I don't know what had awoken me that sunny morning, but in that moment I'd realized quickly that I had to reach the surface. My surroundings, when I had eventually scrabbled my way out of a shallowly buried nest, were green and verdant for as far as my wide little eyes could see. I vividly remember watching in mild concern as the unfamiliar ice melted as I stood by. Unaware of how ice worked, I thought it seemed... alive, rivulets of meltwater trailing from defrosting leaves. The sunlight beaming down on me from gaps in the green canopy gave me some confidence as I waited. I lay down, deciding to watch for something bigger to happen. I was all alone in this place, and instinct told me to stay put. Gradually, the ice had thawed further, the ground wet where it once was. I remember hearing squeaks then, there under the dirt. I would have helped if the unknown creature took too long, but for a bit I continued to watch carefully. The thing that came out didn't need my help anyway. The first glimpse I ever saw of them was a purple snout. When their head next came up from the ground, I squawked in surprise. Their eyes were white, pale like the ice. Again, I felt a strong reaction I didn't understand in that moment. I kept my distance as they quite easily freed themselves from the underground and unfolded a pair of bright orange wings. They were like me, a dragon, with two legs and two wings, but something was different. At least I wasn't alone anymore. We wound up watching each other carefully for a little while but, when no one came to fetch either me or the other hatchling, we decided seemingly at the same moment to duck into the underbrush around us. With no trace remaining of the frost that had coated the ground, it was as if someone had simply been digging in the clearing. With no parent to guide us, we soon learned to work together to scavenge and hunt small critters. We even had to learn what was and wasn't food. I didn't like the taste of berries, and leaves were out of the question. The green forest (the Viridian Labyrinth, I knew somehow) was bountiful but dangerous, so we kept low to the ground. Once our wings had grown big enough for flight we'd dare more often to venture out of the low vegetation, but we weren't ready to fight for our daily grub. We eventually found names for ourselves, at least. They chose Ebhaal. They didn't tell me why except for four quiet words. "It just feels true". I, Bunefohl, like to keep records of my life. Scratching runes into stone, fashioning paper from the plentiful bark around us. I don't know what compelled me to choose my name, but I do know it is my quest as a dragon of Light to accrue great knowledge. I'll find out in time, it's my calling. Ebhaal doesn't talk much even now, but they are very smart. They spend a lot of time securing our sleeping sites, so that predators don't find us. I don't know what their name might mean, but have a suspicion that they do. I must admit I have knowledge with me that I do not remember gaining by my own actions, myself. Now in our adolescence, we are growing into thicker scales. Our wings can carry us farther than ever before, and our claws have become sharp. Soon, we will test ourselves in battle for the first time.
Prologue:

Rising up from the frozen ashes

The first thing I remember was the thrill of digging out. I don't know what had awoken me that sunny morning, but in that moment I'd realized quickly that I had to reach the surface. My surroundings, when I had eventually scrabbled my way out of a shallowly buried nest, were green and verdant for as far as my wide little eyes could see.

Almost immediately next to me, I recall spotting a faint glimmer of something unknown. The shine had instantly caught my attention.

Water, I remember seeing, but it was all wrong. Frozen. I don't know why it made me react that way but I had quickly backed off. The ground before me was still cold, the frost rising up all the way to the bark of what I somehow knew to be a 'tree', which sprouted from the soil there.

They were like me, a dragon, with two legs and two wings, but something was different.

dragon?age=0&body=174&bodygene=0&breed=18&element=6&eyetype=0&gender=1&tert=106&tertgene=0&winggene=0&wings=47&auth=1f3dcd20ce93207fa0ef20a3341443358d92fc84&dummyext=prev.png

I'd called to them, knowing not what else to do with the situation, and they had thankfully responded in kind, tolerating my presence.

I'm sure many of you know what the drill is. This is my first nuzlocke, but I'm determined not to chicken out. I've stuffed my entire lair worth of permadragons into my HibDen, and won't have mercy on any but the most valuable nuzlocke dragons. The base set of rules:

If a dragon is knocked out in the Coliseum, it dies. Exalt and write about it.
I can battle as much as I want in the Coliseum, but every fight is at my own risk. No refreshing, I must use the Flee button.
I cannot gather for food. I must use the Coliseum to feed these hungry mouths. (I will scavenge, and occasionally Forage to level up for those blasted Pink Mums, but all plant food I collect goes straight to the Vault.)
I can only purchase one dragon for every 3 dragons I get to level 25.
I cannot give a dragon a Primary gene until they hit level 10; A Secondary can be applied at 15; Tertiary at 20. I will not be using Scatterscrolls for this challenge.
For every Unhatched Egg I find in the Coliseum or through Scavenging, I may buy one breed change scroll.
When nesting: Flip a coin for each hatchling. If I get Tails, the hatchling dies. If Heads, they live and join the lair. Variation: Primals are exempt from the coin toss and always live, though they can of course die in other ways. (I may have a giveaway of the dragon if I manage to get a Primal, and then go and accidentally kill it)
My own additions:

I can use Pinkerton for a better chance at getting Ambush or Berserker stones.
I can visit Crim once a day, and if I can't do any trades with the first five offers I get, that's too bad.
I cannot purchase Unhatched Eggs.
My two nuzlocke progenitors can only start nesting after they have hatched their first found egg.
I can only Scavenge OUTSIDE of the Nature Flight territory if I explicitly write that an adult member of the clan is journeying out to another Flight. This dragon will be considered absent from the clan for a number of days and cannot participate in the Coliseum, receive genes/change familiars or have any direct interaction with dragons who have stayed home. Reasons for writing journeys into the story: a Guardian dragon embarks upon The Search; a Wind dragon feels wanderlust. One exception: I can Scavenge for holiday currency during any Flight holiday, though I must write about dragons of the clan sensing the shift of corresponding elemental might inherent with the event.
Personality traits: every dragon gets two random traits while they are a hatchling, they receive +1 when they are grown. Traits cannot conflict on the same dragon, but negative/positive traits can cancel each other out if the conflicting dragons are working together on a team.
If I get rare loot, I must subject every rare drop to a random number draw at the end of the day. Numbers 1-8 mean I get to keep the item. Numbers 9-10 mean the item is stolen from the clan in the night. I will pull a random user from the giveaways pinglist and send the lost item to them. Gene scrolls, chests and Unhatched Eggs obtained from the Coliseum are exempt. Apparel, familiars and battlestones are fair game. (Watch and laugh as I lose my first Eliminate, because I just had to be a clown and make this a rule)
I must at least try to vary how I stat the dragons I battle with, to keep battles interesting. No Tinctures unless I get one as a Coliseum drop or gift.
I cannot accept gifts until I have at least one level 5 dragon.
I can hoardsell only stacks of 99 items, so building Treasure is a slow crawl.
Level 25 dragons are safe from dying in the Coliseum. I can continue to use them, though it is recommended to start on a new team once the current one maxes out.
In this story, Banescales (and those who live by their side for long enough) are haunted by a dormant Fourth Age curse. The magic disease only rarely strikes but it hits the strongest of all, gradually freezing the afflicted dragon in place for good. If it hits the numbers 1, 25, 50, 75 or 100, I must draw another number to determine which level 25, if I have multiple, falls ill. Instead of exalting such a valuable dragon with a story, I will hold an auction and the earnings will go to my Vault (removed from the nuzlocke) for later use. The story will say the dragon died. I know these odds are low, only 5 out of 100, but still... Higher chance than scattersighting a dragon into a Primal... :') [s]no i'm totally not still salty about this whatever do you mean[/s] Personality system: Debuffs: - Thieving/manipulative/greedy dragons, while in the active party, will make it one count more likely that valuable Coliseum drops are stolen at the end of the day. A level 20 thieving, manipulative or greedy dragon will no longer cause this debuff, replacing it with the trait Grateful. Effect stacks. - Cocky/proud/headstrong dragons are less likely to flee from battles. While they are in the Coliseum, I must push myself to take greater risk. Effect does not stack if multiple or all dragons in the team have one of these traits. A level 20 dragon will lose the debuff, replacing it with Wisened-up. Cancels out thieving/manipulative/greedy but does not stack above the neutral 1-8 9-10 rule so there is always a 20% risk of losing items. Reasonable/cautious/cowardly dragons will not take too many risks in battle. Will cancel out the reckless nature of a cocky/proud/headstrong dragon on the team. Does not have any effect if battle risk is not hightened. Nuzlocke rules
wQS70u9.png

So, a nuzlocke. I'm sure many of you know what the drill is. This is my first nuzlocke, but I'm determined not to chicken out. I've stuffed my entire lair worth of permadragons into my HibDen, and won't have mercy on any but the most valuable nuzlocke dragons.

The base set of rules:
  1. If a dragon is knocked out in the Coliseum, it dies. Exalt and write about it.
  2. I can battle as much as I want in the Coliseum, but every fight is at my own risk. No refreshing, I must use the Flee button.
  3. I cannot gather for food. I must use the Coliseum to feed these hungry mouths. (I will scavenge, and occasionally Forage to level up for those blasted Pink Mums, but all plant food I collect goes straight to the Vault.)
  4. I can only purchase one dragon for every 3 dragons I get to level 25.
  5. I cannot give a dragon a Primary gene until they hit level 10; A Secondary can be applied at 15; Tertiary at 20. I will not be using Scatterscrolls for this challenge.
  6. For every Unhatched Egg I find in the Coliseum or through Scavenging, I may buy one breed change scroll.
  7. When nesting:
Flip a coin for each hatchling.

  1. I can use Pinkerton for a better chance at getting Ambush or Berserker stones.
  2. I can visit Crim once a day, and if I can't do any trades with the first five offers I get, that's too bad.
  3. I cannot purchase Unhatched Eggs.
  4. My two nuzlocke progenitors can only start nesting after they have hatched their first found egg.

  6. Personality traits: every dragon gets two random traits while they are a hatchling, they receive +1 when they are grown. Traits cannot conflict on the same dragon, but negative/positive traits can cancel each other out if the conflicting dragons are working together on a team.
  8. I must at least try to vary how I stat the dragons I battle with, to keep battles interesting. No Tinctures unless I get one as a Coliseum drop or gift.
  9. I cannot accept gifts until I have at least one level 5 dragon.
  10. I can hoardsell only stacks of 99 items, so building Treasure is a slow crawl.

There is no cure, one can only hope it doesn't awaken in them.

Permafrost Blight mechanic:
Every week I'll use a random number generator that goes from 1 up to 100.

:') no i'm totally not still salty about this whatever do you mean

Personality system:

Debuffs:
- Thieving/manipulative/greedy dragons, while in the active party, will make it one count more likely that valuable Coliseum drops are stolen at the end of the day.

Dragons cannot start with the Grateful and Wisened-up traits, and must earn them through hard work.

Buffs:
Watchful/night owl/hyper-aware dragons will, when in the active Coliseum party, lower the chance of items being stolen in the night.

No effect/for flavor, but determines how dragons might get along in the story:
  • Cheerful/upbeat/eager
  • Compassionate/nurturing/helpful
  • Gregarious/extroverted/charming
  • Intelligent/clever/brilliant
  • Creative/inspiring/imaginative
  • Cunning/sneaky/ambitious
  • Anxious/reluctant/asocial
  • Introverted/shy/loner
  • Naive/childish/curious
  • Secretive/quiet/mysterious
  • Arrogant/self-centered/snide
  • Downer/pessimistic/depressive
  • Sleepy/sluggish/lazy
  • Hyperactive/fired-up/restless

Quote:
THE WIN CONDITION:
- I must have six level 25 dragons of the following elements:
2 Light
2 Ice
2 Fire

(These dragons must all be Ancients)
