Alina had offered the hatchling some of the flowers she'd found, and carried the little one back to the edge of the forest, where a worried looking pearlcatcher and spiral were calling out a name. Alina had left the hatchling there as pair saw her, and flew back through the woods and toward the clan in Starwood Strand. She might not have brought back all of the things she found, but she brought something far more important back where they belonged. She was most likely drawn in for the first time by an encounter with Olcinia, an artificial dragon made of metal and gems who is occasionally sent out to run errands such as trading. I imagine such a creature would have certainly caught her attention as a jewelcrafter, and Anatolia may have followed Olcinia back to the clan - the artificial dragon isn't intelligent/aware enough to be bothered by a stranger following her. The Sea of a Thousand Currents wasn't even a sparkling smudge on the Soiree's horizon, and a part of her missed that place--the place that had been her home since hatching. But, still, there was something deep inside her that felt fully at peace beneath the sparkling sunlight, tucked between towering sunflowers. Her friends Apollo and Galileo were confused when her family asked them if she knew where she was studying, so they set out to ask that wealthy art benefactor she had told them about, but when they found him they discovered that he had no idea who she was, thus confirming it was all lies. Kleio came up with the perfect venue, her favourite lake where sunflowers were already blooming. Apollo contributed the idea that they should make secluded sunflower clearings around the lake, patches of sunflowers with stalks both tall and short, cocooning the visitors and offering a bit of privacy. Galileo the Art Historian was busy with his usual work, and other assigned tasks as a Goblin, but he still made sure to offer a helping claw during his free time. The gene has a good way of instantly brightening up a dragon since it leaves so much white, and the splotches give a very sweet and soft look. I love the look of peach piebald, since it makes me think of sunny clouds which fits in with the light aesthetic I want to maintain! [b]Constellation:[/b] Again, another gene to reflect my personal taste. I’m a bit of a constellation fiend and I specifically love pairing treasure primaries with gem genes so had to scry her with my personal favorites! I find with constellation it’s a bit more on the dull or muted side but looks great paired with the sunny primary! I chose constellation for the sparkley look you get from the wings, just like her wings are made of sparkling, swirling light! [b]Runes:[/b] Finally, I’d give her runes. I was struggling a bit at first to find a tert that I’d personally love a lot and ended up going with runes! It’s a bit subtle on the already warm colors but I find it makes me think of some ancient inscribed artifact which again reflects light flight! I decided that she would probably join the Lair Expansion Force and when I scried, I aimed for a lantern effect as a large part of my lair is underground. Her strong hind legs and upright posture allow her to take off from a standing start, which is invaluable when she's carrying materials to and from her building sites. She is capable of hauling great loads without injury and it also has the benefit of refracting light, allowing her to see more easily in the darkness. [br][br] Her [b]Bee[/b] wings allow her to lift heavy weights, much like honeybees. They are also praised for their beauty throughout the lair. Her colleagues appreciate it when she brings them the stone they need to repair the outer areas of the ruins.[/size][/columns] [br] Her [b]Contour[/b] gives her that little flash of something special. Many male dragons find that she catches their eye as she flies past in the course of her duties. She could have her pick of suitors, but she's currently dedicated to making sure everyone has somewhere warm and dry to sleep. It’s from a language I’m making, and roughly means “Fallen light of her kingdom.” It also describes her as sensible, but that doesn’t translate as well to English. Here’s a breakdown of what each part means:[/i] Lailki=La-il-ki. La means point-full and sensible. Il means light or glow Ki means fall or fallen. Thus Ladiaki means something along the lines of “fallen sensible/point-full light. Ko literally just means “of” Roseito= Ro-sei-to Ro means space or territory. Sei means land. To shows ownership. It’s this language’s equivalent of ‘s. Thus Roseito means something along the lines of “their owned land” [i]It fits with the lore I’m starting to develop for her, and Roseito sounds cool even if you don’t know what it means. This would be especially useful since my clan is a Lightning clan, so there's plenty of desert around to unearth rare stones and artifacts from! She studies and tinkers with what she finds to build a collection of knowledge about past societies, and how they may impact the present. Gem Thief provides her with plenty of pockets to hold her excavation tools and the samples she finds. She can use this to carry everything she needs to and from the sites she's studying. The robe portions provide her some cover against the elements. The Brass Steampunk Goggles protect her eyes from the sand of the desert. They also make her look smart and adventurous, referencing her knowledge and her passion. The Time-Turner's Sandglass is an artifact she found while working. She uses it to keep increments of time more precise than the positioning of the sun alone. This can be especially helpful while working, or when discovering caves or ancient ruins when knowing how long you've been exploring can be important. It also ties into the hourglass theme that inspired her genes. The Brass Steampunk Tail Bauble represents a useful item she tinkered with and created. The lantern on the end allows her to bring light with her everywhere, which means she can work even when conditions aren't ideal. The Solar Blades not only serve as a direct connection to her light element, but they tie into her timekeeping theme as well. The blades reminded me of a sundial, so that is how Zenithera would use them. The blades can be used to keep track of longer spans of time than the hourglass, but using both together means she can keep perfect track of time while out in the field. A few other guardians, a family of pearlcatchers with their three hatchlings, an elderly tundra with her mirror partner. The crowd was small for now, but diverse, and eager to take part in the coming ceremonies. Glinduath's guards had returned, and brought with them a few more of their members, who now stood between the princess and her subjects as a living wall. The people mingled, chatted excitedly, and shared fruits and drinks which they had brought from their homes. Arien watched them and smiled. "My mother used to bring me seaberries from the edge of the realm, when I was a hatchling," she reminisced. Glinduath started and glanced at her, unsure of how to respond. [item=seaberry] "I remember, when we went to the coronation of my great aunt. I was so small I couldn't see the Pedestal, even sitting on my mother's shoulders," Arien continued. The beetle from before crawled back in front of her on the white marble. "I don't remember much of the ceremony," she said, speaking more to the beetle than to her captain. Glinduath listened silently. "She told me that my aunt was shining, a beacon, and shimmered like the petals of a morning flower," Arien tapped her claw in front of the beetle. The insect inspected her claw again, and this time crawled up onto her hand. "Mother said she was breathtaking. Of course, I don't remember," she chuckled. "All I remember is that while we waited for the ceremony to begin, she surprised me with the biggest, sweetest seaberries I had ever seen," Arien lifted the beetle up to her face. The little insect turned its head to the side, as if trying to understand her story. "That has to be my happiest memory." The beetle buzzed its wings - the sound brought with it a flood of other memories, ones that she could never share, but were just as dear to her. "Well, one of them anyway." "They say those are good luck." Arien blinked up at Glinduath - she had almost forgotten he was there. "Pardon?" "Those," he repeated, nodding his head towards the insect. "They're called feathered beetles." [item=feathered beetle] Arien stared at the guardian for a moment, then laughed. The beetle, startled by her sudden movement, flew away from her claw, only to return a moment later and land on her arm. "Why Glinduath, I hadn't taken you for an insect hobbyist." Glinduath huffed air through his snout. "Hardly, princess. But these beetles have many myths surrounding them," he explained, watching the creature clean its antennae calmly on the bogsneak's arm. "They are nearly impossible to catch but it is said that if you befriend one, it will guard your soul while you sleep. Some even say," he rumbled, "that they are the reborn souls of our loved ones." Arien looked down at the beetle again. The insect looked up at her, almost intelligently, and twitched its wings. "How do you know so much about this? I have never heard these stories." Glinduath sighed, looking back out to the crowd continuing to gather in the fields. "You forget princess, I am much older than you. I have seen the reign of many queens wax and wane, encountered countless travelers, traders, and provocateurs. I have befriended many dragons, and I remember many stories which have since been lost." He glanced over at Arien, who stared back with wonder in her young eyes. Glinduath coughed. "And ah, my wife - she likes to tell stories to the hatchlings." Arien giggled. She coaxed the beetle onto her claw again and lifted it to the flower she wore by her crown. The insect tapped the flower with its antennae, then crawled off of her claw to rest on one of her head fins. It nuzzled the petals of the blue rose, content with its new perch beside the fragrant bloom. "It seems to like you," Glinduath observed. "Perhaps it will stay with you through the ceremony." The beetle buzzed near Arien's ear, and her heart filled with warmth at the familiar sound. She looked out over the crowds, watching her subjects. Hatchlings chased each other across the grass, while mothers and fathers chatted. Some were chopping fruit and feeding their children colorful berries. One had even brought a cart with some cheeses and meats laid across it and was sharing the bounty with his neighbors. "I hope so," she replied, smiling. "I would like that." ----- [item=feathered beetle] Feathered Beetles are supposed to be good luck in her culture. As a young soon to be queen, having a friend to stay with her through the ceremony is comforting. It helps that the sound of the little insect's wings remind her of Calamen. Legends also tell that this insect is a reincarnated soul, which makes her feel as though her mother might be there to be with her through the coronation. Also, the little beetle is pretty charismatic and, secretly, Arien thinks most bugs are adorable. She is going to name it Linya, which is a play on words that roughly means "little song" but also sounds like the root word that describes things that move smoothly/gracefully. Not fully understanding Murmur's reasons, Zarie eventually tried following Murmur after it stole a particularly sentimental spool of ribbon, and discovered Murmur's nest on the outskirts of Clan territory. From that point on, Zarie has made sure to put aside a variety of fine thread strands, shredded ribbon, and fabric scraps for Murmur, and Murmur has come to trust her and recognize her generosity.The two now work together and provide for each other, with Zarie helping Murmur build its nest every year, and Murmur giving Zarie a hand with projects as well as providing much-appreciated company through long nights of weaving and research. Zarie draws inspiration from Murmur as well, finding it incredible that any creature could have such an innate depth of knowledge of the craft she's spent her life perfecting. [/quote]

My vision for Alina is that she tries out going gathering, and while following our mapped out areas she finds paths of her own to take through dark spaces and woods. This ends up in her finding a young, scared pearlcatcher hatchling who'd wandered too far from the Sunbeam Ruins, straight into the Tangled Wood. Alina had offered the hatchling some of the flowers she'd found, and carried the little one back to the edge of the forest, where a worried looking pearlcatcher and spiral were calling out a name. Alina had left the hatchling there as pair saw her, and flew back through the woods and toward the clan in Starwood Strand. She might not have brought back all of the things she found, but she brought something far more important back where they belonged. This ends up happening more than once, with hatchlings, adult dragons and other creatures alike, and she takes joy in guiding them to safety. She doesn't need thanks, the love of Cling the Glam Nudibranch is more than enough to keep her happy. She isn't super social with the clan, but she enjoys talking with them every now and then, and cheering others up when they feel down. Sometimes, one of the dragons or creatures she aids end up wanting to go to the clan, and join us as new members. Those tend to be the ones who care for Alina the most. So, in the end, her role is to gather supplies, guide the lost and afraid, find new clan members, and inspire hope. None of these things are [i]required[/i] of her besides the gathering, but nonetheless it is what she is known for. However, the stones available in the area Anatolia lives are rather limited in diversity, so trade is still necessary to obtain more exotic jewels than what Leta can dig up. She was most likely drawn in for the first time by an encounter with Olcinia, an artificial dragon made of metal and gems who is occasionally sent out to run errands such as trading. I imagine such a creature would have certainly caught her attention as a jewelcrafter, and Anatolia may have followed Olcinia back to the clan - the artificial dragon isn't intelligent/aware enough to be bothered by a stranger following her. [/columns] [columns] Upon meeting the clan, she would have been welcomed into the temple just like any other non-hostile dragon. She would probably build up a good working relationship and solid friendship with Beneficentia, the clan's tailor/seamstress. Having a safe and well-trafficked area with a thriving market to base her craft in and a recognized name in fashion to associate with would definitely be a good reason for her to stick around.
