Lore. A Traveler shares his knowledge.

Over the past week the clan had managed to dig further into the cliff face, carving out a new room into the back of the Hollow. It had become primarily food storage, but served a few other purposes.
Loretta and Naal were leaned over the large stone table they had managed to cobble together, watching with rapt attention as Vincente worked with the ingredients at his disposal. Fire flower leaves were broiled, amaranth seeds were crushed, and miscellaneous herbs were steeped.
The Tundra brought together the final product, tasting it first himself, letting out a content sigh with a small smile at his lips.
"Would you two like to try it?"
Both of the younger dragons nodded enthusiastically, each taking a turn to drink from the stone bowl.
"Oh wow, it's spicier than most of the ingredients out here."
"That's what you'll find when you search the Ashwall Wastes!" The Tundra chuckled, turning back to his satchel to sift through a few more of his dried ingredients. "I've got quite a collection yet, I could try a few of the other recipes as well?"
"Oh! What's that one?" Loretta jumped up, pointing out a particularly colorful bundle of flowers.
"Stellaria Media. It's quite delicious on its own. Though, I've heard that it can be a wonderful base ingredient for a stock, even if I've yet to try it myself. We could attempt a stew?"
With both the Nocturne and the Coatl eager to help out and enthusiastic about his cooking, Vincente didn't need much more convincing than that.
This is probably just lime juice. Go on, drink it. Nah, don't worry about it.

Naal, Riln, and Vincente head into Wilderness.

They were a power duo, really. A force to be reckoned with: the strength of Wind and the scorch of Fire.
Naal really was impressed- they had both come quite far in their combat abilities. Most every foe went down near effortlessly, and he had little doubt that they could have forged ahead even without his additional help. It almost tempted him to watch from afar, but he wasn't sure the forests would ever reach that level of comfort for him.
Not when he could sense the history of the ground beneath him.
"What was it that we needed to head so far out for, Vincente?"
"Lume Daffodil. Loretta was saying that Prosperity spotted it by the lake. She mentioned a few fruit trees, as well. And, well, Glidra's still keeping Loretta inside the Hollow for at least another full day."
They soon reached the shoreside, gathering to rest while Vincente collected what was needed.
"It's almost starting to get too easy out here in the southern forest, don't you think?" Riln stretched out, relaxing by the shore.
But Naal couldn't agree.
Whenever he set foot in the scorched forest, all he could see were centaurs.

Riln and Glidra were back to back, striking out at the golem cats surrounding them. Naal had long since taken to the air, firing down barrage after barrage of white mana into the fray.
"They won't let up! We've got to head back!"
Naal opened his mouth to respond before choking, a bolt of Ice magic striking him squarely in the gut. He growled, spinning and firing off a direct blast into the face of the attacker.
The group retreated back to the edge of the scarred landscape, slowing when they had reached calmer air and cleaner ground. Naal finally collected himself enough to make a landing.
Glidra looked between her children, before turning her head to the ground.
"..Perhaps we are not quite prepared for longer expeditions into the scorched forests."
Riln voiced her agreement, though Naal remained silent, staring back into the charred woods behind them.

"You will absolutely not take her there. She is still recovering. And Riln-" Glidra spun on her daughter, "Your children could hatch at any moment now. You are to create positively zero situations in which there is risk for them to arrive without a mother. This is a simple, undifficult hunting mission. Have I made myself clear?"
Though Naal remained quiet, Riln bowed her head, "Yes, mother." She looked over to her nest, watching as her mate tucked each of the eggs into a warm bundle of new foliage and feathers. "..We'll be back before noon."
Riln flicked her tail in front of Naal's face, gathering his attention before heading for the Hollow's entrance. Loretta perked up, seeing that they were finally set to leave, joining them for the hunt.
---
Loretta snapped her jaws down onto the phytocat, dealing the final blow. She hefted her catch up into the air to show off, whipping her tail back and forth happily.
"I'm getting better at this!" The small Nocturne mumbled around a mouthful of stiff fur. Eck, that might be stuck in her teeth, now.
"You're also getting kind of scarier, Lor" Naal chuckled at her, trotting over to help gather the spoils, "just how sharp are your teeth?"
"My fangs are perfectly-" but the young dragon suddenly cut herself off, dropping her catch and spinning around towards where they'd came. "They're hatching. They're hatching but something's wrong."
Riln roared, leaping upwards into the skies without hesitation. Naal looked between where his sister had flown and where his youngest sister still was, panic on his features, "What's happening?? Was there an attack? We took care of the centaurs-"
"It's. I don't know what's wrong, but they're- they're dying, Naal."
And both dragons followed their sister into the sky.
---
Riln landed hard into the gravel outside the Hollow, barreling forward and through the rocky crevice towards her nest. Her mate appeared to be panicking, fretting around the small clutch with Prism nearby, swishing his tail and muttering.
"Shade was so much better with the Nature of magic.. I don't know how to-" he abruptly cut off upon noticing the Guardian entering the cavern.
"What's wrong with them?"
"I'm not certain, I.. I believe the strong flux of so many magics from the aspects of Arcane, Plague, Wind, and Ice harmed the development-" he cut himself off again, spinning toward the nest, eyeing one egg in particular, "...no..."
The pain in his voice told her all she needed to know.
She turned on her eggs, gathering them in her arms and passing one to her mate. "We're going. We need to head west, somewhere further away from the boundaries."
The Tundra seemed to starkly shift from shaken to determined, clutching the egg running from the cavern, leaping to the skies with his mate.
She could feel the eggs growing colder in her grasp.
But nothing in her life had told her that giving up was the answer.
The eggs in her claws grew colder yet, but the egg in Vincente's seemed to grow warmer, livelier.
"I think it's hatching!"
"Don't you dare stop flying until we've hit the far shore!"
---
By sunset, the two dragons had landed at the farthest edge of the Warden's domain. And though one held but two cold stones, both held a healthy baby Guardian in their arms.

"-We weren't there for long, but it's something we're working on, now that the centaurs are gone," Naal hummed, reaching into his satchel and pulling out a large horn, resting it at the base of the cairn, "We're all pretty good fighters, now. You should see Riln's claws! She cleaved that one right off when it charged her. And Lor is pretty scary now, too."
The Coatl looks up to the sky, watching as the sun's rays filter through the thin cloud layer at the horizon. It will be spring soon, but for now the air was still cold in the waning light.
He's not quite sure why he feels so comforted by the hillside; perhaps it's the connection he has always felt with the land and earth and the stories he has heard it tell. He'd never thought to consider whether the ground could hear him back. But if his father was with the land, then just maybe he could hear him, too.
"..You're a grandpa, y'know that? Roen's adorable, looks a lot like Riln. ...he's still got some of you on him, too." He snickered quietly, poking at one of the newly-planted purple blooms at the base of the tree, "your mask, but bright red."
The dragon yawned, stretching out his forequarters and pulling himself to his feet as twilight settled across the sky.
"..Goodnight, dad. I hope we've made you proud."

Vincente hefted the two heavy satchels off his shoulders, a hearty thump and a small plume of soot following in their wake as he plopped them onto the ground outside the Hollow. The Tundra pulled out a small clawful of black material, which only further stained his already thoroughly coated leg fur.
"What're those? I thought we were cooking again- That doesn't look like something I'd want to eat.." Loretta swished her tail in annoyance, eyeing the the sooty rocks warily.
"You asked how I can cook so much without overusing my magic- this is how," The Tundra smirks, placing the handful into the circle of normal rocks that he had tasked her with making. He holds up a single stone between his claws, "This," He lets out a small puff of Fire from his jaws, catching the stone alight, "-Is charcoal!"
The older dragon tosses the piece into the pile with the others, the Nocturne scurrying up to the edge of the circle to watch as the Fire slowly spreads throughout.
"It burns slowly but strongly, and we have a lot of it nearby! It's what's left behind after wood has been burned."
The small Guardian nearby wriggled his way out of his mother's grasp, running up to his father's side and watching the flames in fascination.
"What are you, a Wind dragon or a Fire dragon?" His father chuckled, draping his wing over the child. "Loretta, grab the sticks and broadleaves I asked you to grab, and we'll have a meal yet."
Loretta leapt into action, bolting back into the Hollow to retrieve the materials.
Food waits for no dragon.
Coal is essential for cooking fires and cauldrons; in its raw form, it can sustain embers for up to three days.

"-No! We, we don't have to- it's a little too dangerous, and Roen is just barely old enough to walk about, yeah?" Naal awkwardly laughed, nervously eyeing the treeline into the much more wooded areas, "Let's stick to the woods for now."
Riln's brow furrowed in concern, but she dropped the subject. Naal had been sticking rather close to the Hollow since their move, and was far less adventurous than he once was. Though he took Loretta out with him frequently to explore, it was always to places that he had already visited, and never once to the north.
Though Vincente looked back to the burned trees forlornly, having hoped to snag a few more bags of charcoal, they would be headed into greener forests today. Perhaps she should confront Naal about this sooner rather than later.

The Coatl eyed the ground, but gave a small smile. It wasn't like her brother to be this closed off, this against adventure and adversity. But he had known their father best.
"I.. the ground. I can see it in the ground, Riln. Every time we go into that forest I see it again and again."
She nuzzled against her brother's head, which seemed to comfort him. She had seen how he'd approached it the last time. "You can fight from the air. You're a ranged attacker, and you can spot enemies for us. Just take it one step at a time. We've got your back. I just want to see you being you, again."
The other finally looked up to her, looking pained but more optimistic. It'd been so long since she had seen that look upon his face. "..Together."

Lore. And a lively hollow to call home.
[rule]
Loretta had continued her mission to "prettify" the Hollow. Her onslaught had begun with the walls- small, iridescent shells were wedged into any crack and crevice that she could find.
The next addition was a tad more.. enthusiastic. Glidra herself had been sorting supplies in the back cove later in the evening when she heard a startled yelp from the main enclave, followed by shouting. Upon coming to see what all the commotion was about, she encountered Loretta and her sister jumping about the Hollow with a swarm of frost whisperers. A low-level glow has permeated the glimmering walls ever since.
She suspect the next choice had some encouragement from Vincente. A crisp, dark ivy worked its way across the sides of the Hollow, securing the shimmering shells into place. She most definitely caught Vincente snacking once or twice.
Today was only the most recent of her efforts. She returned that afternoon to find her hatchling (now an adult dragon, she had to remind herself) weaving branches of coral into the ivy surrounding the inner entrance of the Hollow. She could only assume that she had been finding them alongside her growing collection of shells.
"That's a lovely addition, my child. You have made our rock quite the home."
The Nocturne beamed with pride, plucking a few small trinkets from a nearby pile of knick-knacks and hanging them from the coral.
"The walls are going to run out of space, soon- maybe next I should do something outside!"
Oh dear.
Some dragons collect dried pieces of this coral for lair decorations.
