Cecily served Gillian and Blackwolf their drinks. The two dragons had seemed significantly more dejected since Violet's disappearance, but they never gave any indication as to why. Still, they were regular customers, and Cecily was always happy to see them. They seemed concerned about her break-up with Bahat as well, which was very nice considering all that had gone down at the Rot Ball. Most dragons didn't offer that same kindness.
After she had dropped off their order, she whirled back in the kitchen to pick up something for Bonegnasher and his friends. However, she was stopped by her mother.
"He's here," was all she said, but it was enough. Cecily took a deep breath, and moved to the back door.
"Are you going to be okay?" Seaberry asked, sympathy in her large red eyes. She knew all to well how this felt, though she had fortunately never been forced to spend to much time with her exes.
Cecily creaked open the wooden door, and found Bahat waiting, looking a little awkward. Cecily cracked a fake smile, trying to mask her sadness.
"Can I see her?" The mirror asked, all four of his purple eyes looking hopeful.
"Of course," Cecily breathed, then gave herself a shake. She and Bahat were on different sides. The only thing they shared in common was their daughter.
Not daring to meet his gaze, she turned and led him up the stairs towards her room. She cracked open the door quietly, so as not to disturb the sleeping hatchling within. Bahat followed her in silence as she made her way over to the small bed that their daughter lay in.
"Meet your daughter, Clarissa," Cecily breathed.
Bahat had eyes only for his daughter. It allowed her to get a proper look at her ex. He looked good, if a little scrawnier than usual.
"And the others?" Bahat asked, not taking his eyes off of Clarissa.
"Gone," Cecily admitted. "The city took them."
Bahat nodded. "Bone lost on in his last nest too. Cedric and Caroll had a sister."
"Dusk too," Cecily reminded him.
"I hope their safe out there," Bahat sighed.
"Me too," Cecily admitted. "But we have Clarissa."
"We have Clarissa," Bahat agreed. "Gosh, she's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen!"
And in that moment, Cecily thought her heart would break. But she didn't let it.
Sorry for being so AWOL after that cliffhanger. I've had a bit of a week, and I completely lost motivation and inspiration until today. (I didn't even give Clarissa her song until today!) I really wanted to write more, but then I started watching Netflix with my parents and I only had time for the one scene. With any luck, we'll get back to the tunnel crew tomorrow...
There was a lot of Coli time this week though.
- The first stint was Ragna, Virtue and Hollyn. Ragna and Hollyn are level 4, Virtue is level 5.
- The second stint was Dusk, Bohrium and Ulf. With Ulf's high level, it was a bit of a disaster, but thankfully as Bohrium was below the level of the Woodland Path I got to flip a death save for him and he survived. Bohrium is still level 2, Ulf is still level 7, but Dusk joined Bohrium at level 2!
- The third stint was Cecily, Coldstorm and Lucian. Neither Coldstorm nor Lucian leveled up, but Cecily is now level 4!
Also, Clarissa's siblings are available for adoption if anyone wants either of them! The first is a boy and the second is a girl! I still need to randomize their theme songs, but I'll get to that soon! (So sad I didn't get to keep the ghost boy...)
