Years ago, I bought two dragons to complete Ceziate's Breed the Rainbow Challenge. Then I went on a (several) year hiatus from FR. Now I'm back and I'm super excited to continue! Or.... start. Anyway. I'm doing the Breed the Rainbow challenge my way, so here's how it goes:
Setup and Guidelines
-Choose which end of the rainbow you want to start at. For Light Side challenges, start with founders that have Maize in their breeding range. For Dark Side challenges, start with founders that have Pearl in their breeding range.
-The color must be visible to be that generation's heir.
-The heir becomes the founder of the next generation. Buy a mate from the AH or pick up a mate in a trading thread to continue breeding for the next color.
-All hatchlings that are not the heir must be exalted/sold/traded away.
-Parents can be used to breed multiple heirs if the range is large enough, however the heirs must be bred in order. (eg, Maize is hatched before White, Pearl is hatched before Rose).
-Parents are exalted/sold/traded away once the heir is hatched.
-You can only trade or purchase a new mate using the money from your money pot.
I recommend new dragons, as exalting the babies/parents is part of how you build your money pot for this.
Start
Generation 1-
Breed your founders until you have a hatchling that shows your starting color. (Maize for the Light Side challenge, Pearl for the Dark Side Challenge)
The color must be visible (no basic tertiary).
Generation 2-
Heir is bred to a newly acquired dragon. These become your generation 2 founders. The Generation 2 heir is the next color on the color wheel. (White for the Light Side challenge, Rose for the Dark Side Challenge)
Generation 3- etc.... continue until you've reached the other end of the rainbow.
Hard Mode
-Starting pot is 15kt to purchase your founders.
-Start with plentiful dragons, end with rare dragons.
-Parents can only be used for one generation.
Extreme Mode
-Starting pot is 12kt to purchase your founders.
-Start with plentiful non-gened dragons.
-Parents can only be used for one generation.
-Breed at least one heir of every species.
-Breed at least one heir with every gene.
Excruciating Mode
-All the rules of Extreme Mode plus:
-Heirs must be doubles/triples
Gene Mode
-All the rules of the mode you decide on plus:
-Start with non-gened dragons.
-Do not buy gene scrolls.
-Breed at least one heir with every gene throughout the challenge.
Scoring
-5 for using non-money pot funds for mates
-1 for nests without heirs
+1 for every 1kt at the end of the challenge
+2 for non-heir doubles
+3 for non-heir triples
+5 for 5 egg nests
+3 for heir
+5 for additional heirs in the same nest
+1 for plentiful heirs (Tundra, Guardian, Mirror, Fae)
+2 for common heirs (Pearlcatcher, Ridgeback, Snapper, Spiral, Gaoler, Banescale)
+3 for uncommon heirs (Skydancer, Bogsneak)
+4 for limited heirs (Imperial, Nocturne)
+5 for rare heirs (Coatl, Wildclaw)
+5 for heir doubles
+10 for heir triples
For Gene Mode:
+1 for every common gene
+2 for every uncommon gene
+3 for every limited gene
+4 for every rare gene
