Well there's a simple solution to that. Offer to trade."
"What?!"
"Find the trainer who took the Snivy before you and offer to trade. Most young trainers don't think past beating the Gym Challenge, so it's likely they don't know about Snivy's potential. You're early enough so this mistake won't ruin your chances to make it, so don't let it slip by you."
That was true. It was so like her father, like anyone in her family, to reason through this situation quickly and logically. But even if they had only been together for one day, it felt wrong to give up Wilbur and all the work they had spent together perfecting his Tackle just because C.V. was born with a special ability. But they were just Pokemon, and they would forget. This was a question of Charlotte's future.
Before she could respond, her father continued talking. "Charlotte, we let you become a trainer because we thought you would be able to stand out in this field. If you're really thinking like every other 15-year-old hopeful who are just going to end up their whole life as a low-level Gym Trainer.... you should come back home and we can reevaluate your options."
"Yeah right," Charlotte snapped. "All you know about being a trainer is what your snobby students tell you. I decide what I do now, and I'm not going to trade my Tepig and I'm not coming home!"
She hung up and released Wilbur from his pokeball and hugged him tightly. Wilbur was confused, but could figure his trainer was upset. He snuggled into her hair as Charlotte fumed silently.
Charlotte did not get a lot of sleep. She had spent an extra hour imagining fake arguments with her father in her head, and then stayed up for five more hours furiously reading up on international competitive battling on her phone. By the second hour, she was already too tired to retain anything and therefore had a pretty unproductive night.
She joined Carmen and Kyrin in the lounge. "Are we still waiting for Darius?"

Darius Kollins
Location: Accumula Pokemon Center
As Darius went to bed that evening, he set an alarm on his Xtransceiver. He had been considering, and decided to take that trade offer in the Trading Hall downstairs, the one that offered a Joltik. He knew this would make his team more susceptible to the Fire-type team in Striaton, but he didn't care.
Location: Unova Route One
The sun was barely up as Darius and C.V. set out on Route One again. As Darius explained to C.V. earlier, it shouldn't be too hard to find a Lillipup. Essentially just a grab-and-go mission!
Unfortunately, as soon as the team of two stepped into the grass, a Patrat jumped out at them. Darius rolled his eyes. "Unfortunate, but expected. C.V.?" After only a couple of Tackles, the poor rodent was very disoriented and definitely incapable of battling any further.
Thankfully, the next encounter was a luckier one. A Lillipup gave a hyperactive yap as it charged through the grass at C.V. Before he could even make an attack, Darius had a Pokeball in his hand and threw it at the puppy Pokemon. The pup broke out after the second shake, however.
Darius groaned. "They've gotta make a way to salvage these things. C.V., Vine Whip." The Grass Snake Pokemon obeyed, and immediately took a Tackle from her opponent. One more Vine Whip, and Lillipup was weakened. Darius threw a second Pokeball at the target. He crossed his fingers at the third shake, waiting for the congratulatory sound. The capture orb gave a low ding, signifying a catch. Darius breather a sigh of relief as he picked up the Pokeball. "Nice job! We did it, C.V.!"
Location: Accumula Town Pokemon Center
Darius stepped through the glass sliding doors and looked around the lounge area. None of his group were there yet. He figured that it was about the time that they were going to get up. That gave him just enough time to heal C.V. and the Lillipup before making the trade.
Darius made his way to the trading terminal, where he handed in the Lillipup. He selected the Joltik trade on the computer screen, and watched as a Quick Ball popped out. "Ooo, nice!" he exclaimed. He pressed the button on the front and watched as it released a small bug onto the counter. The Joltik looked up into Darius's eyes.

"Hey Joltik," Darius said. "I'm your new trainer." He laid his hand out onto the table for Joltik to crawl onto. "Would you like a ride?" The Joltik timidly climbed aboard. Darius raised his hand to his shoulder, where C.V. was standing. "This is your teammate, C.V. She's a Snivy, and she'll take good care of you. Right, C.V.?" C.V. looked apprehensively at the bug Pokemon. Darius frowned. "Now, now, C.V., be nice. He's the one who will be fighting all those nasty Flying-type Pokemon for you." C.V.'s glare softened a little.
Darius walked out of the Trading Terminal into the main lounge of the Pokecenter, where he found the rest of his group waiting. "Hey guys!" He waved at the group. "I just got a second team member!"

Carmen's eyes lit up as she spotted the Joltik. "Ahhh, he's so cute and spiky! So you took up that fellow's offer, then? Wow, you must've gotten up early!" Carmen held out her hand to the small yellow bug. "Do ya have a name for 'em yet?" As Carmen touched the Joltik, she squealed, and pulled back her hand rapidly, rubbing her fingers. "Right, electric type..." she mumbled. "Doesn't help that I'm still all wet..." she said, staring at Oscar.
"So anyways, what did you guys think of that... uh, event yesterday? Team Plasma and that weird fellow N?" She hesitated. "He acted like.. like he could understand our Pokemon. Not like in the way that we sort of get what they mean, but like he actually knows what they're saying. He has to be crazy, right? No one can understand Pokemon. That's just something in books."

Kyrin brightened up upon seeing Charlotte's arrival.
"Well, yes," Kyrin responded. "There he is." Darius was waving to them and walking over, something yellow on his other shoulder. Kyrin squinted.
"Oh?" she said in response to Darius's announcement. Her Pokedex registered the Pokemon as a Joltik. Her eyes widened as she saw the small spidery creature, and backed away a little. "Ah, I don't really fancy arachnid-like creatures," she cast an apologetic glance at Darius. "But I suppose I will warm up to it over time."
Kyrin frowned a little and tilted her head at Carmen's comment. Well yes, Team Plasma was indeed strange. And N too. But they didn't harm us, and N didn't harm Ruffle in the battle yesterday.
"I'm not sure, but maybe N did talk to our Pokemon," she answered, glancing at all their Pokemons. "Maybe that's how he got our names. But if that wasn't how he got our names, I wonder how he did."
Kyrin glanced down at Ruffle, who chirped a little in response. She looked back at the group. "Oh well, we haven't been put into danger by Team Plasma yet. And, they seem like a bunch of people dressing up as medieval knights. With a strange leader and a green-haired accomplice who claims to understand Pokemon." She looked thoughtful. "Who knows? Maybe they're a strange cult, maybe they're... Pokemon rights activists. What do you guys think?"
Remembering what she wanted to ask Charlotte, she turned and asked hopefully, "Oh yeah, I heard you and Darius speaking to the ace trainers earlier yesterday, back on Route One. Could I get their numbers from you?"
Maybe that would help Carmen too, as she didn't get the numbers either.
