The arrival of the Riot of Rot had brought with it a fresh bloom of mushrooms Cantarelli hadn't seen since she had left the scarred wasteland. She wondered what her family was doing back home- probably gathering mushrooms and planning a big riot of rot feast to celebrate another year survived. By gathering mushrooms for her and the shop, she felt almost as if she were a part of things.
If only Dusk were here, to share in the tradition. But her son was still off having other adventures.
It had been quite a while since they had heard from him. Despite her belief that her son was strong and would find a way through any challenge thrown at him, she too had heard the rumors of Darkstar and longed for reassurance that her boy was safe. But, it did not do to dwell on things that could not be changed. She had to concentrate on the meal she and Coldstorm would be hosting tonight. Her mate was out hunting, and she needed enough mushrooms to make enough food for everyone.
Suddenly, a rather strange mushroom formation caught her eye. Rings of mushrooms were emanating from a central point, and the mushrooms were growing larger in front of her very eyes. This must be the source of the plague mushrooms, as this variety was not found in the Tangled Wood. Compelled by her curiosity, she flew towards the center.
A red orb sat at the center of the rings, pulsating like some sort of inflamed boil. Cantarelli caught a strong whiff of plague magic, and immediately felt as though she were home. Smiling to herself, she moved to pick it up, only for a skeletal hand to close over it and some sort of spirit to appear out of the air and swirl around the gemstone, eyeing the nocturne with suspicious red eyes.

Cantarelli met the spirit's gaze, not daring to blink. The gem guardian growled at her, but she did not wince, even when it spewed a sickly green spittle in her face. Apparently impressed with her strength, the gem guardian nodded and took up its place alongside the nocturne.
It looks like she would have mushrooms aplenty for her dinner tonight.

"Yeah, of course, don't you worry your feathers off. I'm going to be learning magic from mom while you both go off on your adventures. Trust me, I'm much happier here," Kobe smirked, looking at his siblings. Katie could sense he was telling the truth. "You all good Kael?" He asked.
"Yeah, of course I'm good, why wouldn't I be?" Kael lied. Their brother stood beside Katie, emanating nervous energy. Katie knew Kael wasn't too keen on what they were about to do, but that wasn't going to stop her. She was going to go with or without him.
"Yeah, exactly? What's there to be scared of! We're just doing some recruitment, that's all!" Katie grinned.
"Yeah, recruitment," Kael said, rolling his eyes.
"Don't be so worried, Kael. Just remember what dad taught you and you'll be all good," Kobe reminded him. "And you'll be back before too long, right? It's just a short trek out tonight? To prepare your for the Rot Ball?"
"Yeah, I guess," Kael sighed.
"Come on Kael, it's going to be great!" Katie said, nudging his shoulder. "Don't be such a spoilsport!"
"Yeah," Kael murmured, looking up at the dark sky. "Great."

A short chapter to get me back in the swing of writing and to introduce Jett and Scoril's kiddos! We'll be getting back to the dergs in the Hewn City soon, but depending on how my timing works for school and everything, it might have to wait until after Riot of Rot is over.
Aw man, with three goes in the Coli, that's a lot of dragons to check the levels of, so let's just do an update of everyone's levels to see how they all stand.
