Uncharted Territory
This Pinkerlocke is no longer updating

Three young dragons attempt to create a new clan in the mysterious Arcane lands after getting separated from their families. However, they are unaware of the dangers posed to a small group of untrained dragons. Together they must each put their past behind them and learn how to survive in this new land.

Welcome to my pinkerlocke! I'm very excited to see what Pinkerton throws at me and to see how it affects the story. please don't kill my characters Pink

Without further ado, the rules:

Rules from here
Quote:

Basic rules:
 • A death in the coliseum = that dragon must be exalted. This is the most essential rule of a nuzlocke.
 • All loot obtained in the coliseum is irrelevant, as is the loot obtained from gathering.
 • There are no restrictions about applying apparel to your dragons. Do whatever makes sense to you. Same goes for familiars.
 • Ping or message me if you take the challenge ;p (you don't actually /have/ to but I'd love to see how it goes!)
 • And, most crucially, all nuzlocke activity corresponds with the loot you obtain daily from Pinkerton's plundered pile!
Optional sentimental rule:
If a dragon reaches level 25 it "retires". It can join the ranks of your main lair.

Drops of Fate:

Food: Coliseum time!
Plants: 10-20 matches
Insects: 20-30 matches
Seafood: 30-40 matches
Meat: 40-50 matches

Choose from one of these two rules:

Hardmode: You must select coliseum challengers in your lair using a random number generator. Then, select the coliseum arena that corresponds to the highest level dragon of that group (For a 'medium' mode, select the venue that is one tier down from that of highest level dragon). If your dragons level up while in an area, you can still stay there for the whole day. You can quit your battle streak at any time to regen health, and flee from battles if it is appropriate. Don't try do 50 matches in a row unless you want a wiped-out dragon!

OR

Easymode: Choose whichever team and venue you want and go for it. Running from battles, using health pots, and ending the battle streak is fine, as I explained above.

(These ranges can also be altered to suit your level of activity/personal preference.)

Materials and trinkets: Flex your creative muscles!

Note that there is currently a glitch in which Pinkerton mislabels materials as trinkets. If you obtain a "trinket" from Pinkerton, double check to make sure its not actually a material!

Materials: Do some writing for your nuzlocke. How does your new nuzlocke clan change and develop? What are your dragons like personality-wise? How do they get along? How do they die? Is there an antagonist in this nuzlocke, or are they merely struggling against the forces of nature? Write dragon bios! Make a blog, or a thread for your challenge in the creative forums! Write short stories or paragraphs, or add to one big one adventure!

Trinkets: Do some art for your nuzlocke! Digital or traditional, use whatever medium feels best for you. Draw deaths. Draw dragons. Draw humanized versions of your dragons (if that's your sort of thing). Draw familiars and dragons together. It doesn't have to be that good or elaborate. If you make a nuzlocke thread, post your art there.

Obviously, you might not have time in your day to do something creative. If that's the case, don't worry about it. This challenge is meant to be fun and heartwrenching, not a chore.

Rare drops: Wildcards

Familiars: Buy the cheapest dragon in the auction house of a specific breed. Use a random number generator (between 1-15) to determine which breed you will get! (Optionally: attach the familiar to the new dragon.)

1. Fae
2. Guardian
3. Mirror
4. Pearlcatcher
5. Ridgeback
6. Tundra
7. Spiral
8. Imperial
9. Snapper
10. Wildclaw
11. Nocturne
12. Coatl
13. Skydancer
14. Bogsneak
15. Gaoler

Apparel: Breed two of your dragons. The dragons you pick are up to you. You can also change one of the genes on a dragon, or use a scatterscroll if you are rich and crazy.

Note: You must flip a coin for each hatchling once they hatch. If tails, the dragon is dead and you must exalt it. This is in keeping with the origional Nuzlocke thread's rule, because I really like it.

Battle items: Uh-oh!!!

Flip a coin.
Heads = DEATH STREAK
Tails = Nothing happens

DEATH STREAK rules: Randomly select three dragons using a random number generator. Fight in the coliseum using the "food" rules 10 rounds consecutively (ie. you cannot leave that arena), quitting midway if a dragon dies. If you are using the easymode rules, switch to the hardmode rules for battlestones.

(Note that the 'death streak' needs to be tested for deadliness. It should be pretty deadly, but not totally impossible.) After testing, it seemed to work as intended! Survival depends on your willingness to be both lucky and cautious.

Starting out:
Using the method I detailed in the "familiar" possibility above, obtain a small number of dragons (I suggest 2 or 3). If they already have names, keep the name! If not, name them whatever you like. The challenge starts once all of the dragons, if they are hatchlings, grow into adulthood.

Alternatively, choose 2-3 existing dragons in your lair to participate. This has certain advantages (eliminates the need to wait for maturity and breeding cooldowns) but also some disadvantages (less random=less exciting).

You may want to "partition" your nuzlocke dragons away from your regular dragons so you don't get them mixed up.

Losing:
If your dragon count falls to zero you have a few options
1. Declare the challenge a "loss" and give up
2. Wait for Pinkerton to drop a familiar
3. Just say "welp" and buy another dragon from the AH without waiting for Pinkerton because you lack patience.

Extra Rules:
- When getting a new dragon, I am allowed to pick from the first page in the AH. This is because I will get more attached to a dragon with genes I like and because they will be potentially joining my main lair later. I am also allowed to choose if the dragon is an adult or a hatchling and filter the AH search accordingly.

-If a dragon reaches level 25, they will still be part of the Pinkerlocke but they cannot be picked for coli or death streak. They will, however, still be able to breed and their kids will be fully part of the Pinkerlocke.

Of course she wasn't, a wind dragon like her had an impeccable sense of direction. Yet, she wasn't sure she'd ever seen that rock before, or that tree. Father will not be impressed if I'm late she thought worriedly, her basket of herbs she had painstakingly collected all afternoon felt heavy against her scales as she tried to find home. Breeze wasn't lost. Suddenly, Breeze was met with a gap in the trees Wait, is that the clan's clearing? a rush of energy flowed through the young wildclaw and she raced to the gap between the trees. A wave of heat hit her as she saw something that definitely wasn't home The Ashfall Waste? No way, I was heading east, not south. Great, now I'm ages away from home! I'll have to go- a wail interrupted her thoughts, it came from below in Fire territory she thought with a gulp oh, father is going to kill me.

Pain shot through Ember's hind leg, he couldn't bear to look at it, but quick glances told him that it was bent far beyond where it should be. He let out another cry for help, hoping his mentor would find him and know what to do, but it was a strange wildclaw that answered him. She glanced down at his leg "Ouch, what did you do to it? It looks painful" she winced and gave him a sympathetic look.
"You're, a wind dragon!" The tundra exclaimed,
"Does it matter? I'm trying to help you" she said, grabbing a strange smelling plant from a wooden basket slung over her waist and begun to chew it. Ember screwed up his face as she spread it across his wounds, he closed his eyes and the wildclaw jumped backwards. She gasped worriedly and placed a talon on his shoulder "I'm so sorry, are you alright? I don't remember where I live alright"
"really? You don't remember where you live? Oh wait you're a tundra! Of course you don't! Um, how about we ask around, where is the nearest town anyway?" Came the confused reply. Ember sighed, his silence seemed to be all the wildclaw needed. She turned to face the Windswept Plateau "you don't know do you, well you can come with me! "Ember, have you got anything in that miracle basket of plants to stop this pain?" He tried again to stand up, actually managing it this time for a few seconds before falling back on his side again. The wildclaw reached into her basket again and pulled out another strange plant "of course, eat this!" Ember did as she said and tried to get up again, finding his leg hurt a little less than before "thanks," he gasped, beginning to limp towards Wind territory "well then, let's go find your home."

Kuiper didn't know what to do. He was alone now, he never had been before. His classmates had been ambushed on their way to the Arcane lands for their study trip, and he had left them. Kuiper had been tasked with hunting for the group whilst they set up camp, he came back to find all of them dead. Claw marks were everywhere, on the ground, on his classmates and now on his heart. He had checked all over camp, nobody had survived. The young mirror tried to push away the memory, but the blood on his lab coat kept his mind going. Trying not to cry, he glanced up at the stars barely visible in the dying sunset. As he drifted off to sleep the scene at the camp drifted back into his mind, I will complete the study for you, even if I have to travel to the Observatory alone.

Alright! Here it is, the start of the story. Day one will be tomorrow, Pinkerton better not give me a battle stone. Once Breeze and Ember find Kuiper, the story should pick up a bit more as today was just introducing the characters.

She hated the Ashfall Waste and its lava, arid heat and disappointing lack of plants I suppose fire dragons must love it she thought, wondering how any dragon could truly love a wasteland like that. Somewhere behind her the bushes rustled, and she whirled around preparing to run but she was greeted by a familiar voice, "Can you slow down? I can't exactly walk all that fast anymore," her Tundra companion poked his ash-coloured head through the foliage and glared teasingly at her, "Oh, sorry Ember!" Breeze said running back to his side. She checked his leg again, it still trailed behind him but at least the wounds looked better now. She'd asked him how it happened the night before, when they had set up a makeshift camp in a small cave on the border and he had told her he didn't remember much except the immense pain he felt when it happened dumb Tundra memory she thought with an eye roll. After she finished checking Ember's leg they immediately started traveling again, after a while the pair stumbled across a small clearing in the bamboo which looked like it had been a camp once but was now completely abandoned. It didn't take much to see why, dragons lay across every inch of the ground below them and strange claw marks were everywhere. Breeze felt sick "What do you think happened here?" she whispered "I don't - I don't know" Ember stuttered back, neither dragon could take their eyes off of the scene either out of fear, respect or some combination of both. They looked small, so probably not much older than themselves, except for about four of them and they all wore lab coats. With a closer look, Breeze could see lots of strange scientific equipment strewn across the ground "It looks like a school trip, poor dragons," before Ember could reply, one of the skeletons moved startling both of them. Breeze shrieked and the skeleton's crests shot up as it leaped back in fright, "That's a dragon!" she realized "Wait! We wont hurt you!" she carefully walked around the edge of the clearing, making sure not to tread on any of the dragons below. Now she was closer, she could see the fear in his electric blue eyes and noticed he was wearing a similar lab coat to the others "What happened? Who are you?" she questioned "I - I could say the same thing to you," the mirror replied, studying her claws "Alright, my name is Breeze and I can guarantee you I didn't do this to them." "Kuiper, my name's Kuiper," he said, quickly turning his gaze from her talons "Sorry, I just want to know what happened to them, I was out hunting and came back to this. I know as little as you do." Breeze looked back at Ember, who was still frozen in place atop the hill staring down at them. "That's my friend, can he come meet you too?" she asked, Kuiper nodded in reply and she gestured for Ember to come down. Breeze saw the mirror stiffen once he noticed her friend's limp. After a while, Ember finally made it down and introduced himself "Greetings, I'm Ember, you?" "What happened to your leg? Oh and I'm Kuiper" the mirror trailed off "You don't remember, correct? Don't your kind have terrible memories?" Ember nodded silently and the mirror studied it "Have you not found a healer? You could never walk on it again if you don't fix it you know" Ember snarled, causing Kuiper to leap backwards and almost trip over a rock "Don't you think I know?" he yelled "You have more important things than what I do with my life, you're surrounded by your friends are you not going to show them any respect?" Breeze gasped and shoved Ember with a front claw. She glared at him and turned towards the shivering mirror who had curled himself into a ball behind the rock "are you alright? I'm sorry for my friend, he's scared he won't be able to use it again-" she started, but she was quickly interrupted by Kuiper "No, he's right, I have to bury them. Like this they are easy prey for beastclans and other scavengers" he slowly uncurled himself and started to dig. Wordlessly, Breeze joined him and eventually Ember did too until they had finally dug a hole deep enough and buried Kuiper's classmates. Kuiper bowed his head and struck the ground with a small bolt of lightning magic, leaving a mark very similar to the lightning emblem across the grave. The three dragons said nothing else, each building a small shelter to spend the fast approaching night in. Breeze watched Kuiper leave his den once the sun had fallen and stare up at the distant stars for a while, she could tell he was muttering something but she wasn't sure what. She started to feel drowsy after a few minutes of watching him and missed the moment when he went back to his den. ----- Finally Pink let my starting characters meet! Kuiper needed a moment to register what Ember had just said He- he apologized? he didn't think the tundra was capable of humbling himself he always seemed so headstrong Kuiper held out a talon and Ember shook it "Of course, I'm sorry too I didn't think how such an intrusive question would affect you. We don't just have to be friends for Breeze either, she seems to really like you too and I'd rather we weren't just friends for someone else's sake" Kuiper could feel himself smile, the first time since this happened suddenly, the unthinkable happened, Ember cracked a rare smile too before turning back to wake Breeze. What a strange dragon he thought with a quiet laugh I'll miss them both when I leave for Arcane territory.

Ok so I was going to have them leave for Arcane today, but I remembered Kuiper and Ember had barely interacted, so here they are. Ember really needed to apologize to Kuiper before agreeing to follow him all the way to another territory after all.

There weren't many plants in ice territory, but there were enough to feed the large population of Tundra but this smelled endless, like a whole continent of plants she'd never imagined. After a while, they reached the crowd and were given a tent made from elk fur to stay the night before travelling across the sea. Her father took the furs they had been wearing and lay them beside a large campfire just outside the tent, he paused for a minute and Boreal imagined him warming his talons and enjoying the rare heat. Trying not to cry due to the pain, she plunged her talons into a pile of nearby snow.
