An Imperial father with a gaggle of hatchlings in tow excitedly chats with his kids about which team they think will win. An elderly Tundra couple, snowbirds fleeing the cold of the Icefields, takes a seat on an enormous fallen log. A Spiral hatchling winds her way up the trunk of a tall tree to get a better view. A huge golden clock magically suspended in air strikes noon, and an elegantly-dressed bright orange Mirror dragon steps up near it, clearing his throat and adjusting his silver-rimmed spectacles. "Welcome!" he shouts in a booming voice as dragons continue to filter in from the foliage surrounding the gardens. "On this first day of the epic battle between the Nature and Fire flights, we present to you an entertaining diversion—the Rainforest Raaaaaaaallyyyyyy!" Dragons start to cheer and hatchlings wiggle in their parents' laps in excitement. While the race itself will take seven days, many have come to watch dragons complete the first leg, taking seats all along the race route. "My name is Sixeye Saffron and I will be your host," says the Mirror, taking a bow, his floppy ears covering his face before he faces his audience again. "The Rainforest Rally isn't like any other kind of sporting event," he continues. "A rally is a special kind of race where participants have to complete objectives and score points. Teams must achieve a balance between scoring points in challenges [i]and[/i] completing each leg of the race quickly. The team who reaches the finish line first isn't necessarily the winner." He pauses to allow the audience to digest this information. Dragons are now listening intently as he explains, and it seems like the whole forest has a spotlight on Sixeye, his bright green eyes scanning the crowd. "In addition, this is a relay race! A relay rally, if you will. Each day has its own challenge and a different dragon for each challenge. And there's more! You, the spectators, can earn raffle tickets by sending items to help our brave teams. From creature comforts like food and bedding to expert help in navigating the forest, we offer a variety of sponsor items so you can support your favorite team." A tiny Fae dragon flitting over a table full of sponsor items dashes some magic dust over the assembly to draw the audience's attention. Her little pink body hops from item to item as Sixeye describes each one. "For the glory of the Gladekeeper, these teams will brave the worst the Shrieking Wilds have to throw at them," continues Sixeye. "The race ends at the Behemoth, where all the teams will face our leafy mother to receive her blessing." At the mention of the Behemoth, many of the audience members glance over at the enormous tree, towering in the distance like a small mountain. It's a long way from here to there, and already, some dragons have brought their own camping equipment so they can follow each leg of the race along with the teams. "Now, let's introduce the contestants and teams," yells Sixeye, whose enthusiasm seems to be growing along with the audience's. "Are. You. READY?" The crowd goes wild. This race is similar to a relay race—the day 2 dragon will pick up where the day 1 dragon left off, and so on. However, it is also a rally race, meaning it’s not just about speed—in the course of their journey, dragons have to complete objectives in order to impress Glademom! Participants of any flight can send in a Nature dragon on day 1 or 2 to join a team. In this thread, I will describe the events that happen to the dragons as the race progresses and provide an account of the teams’ progress. Anyone is welcome to roleplay along with the overall story! Every day, you can send in sponsor items for a fee to support a team. Items may help in unexpected ways, so it’s not just a matter of throwing money at your team.
