Ahoy! My clan's lore is mainly centered around the Coli (I have two dragons who were anointed as "the Chosen of The Stormcatcher" personally by The Boss), so when I heard about this fodderlocke idea, I had to give it a try! More lore? More stories? More Exaltation!?!? what's not to love? Original Idea stolen from Squidragon here; the rules are all the same, just the storyline has been tweaked a bit for my own clan lore. Additional change to the rules re: buying: if I have an acceptable dragon in my hibden for the given challenge, I will utilize them instead of buying from the AH. I will also be leveling the new recruits to 7 (its my preferred level). edit: every 10 days (for this run, effective on day 70), the Stormcatcher will come down and visit the recruits - there will be 5 dramas, and there will be specific lore related to the Stormcatcher and His choices. The Setup Donatello, once considered as a potential breeder for the Midnight Skies Hatchery, one of three that existed within the Clan, never quite fit in with the others in the Hatchery, nor did she feel any want or need to perpetuate her bloodline, despite her sought after genetics. Instead of searching hopelessly and foolishly for love like the other Hatchery Dragons, she decided to give her heart to another, and follow in the path of her family; joining up with The Guard, to try her luck at The Training, and hoping for an honorable destiny, either joining The Guard permanently, or being accepted into The Stormcatcher's lair after her Training was complete. She had hibernated for a while, keeping a sleepy eye on the snoozing hatchlings that came in. She took a shine to four of them, and knew they would make great candidates for The Training. So, the day before the hatchlings would reach their maturity, Donatello took them from the hibernal den and provided letters of recommendation for each of them to Kaligosa, The Head Guard who would oversee their Training. Kaligosa accepted, and the five recruits, led by Donatello, began training as soon as they could. Donatello had a headstart, and so she leveled up ahead of them, and, already a leader to the young dragons, became a true leader. At the end of the mission, the band was celebrating the end of the first day when the Stormcatcher appeared in front of Duel, shocking everyone with electricity. "YOU! YOU HAVE TRAINED WELL TODAY. Next to her, Lafey stood tall. She scoffed at his intense colors; she had stood in the dark for her entire short life, and he knew nothing of her potential, the power that flowed through the runes engraved on her body. And yet, he stood, avoiding her gaze, pontificating. Her feathers fluttered in the breeze, and her runes shone brighter - she began to murmur the words that filled her mind, all she saw was red... "RECRUIT!" The Stormcatcher's voice boomed like thunder, stopping Jisa's words, and pulling her mind back from the dark place she had stood in. "ENOUGH OF THAT. KALIGOSA, VALIANT, PUT AN END TO THAT MADNESS BEFORE YOU PRESENT HER TO ME AGAIN." Jisa sunk lower to the ground, and hung her head in shame. She hadn't meant to... but Lafey just made her so ANGRY. Kaligosa twisted through the air towards them. "Of course, Boss." She bowed her head, and even she wasn't smiling - she always smiled. Jisa knew her training would be even more exhaustive and comprehensive. Lafey sniggered, and when the Stormcatcher agreed to accept him into His service, the Darkness almost took hold again... Drama of the Day: 10) Test the Newbies. Roll a d10 for each of your lowest-level dragons. If it’s higher than their level, exalt them. They were deemed worthy already! Raise the remaining low-level dragons by one level, they must train even harder. Upon returning from the Stormcatcher's lair, Kaligosa and Valiant lined up the most untrained recruits - Drost, Misty, Mightblade, and Jisa. Each would be given a test, and if they passed, they would be given immediate access to Exaltation. The four stood ready, prepared to face whatever test they were to be given. (all level 7) Drost: 7 Drost stood first in front of Kaligosa; his silk-like mane fanning in a distant breeze (how it remained so smooth and silky, even in this static was anyone's guess. Kaligosa swirled in the air before him. "Drost, your test will be this - enter the coliseum and bring me a tamed Furian. If you can do this, you shall be granted Exaltation!" The rest of the recruits waited as Drost eagerly raced off to the coliseum to attempt his test... He returned sometime later - he had tamed not a Furian, but a Coral Bumble. Kaligosa swung her head in disappointment. "I had expected better from you..." Misty: 6 Misty was next; she and Jisa had sat together while waiting for Drost to return, and now Jisa gave her a nod of encouragement. Misty nodded back with confidence, and walked towards the Spiral dragon with the Stormcatcher's markings. Kaligosa twisted in the breeze, and said, "Misty, your test will be thus: enter the lair of another clan, and bring back a Plague Runestone. This will be a fitting offering to the Stormcatcher, and he will be pleased to offer you Exaltation." Misty raced off, knowing exactly which dirty rotten clan she would aim to steal from. She used the cover of night to hide her movements, and approached the clan where her 'charming' ex lived with his new 'family'; she peered into the cave, and nearly gagged when she saw the nesting grounds. She caught movement out of the corner of her eye, and only just jumped out of the way of the large jaws of a Snapper; eyes peered at her from all over their body, and she shrieked - she leapt into the air to get away from the Snapper, and raced home before realizing she had failed her test. She sobered quickly, and when she landed, she hung her head in shame, her brilliant wings, which shined so brightly even at night, were pressed hard against her back, in the hopes to draw less attention. Kaligosa shook her head, and it was clear to the recruits that if too many of them failed the tests, they may in fact spend the rest of the day untying their leader.... Mightblade: 7 Mightblade moved into the center of Kaligosa's focus, though he did not wish to draw her ire. It was his turn to take the test, however. She breathed deeply, and forced herself to smile. It wasn't his fault that the first two had failed. Surely he wouldn't fail her. "Mightblade, your test will be thus: your uncle has challenged you to a duel. You will face him - should you defeat him in combat, you will have proven yourself worthy of the presence of the Stormcatcher." Fahdestyn, the bold imperial, stood tall and intimidating. Mightblade tried to stand tall against his mother's brother, but the Imperial towered over him, making him feel very much like a child. He was determined, however, and wished to join with his mother at the Stormcatcher's side. Mightblade squared up, wings at the ready, claws and jaws prepared for combat. He feinted left, and then dashed right, but Fahdestyn saw it coming - he grabbed his nephew by the scruff, standing on his hindlegs to show his full height. "You will one day be strong enough, wise enough, worthy enough to join your mother. Today is not that day, however." The Imperial placed Mightblade gently on the ground. Kaligosa flew away without administering the test to Jisa - she knew she would tie herself into knots (again) if they continued to fail, and she couldn't bear to watch. Valiant stepped forward, pushing Mightblade back towards the other recruits. Jisa:4 "Jisa," Valiant's voice was oddly soothing - perhaps it was his family that had softened his tone, cooled his temper; perhaps it was because he, too, had felt the sting of rejection from the Stormcatcher, and did not wish that pain on to anyone else. "Jisa, come forward." So she did, stepping forward lightly, letting her wings do most of the work. Valiant handed her a tamed Kamaitachi - they all had spent a lot of time in the Mire, so these vicious little creatures were particularly despised; no matter how tame, they still had those wicked scythes that would surely cut you to ribbons the second you turned your back. "Your test is simple - curse this. Use the darkness within you, and curse this creature. If you are successful, you will be deemed worthy to join the Stormcatcher." Jisa looked at him suspiciously - hadn't the Stormcatcher rejected her for trying just such a thing? Maybe He had meant cursing another recruit, or perhaps that she hadn't really meant to do it, it had been more instinctual than practiced or intentional? Or maybe the test was in the asking - prove that she wouldn't use her powers, reject the test? She stared at the creature that she held such hatred towards - and the darkness within her lit up, it wanted to curse that creature, regardless of Valiant's test. She hated the thing. But she also needed to be near the Stormcatcher, to reach exaltation. So, she followed her instincts, turned to Valiant, and said, "No, I will not curse this creature. Fail me if you must." Jisa stood before the Stormcatcher, her blood runes shining bright against her dark, feathered body.

(all level 7)
Drost: 7
Drost stood first in front of Kaligosa; his silk-like mane fanning in a distant breeze (how it remained so smooth and silky, even in this static was anyone's guess.

"I had expected better from you..."

Misty: 6

Misty was next; she and Jisa had sat together while waiting for Drost to return, and now Jisa gave her a nod of encouragement.

Mightblade: 7
Mightblade moved into the center of Kaligosa's focus, though he did not wish to draw her ire. It was his turn to take the test, however. She breathed deeply, and forced herself to smile. It wasn't his fault that the first two had failed. Surely he wouldn't fail her. "Mightblade, your test will be thus: your uncle has challenged you to a duel. You will face him - should you defeat him in combat, you will have proven yourself worthy of the presence of the Stormcatcher."
Fahdestyn, the bold imperial, stood tall and intimidating.

Jisa:4
"Jisa," Valiant's voice was oddly soothing - perhaps it was his family that had softened his tone, cooled his temper; perhaps it was because he, too, had felt the sting of rejection from the Stormcatcher, and did not wish that pain on to anyone else.
Fail me if you must." She turned back towards the rest of the recruits, hoping she was right.
"Congratulations." Her heart fluttered. Had she done it? "You have passed this test. You will be accepted by the Stormcatcher." She HAD done it! She floated into the air, eager for her exaltation.
She would be near the Stormcatcher, she would have her darkness, and she would have her vengeance.
