Her mate, Professor Stone, fiddled with the camera... he had to get a shot that was PERFECT... and we all know that means taking LOTS of pictures! Eventually, it would be her turn at the starting line, and so she shoo'd at him, telling him to go take as many pictures of CATS as he possibly could... it would distract him, she knew- not because he liked cats, no no... because he HATED them! "I'm Allergic!" he objected loudly. "Oh you are not. I want a record of all the cats running about at the games this year, Stone! For me?" ....oh those eyes... glittering, ice-born eyes... he melted. Fuzzily, he promised, "I'll get right on it.." and shambled off to do as he was bid... they made such a fantastic pair- but Flax just couldn't let him worry and fret at the finish line. Cross Country Skiing was an oftentimes LONG event... a long distance had to be traveled, and one needed to concentrate! Pacing well, breathing through her sweeping strokes, all things she knew by heart! Watching for perils would come naturally to her! The bright Coatl shook herself once, and did another few stretches before she took her gear to the starting line... it was time. Time to see if her old skills of traversing the northern ice fields on skis would turn out to have application here in the games, in competition! She just wasn't the kind of Dragon to care if she won or not... she DID want to make a proper showing of it, however... she might be a researcher, a lover of cataloguing her mate's many discoveries as well as her own- but she was hale and hardy and proud too, of her heritage and her skills... skills that once got her to some of the most remote sites in her homeland, back when she was a mere 'digger' in her field. Not ALL Archaeology had to be exciting and dangerous, she huffed happily to herself... the loveliness of the swoosh of skis on the snow would soon warm her heart again, as she made for a distant finish line and a daring long course to navigate... "Lets show these hatchlings just where it's AT!" She chortled, as she slipped her goggles into place and took hold of the ski poles. She was off! His teammates waited patiently, trusting his judgment and focus, as they adjusted their grips on their brooms. They'd watched the Tundra practice and knew his process. He carefully chose an opponent stone, took aim, balanced himself in the blocks, and launched. His fur picked up crystals of ice as he pushed the stone forward, tuft tips aglitter, and the sweepers' work began. Xochi burbled excitedly at his clanmates as they swept together, easing the stone's path with ferocious attention. Torys and Clever Girl took his strange encouragement, sweeping ever faster, and the stone picked up some speed, gliding intently after its target. Tu'uq'a cheered, then warned his mates to ease up, and Clever Girl skated back, large talons clicking on the ice in her rush. Xochi stepped back, then Torys finished it off, following the stone as it clacked into one of its fellows and pushed it from the house. All four dragons hooted in triumph while their stone ground to a halt near the front center of the house. They were off to a fine start. Now, they just needed to maintain it for the next... how many rounds was it, again? Tu'uq'a scratched an ear as he fought to recall, then shrugged it off, content with their position.

Sometimes he thought it was time to let the youngsters do this, that it was time for him to retire. But what was the harm in fun little competitions like this? He'd been one of the best in his youth. And he had to admit it, he still got it. Left, right, left, right. Push and sliiiiiide down the hill. Push, push, left right left right faster, up the hill. He passed couple of younger competitors in the uphill, one of his specials. He was gliding on the track, enjoying what might be one of his last competitions. And he smiled, thinking of all the years he'd spend with his favorite past time. It gave him more strength to ski on, to go faster and faster.[/center]

I know but our participating in these events is also a publicity stunt, isn't it? We are the Gemstone Dance Troupe, who would we be without dancing?" Ruby asked, after enduring two hours of Eiyora grumbling and crying about the trauma she had experienced for the past four days, and begging for Ruby to just participate in the event without dancing. "We really do need the exposure, Eiyora. To better find the others." Ruby persuaded. Eiyora could only sigh while agreeing with Ruby in her mind but not voicing this agreement out loud. She wished Ruby good luck and told her to be careful before moving to the audience stand. Ruby fastened her ski and waited for the competition to start. When the starting horn blew, all the dragons pushed off and began dividing into lanes on the course. Ruby strided forward, weaving little dancing motions into her movements, clearly finding a middle ground between competing and dancing. When she switched lanes, she would jump and do a little twist before landing on the next lane, and as she approached the first bend, she started twirling but managed to keep safely within the course. Eiyora was relieved but started to worry when she thought she saw the snow around Ruby seem to loosen as she goes by. In Eiyora's paranoid mind, this was Ruby's strong affinity to the fire element showing itself as she danced, which she knew Ruby can't quite control yet. Eiyora was panicking and began unconsciously chanting, "Please, no flooding, no flooding..." Clearly, the last four days have given poor Eiyora too much anxiety that she was starting to worry about things that would never happen. In reality, Ruby was giving the audience quite a performance while trailing not far behind the leading group.

That is the best feeling in the world, which is why he is volunteering for the ski jumping event. He wasn't sure if he has what it takes to win this competition, but he knew he was definitely going to enjoy it. He fasten his ski and took off, crouching low on the in-run and spreading his wings during flight. He wished time could stop now, at this moment, where he is at the highest point in the sky and looking down at the gorgeous scenery around him but alas, it was not to be. Winterfalcon landed safely and took one long lasting look at the sky before walking away reluctantly.
