Her eyes are like a fawn’s, wide and innocent, and Hammerhead hates how vulnerable she is being with him. It’s out of character for his queen, and yet, it’s heartwarming. The idea that she seemingly cares about him enough to ask about his past fills him with childish glee.
He laughs, sighs. “You really want to know?” He smirks.
She grins, touches her nose to his. “Yes!” She laughs. “Tell me.”
And the words don’t come to him for a long moment.
“I was a pirate,” he says finally. Penny’s brow furrows in confusion. Hammerhead grins. “No, really. I’m serious. I wouldn’t call myself one, but I basically roamed around out here with a little troupe, picking fights with the Beastclans, outsmarting them for petty change.”
She seems to ponder this a moment, and says nothing. “Eventually, I did some things I regretted. I went beyond what we had agreed upon, as a troupe, and they left me out here to die. I had no direction, really,” he laughs sheepishly. “I know it’s stupid. It was stupid.” She looks up at him shaking her head, but his eyes are downcast. He continues. “But…then, I uh, I met you - guys, and I really believe in what we’re doing here, you know?” He looks up, meets her gaze. “I believe in us, Penny.”
She sits up, nestling under his chin, wrapping a wing around his back. He stiffens, unfamiliar with such tenderness. “Thank you,” she whispers, and his heart is in the clouds.

His savior arrives in the form of a surly-looking ridgeback, who hoists Olm onto his back and doesn’t unbind him until they reach the shoddy lean-to the ridgeback and his…girlfriend, or something, are calling home. It’s a precaution, he figures, and waits patiently as the ridgeback cuts his bindings, eyeing him cautiously.
The imperial is a spritely thing, and she seems to glide across the room in fluid movements, akin to a butterfly. The ridgeback, on the other hand, is a rock, and moves in sharp, precise gestures. Together, they move like clockwork, tending to his wounds and mumbling quietly to one another, a murmur punctuated only by brief questions such as [i] are you feeling okay [/i] and [i] does this hurt? [/i]
The pearlcatcher stretches his arms, wringing out his sore wrists, stretching his legs, and elongating his spine, answering every question coolly. He likes this lot - he wants to make things easy for them.
“Tell us, traveler, what happened to you?” says the imperial, gliding out of sight - to tend to wounds along his back, presumably.
He looks back, opens his mouth to speak, before he realizes - something is missing.
His wings are gone.

It's colder than usual.
The winds seem to roll across the mountain with greater ferocity, and Altimir's bedding is lined with traces of frost. [i]I am built for this[/i], she reminds herself, curling around her eggs with a mother's intensity.
Leave it to them to bear five eggs, when they can barely find enough food for themselves. Draled hunts well past workable daylight, but Altimir doesn't know how to tell him a hare or two won't feed seven. She rests her head back down in the nest, lost in thought. The west was supposed to be full of gold and promise, but all they've found so far has been Beastclans - no place to build a home.
That is, until the sun hangs low in the sky and Draled returns, intensity in his voice as he tells her gently to [i]get up, and pack up the eggs[/i], because he's spotted a band of dragons to the south - somewhere they may be able to find sanctuary. She gathers the eggs in her cloth sling, tucking them up under her wing, in an attempt to protect them from the cold.
They move that night, in an attempt to avoid the roving troupes of Beastclans. They can't fly, either - aside from being a threat to the eggs, it makes them more likely to be seen. The snow comes down relentlessly, and the two intertwine their tails as they trudge forwards down the mountain. Altimir knows she cannot cry.
In the valley, it is quiet, and the snow falls gently and aimlessly, and does not stick. The pair walks through the tall grass, heads hung low. "It's just a little bit further, sweetpuff," encourages Draled, pressing his nose to her cheek as they push through the grass. Her paws are sore, and thorns are caught in her thick fur. She nods.
Penny wakes to the gentle sound of knocking on wood, and her eyes flutter open to meet the wide eyes of a spiral, peering anxiously down at her. He blinks, seemingly more startled than she. "I'm so sorry to wake you," he whispers. "P-please don't hurt me-us..."
She rises to a seated position, extending her talons as a gesture of peace. "It's alright," she murmurs, voice still hoarse from sleep. She looks behind him, spots the small patch of rustling grass from which a small tundra emerges, looking tired. "And what are your names?" she asks gently, though she doesn't wait for an answer from the spiral; she is rushing to help the tundra, who is stumbling and weak. Penny notices the pack that peeks out from under her wing. [i]Eggs[/i]. A pang strikes her chest, and she reaches out to help guide the tundra towards camp. "It's alright now," Penny says gently. "You're all safe with us, okay?"

Literally within the span of today we've acquired FIVE new dragons. Bruh. I dont even know how to write lore for this. Enjoy what's basically an update/introduction for all the adults so far :]

[center]The cold snap has driven many dragons out of hiding, it seems, and right into the jowls of the valley. A small troupe finds the gang later in the day, the trio shivering and thin. Penny, of course, cannot turn away a dragon in need. Hammerhead, on the other hand, is still wary after his encounter with Maximo, but he silently bows his head in greeting as the trio make their way into camp.
The trio introduce themselves as [b]Dakota, Aravi, and Venik[/b], and immediately offer their assistance, despite standing on unsteady legs. Menoetius opens his mouth to suggest a task, but is interrupted by Penny, who instead ushers them inside to rest.
[b]Altimir[/b] is recovering in Penny's nest, and [b]Draled[/b] has proven himself quite useful already, offering a helping hand to Hammerhead in constructing the second lean-to. He's a bit skittish, and talks rather quickly, but he's a very eager help, and Hammerhead can't complain.
[b]Olm[/b] has been keeping himself busy, and has barely been inside the lean-to since being treated for his wounds. Penny figures he just doesn't want to talk about it - he fell eerily silent when asked about his injuries. This concerned Hammerhead, but Olm seemed an earnest dragon, though quite stubborn - he gets snippy when people ask him if he needs help.
[b]Opaline[/b] reminds Penny too much of Maru. He's more bookish, and not as playful, but he's got that same youthful inquisition about everything. When he told Penny he was going on a hunting trip with Hammerhead, dipping his head to her in respect, she felt some sort of maternal dread well up in her throat. They returned with barely any scratches, so all must be well, right?
[b]Menoetius[/b] grew up too fast, Penny thinks. His eyes are dark and he doesn't say much - he tends to Arcadia with a nervous intensity. She appreciates the help, though she has a strange feeling it comes from a darker past. She doesn't have the heart to pry. [/center]
