It was Clan Twinstar's last day at the games, and everyone had insisted that the Dreamer himself participate in some manner, seeing as how he'd sat out the previous year. Unfortunately, since all the other events had been snatched up by his fellow clanmates, the Tundra was left with no choice but to attempt the huge Ski Jump. Kelran certainly wasn't afraid of heights, but the chilly winds up here cut through even his thick coat of fur, and the audience stands at the base of the mountain seemed so very far away. Just as he was about to chicken out and call it quits, he heard a familiar voice behind him. "Come on, Kelran, you can do it!" It was Gazer, Clan Twinstar's Matriarch and Kelran's mate. "Show all of Sornieth what Clan Twinstar can do!" Kelran cracked a nervous smile at the Mirror dragon before turning once more towards the edge of the ramp. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. Then, with one smooth motion, he pushed himself down the slopes, bracing himself for the jump. One way or another, this would be an event for the whole Clan to remember!

"Will you shut up?!" demanded his roommate Purotu, slamming a pillow over his head.

"NOPE! Nope, nope, nope!"

He flew out into the corridor and began banging on doors.

"Get up, Nightline! 29519820.png

"Get up, get up, get up!" he cheered.

Dominic pattered down the stairs. 29415666.png

"You know they can hear you all the way up in the High Queen's suite?" he demanded. "If Her Serene Highness didn't want a repeat medal so bad, she probably would've fired you this morning and had Rose take your place as captain!"

"Oh, Rose would've loved that!" Nightline said with a gleeful sarcasm.

"You know, I think you'd be perfect as the third," Mooi said conversationally as Dominic leaned against the wall.

"Is that supposed to be an insult?"

"Actually, the third works the hardest--at least in my opinion. You chuck the final two stones, you set up all the shots, and you get to post the score after each attempt."

Mooi looked at the girls and thought hard about his next placements.

"No. You know what? I want you to be the lead, Dominic. If we have Andraste out there as the lead or the second, the judges will accuse her of using the Sight to know where to sweep. Andraste would be better off as the third, and we can put Nightline on as the second."

Curling stones. You can't curl stones." Singe piped up, annoyingly smug, "Maybe you can't curl stones but we're not all as puny as you. My scissors," he adds, flexing his massive claws, "can cut through rock." "We need a fourth dragon," came Almandine's slow rumble. "Hey, what are you guys talking about?" chirped Hornwort as she approached the group. "She can join us. There, that's four. Not that I couldn't ace this competition on my own," Lush proclaimed. "Your arms are kinda short, though," said Singe, eyeing the Wildclaw judgementally. Lush dismissed this with a wave of his tail, "She can hold the ribbon in her teeth, I hardly think any strenuous arm movement is going to be involved." The matter decided, the dragons listed their names on the sign-up sheet, Hornwort muttering, "I still don't know what we're talking about."

She was glad she brought her snow goggles, crafted by her clanmate Thistledown out of broken bottles carefully worked into lenses. Skiing cross-country might not be the fastest sport in the winter games, but drifting snow still flecked her face, and occasionally a larger dragon would near her, sending sprays of snow up everywhere. She wasn't sure how far along she was, but her legs ached with effort. Her skis were fae-sized, but she was much more used to flying, and they felt cumbersome and unwieldy on her tiny feet. She glanced up to check where the sun was. Cypress, her sister had promised a warm mug of hot chocolate with moth-mallows when Sage got back home. It was a bit past noon. The finish can't come soon enough.

Ski Jumping: A shriek. A cry. A terrible, high-pitched noise that pierces through the air, making dragons raise heads and huddle in fear. "WheeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Silence reigns for a moment, and then the haunting call repeats. "WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Witnesses would later report a demon blazing down the hill, propelled by hate and fury and death. Those with more wits and better eyes, though, would describe it instead as "an absolute mess on skiis, careening through the air and flailing insanely, having the time of her life". As Ava laughed at him, he grew angry and hissed,”You’d think to be a bit more helpful here, Mother Ava.” His tone was filled with mockery, but he could see Ava’s grimace before her wings enclosed his face and got to work on untangling him. “It’s no surprise you get bullied on your first day here,” She sniped back, almost letting him fall if not for Iter moving a giant arm to catch Isek in. The bogsneak glared at the two of them. “You two, better off being the pucks.” His voice was hesitant, as if he wasn’t sure if it would be taken in the same tone the two fae’s seemed to communicate in. But they both laughed and pressed their wings repeatedly against his face, and he smiled. Behind them, their fourth teammate was stretched out on the floor near (if not under) their equipment. Soon enough, they’d have to get ready to go out there, work as a makeshift team. He’d never had to be on a curling team with two faes before, but they seemed close, as he opened his eyes to watch them fly about him, training in speed. They were fast, and knew each other’s moves well. He wasn’t convinced they’d be good enough on the team, but he had seen Iter compete before, and had watched Ava in battle - angry and precise. They’d practiced, and stretched, and fought and nearly froze the first two days before they found their friends. He was too ready to get this over with, the nervous energy making the blanket of equipment on him rattle. It was Iter that came over, snapping at the faes and letting them dodge, and pressed his face against the laying skydancer. “Let’s prep. We’re not far back.”
“Poor Isek,” The snickering fae crooned over to her teammate, “Stuck, stuck stuck.” She flew over to him, glancing back at the Bogsneak who trailed after. “Look at him,” Ava giggled, hopping onto Iter’s head to be face to face with the other fae, who was pale faced, and unmistakingly wrapped up in the strings of two skates thrown together.
