Uncommon. The female Sakura Owl partakes in a unique breeding display known as "blooming" where she grows an abundance of extra feathers. When she has attracted a mate and the eggs are laid, she molts all of her feathers at once, rendering her flightless for a period of several weeks. During this time she remains on the nest to incubate the eggs while the mate hunts for both. The older the bird, the more extra blooming feathers are grown.
