Though it does hinder his work sometimes, he enjoys the thrill of not knowing where he’ll end up next… even if it often leaves him escaping from death or capture. Sometimes, he uses the time to test out his latest potions and other creations, some of which end up backfiring on him on his more unfortunate days. There are a few rumours about his background, including rumours of him being a deity’s creation, some weird Arcanist-manufactured accident, and others. All of those are merely in jest, however, since nobody really knows how Bakura actually came to be. To be fair, it’s not like the guy himself knows either. All he knows is that he just kind of appeared one day with fuzzy memories and powers that no ordinary dragon should have, like being able to see people’s thoughts, or being able to ‘hack’ into people’s bodies and control them however he wants, almost like a virus, and more. Despite all of this, he’s a pacifist; runs away from conflict, hates seeing slaughter — the likes and all. Still, if the occasion calls for it, he won’t hesitate to use his tech-like powers to eliminate the dangers and stop the enemies forever. It isn’t that the Island’s inhabitants aren’t trustworthy; it’s just that things like these needs a little more secrecy.

Her parents were quite shocked when, instead of hatching out like any other dragon, she had been hatched by quite literally burning her eggshell and tumbling out, shining like a miniature sun and dripping wax all over the ground. Still, despite her peculiarities, and the fact that nobody was quite sure if she really is her parents’ biological daughter, they loved her all the same. One could imagine the struggles that came with raising a daughter who could burn and melt the things she didn’t like, but Hiyake had grown up pretty fine, and even managed to eventually find someone like her: Kosen, who was drawn to her like a moth to the light, and vice versa. Or in this case, a moth to the sun. Her parents were delighted to hear that she’d managed to find someone who’d love her like she is, and Kosen has been spoiled like a family member ever since. While she has to wear specially enchanted clothes in order to keep everything unburnt, Hiyake lives her life on the Island like all the other inhabitants do. She makes a living from candle-making, while Kosen sculpts statues — with the wax from both of them, of course, though they usually don’t tell their customers that particular bit anytime they mention how their shop’s wax products are better than anywhere else’s. Together, they’ve set up a pretty decent living for themselves, and Hiyake knows she wouldn’t have it any other way. Reuel has always acted a little weirdly around him, not that he minded, but it’s only in recent times that he’s started acting… differently. “You’re overthinking it,” [url= https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/74054698]Philomena[/url] tells him gently, passing him a cup of coffee — doppio with extra cream, like he’s always loved it — and smiling as he downs a quarter of it in one go. “I’m not,” he grumbles. He [i]knows[/i] he’s not. “Reuel has always been touchy, I guess, but he’s- he’s just-!” “Being more touchy?” “Exactly!” Stera gestures around vaguely. “And- well, I don’t [i]not[/i] like it, but he keeps smiling, and it’s making me feel all [i]gooey[/i] everytime he does it, and it’s- it’s [i]weird[/i].” “You’ve said the same thing for the past five minutes already,” Philomena cheerfully points out, though her voice is a little muffled from doing… something. Stera isn’t exactly watching her. “Yes; that’s because it [i]is[/i] weird, and you should really stop taking up that patronising tone with your customers.” “What patronising tone?” Philomena comes back to grab the empty cup — huh, Stera doesn’t recall drinking it all so quickly — and smiles at him, [i]patronisingly[/i]. “And besides, the answer is so [i]obvious[/i]. Not my fault I can’t help but laugh at your obliviousness.” “I’m not oblivious, you’re just looking into things that aren’t there.” Stera sighs. “Me and Reuel are just friends.” Absentmindedly, he reaches up a hand to rub at his chest. Weird; he’s been feeling more heart-pangs lately. A sun and the one who flew too close. Unlike you, though, I…” “You?” Icarus blinked. He couldn’t fathom why Hiyake looked so pained, but he suspected it had to do with the whole burning wings thing.
