The guard recoiled at the sudden shouts of the 'kitty'. Serkan, seeing the disturbance, carefully placed his palm on Flynn's shoulder, hissing a "Quiet!" at her.
He then shifted weight and addressed the guard, "This is... holy, ah... city? We're... sorry, but... what's going on?"
"You don't know?" the woman asked.
"We are-not... from here."
"Our world is being slowly pulled apart by something. No one knows what, but the crust already has huge rends to its surface," the guard explained. "But we have located the source of the catastrophe..."

Flynn sighed as she rolled her eyes. *Huh!* She thought girlishly. She sighed as she said, "So something is destroying your planet. Why do I have a soaring feeling that WE are going to stop it?" She asked, sighing again.

"Will you?!" the guard cried as she dropped to one knee. "Please! You must save us!" Fear and dread showed clearly in her eyes.
Serkan stepped back, unsure of what to do. He's never worked for humans before, let alone on a world he's never seen before. But hey, adventure is in his bloo- well, no I guess since he doesn't have any blood that saying is out of the question... Hmm...

Flynn gulped. "Oh... well, uh, I guess we can try!" Then, leaning over to Serkan, she whispered, "If I die, bury my in a field somewhere that has a lot of roses."

Serkan nodded, jokingly. If he had expressions, it would have been something between sarcasm and a sneer.
"Oh! Thank you!" the guard cried. She pulled out a small map and began scribbling out random spots.
"What- er, are you... doing?" Serkan asked as he rubbed his fingers together.
"You'll have to open the barrior by disabling the reactors across the land before you can stop the main threat."
"What?" Serkan asked, unbelief obviously tinted his voice.

Flynn sighed. "If you die, then I'll bury you someplace rocky." She then turned her attention to the guard. "Maybe if we had a guide..."

The guard's face fell. "I- I- don't think anyone- *gulp* -is brave enough to-"
"Don't bother," Serkan growled, now starting to get annoyed by this human's petty emotion. "Just point... us in- right direction... Oh, and give... us supplies."
The guard recomposed herself and nodded, waving a hand over part of the city, saying, "Markets and taverns are in this section of the city. I'm sure if you tell them that you are going to stop the destruction of our world they'll help willingly." With that she handed the map to Flynn and marched off.
Serkan watched her go then turned to Flynn, a black visor flashing a slightly unsure look.

"What? What are you looking at me for, captain?" Flynn looked through half closed eyes back. "We should probably start, then." She turned toward the city. "Coming?"

"You seem... to do well... you be... captain." Serkan said from behind her as they walked into the market. Fruit and vegetable boxes were overturned, and everything was in disarray. Only a select few brave merchants still stood, shouting their wares.
After a few hours of browsing and bartering, Flynn and Serkan carried each a small bag of food, water, and other supplies. These included: a pocketknife, a small tent kit, sleeping bag, lantern and oil, and the map.
"Shall we... go?"

"Why do you stutter like that? You keep pausing, and it's starting to make me nervous, lieutenant." Flynn said as she started to head toward the exit. "Where should we go first? And what way is north? Or is it east? Huh..."
