TOPIC | [Pinkerlocke] The Endless Mansion
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ... 14 15
In the Tangled Wood, just before the sharp elevation change into the Sunbeam Ruins, there's a steep hill that towers above the trees. Stairs, broken with age and split by small plants, wind up the front of the hill. Although the back of the hill is heavily wooded, the side of the hill with the stairs has nothing growing on it, littered with old and dead grass and dead shrubs. The local dragons tend to avoid it, nervous of the barren hill. At the top of the hill, the stairs level out into a balcony with carved stone railings, looking out over the forest. The balcony is shaded by a looming house, older than dragonkind and yet still somehow preserved from the ravages of time. Entry to the house is barred by a simple but unbreakable lock on the front door. It's at the base of the hill that this story begins. One morning, four eggs were left at the foot of the stairs by four different dragons who were traveling through the region. As the sun grew high in the sky, the eggs hatched, one at a time, and the hatchlings felt a tug in their chests to climb the winding stairs to the old mansion. By sunset, the hatchlings had reached the top of the stairs on their little legs, and they craned their necks to look up at the ominous house. As the sun went down beyond the trees, the door creaked open. These 4 were hatched today, May 8th. The Pinkerlocke (and associated exploration of the house) will begin when they grow up. For now, they sleep in the mansion's foyer.

[item=jar of slime] At sunrise, the door from the foyer to the rest of the house clicked quietly open. The four young dragons slumbered on peacefully in a pile in the foyer. Eventually, Ironfury stirred, the bones and metal pieces he'd found in the foyer and draped across his body clattering. Seeing the door into the house was ajar, he quickly poked the others awake. "Hmm?" muttered Altair, and pulled his moth-eaten scarf over his eyes with a claw. Joanna, however, was more enthusiastic, poking her nose through the crack of the door to see into the house, a move Ironfury hadn't been bold enough to take. She promptly sneezed and shouldered her way through the doors. The room was large. A grand chandelier hung low on long chains from the high ceiling, light from the tall windows in the front of the house coming in despite the dust and refracting through the crystals. Five doors were set into the walls, each with their own carved decorations, and a staircase swept up to a balcony with three more. Furnishings were sparse, but there was a huge carpet spread across most of the floor. Joanna's claws hooked in it as she entered the room on quiet feet. The others followed close behind her, looking up at the high ceiling. Stoic was the first to speak. "Do you think we can really live here? All those doors scare me. There could be anything behind them. Especially-" They pointed a claw towards the door closest to the base of the stairs, which was carved with a misshapen deer. "That just feels wrong." "We need to clean this up," said Altair. "We could roll up the rug and wedge it in front of that door." "I'd rather go through it." Joanna pranced over to the door, ignoring Stoic's shudder, and tried to shove it open. It didn't budge. She huffed and turned back to the group. "Later, then." "We can block it off now, and [i]you[/i] can go through it later," said Stoic. It took a lot of maneuvering and several dusty wingflaps, but the four young dragons managed to roll up the rug and wedge it in a giant roll against the deer door. The floor underneath where the rug had been somehow gleamed with polished wood, despite being incalculably old. "I think we should cut up the rug and make a nest," said Ironfury, perched on the dusty chandelier and making it swing with his little weight. The others muttered in approval, and Altair looked at the dusty windows, which the now-afternoon sun streamed through. "And we should clean the windows somehow..." [item=onyx craylet] In the shady back of the big room, the door with the scorpion crest on it clicked open. Joanna, ever curious, wandered over. Inside the door was a dark hallway. Jonna called over Ironfury, who had found a glowing stone in the foyer and affixed it to his tail. He held the light high into the hallway. The hall was dusty and dim, with no windows, and the floor was lined with a long red carpet. Empty candelabras were placed at regular intervals along the walls, and frames where paintings were once hung littered the rest of the walls. Two doors were set into the left wall, and there was a door on the far end. [item=malachite agate] It had taken a long time, but Altair had finally figured out how to clean the big windows in the main room. Now the sun shone bright through them, and the crystal chandelier, dusted by Ironfury with a scrap of carpet, glimmered in the sunlight. The four dragons had spent the better part of the previous day lugging the huge rug out onto the balcony and the rest of the day ripping it into shreds. Now it was a big pile of scraps in the middle of the floor, almost big enough for all of them to pile up on top of each other and sleep. The rug in the hallway was rolled up, preparing to be shredded next. [columns]The de facto leader of the group. The force that pulls Joanna to the house is the strongest of everyone. She wants to explore, no matter what kind of danger it puts her in. Even if the others weren't there, she'd go into the next rooms as soon as she could. Does she love the house? That's a question for the house, really. The craving doesn't really come from within. The amount of dust in the mansion is staggering, and Altair just wants somewhere to live. He intends to fix up every room they might be living in, no matter how much effort this might take. Ironfury is always right behind Joanna, supporting her in whatever her endeavors are.
The de facto leader of the group.
Her favorite artifact is paintings.

A clean freak. The amount of dust in the mansion is staggering, and Altair just wants somewhere to live. He intends to fix up every room they might be living in, no matter how much effort this might take. Light is key, in his opinion.
His favorite artifact is pretty stones.
Unwaveringly loyal to the others. Ironfury is always right behind Joanna, supporting her in whatever her endeavors are. He helps with everything, and he's supportive to whatever stupid plans the rest of the mansion's dragons want to embark on.
His favorite artifact is stuffed animals.

The only rational one of the group, in their opinion. Stoic has a healthy fear of the unknown, which very much clashes with the draw in their belly to the house. Although they will go out if they must, they prefer to stay in the big room, at home base. They worry about the others charging into dangerous unknowns.
Their favorite artifact is books.
