Jett you monster--

If no one claims Cantarelli I'd be happy to take her in! Just curious, what exactly was she wearing?

@Petall Every time I see Jett's picture at the beginning of a chapter, I brace myself, because there's no way in Sornieth this can end well. (Also, I've begun scrolling to the ends of your posts to see who dies, so I that I can *Scar voice* be prepaaaaared~!)

Wow! Cantarelli indeed made her last moments count! I was not expecting that, and that was quite a way to go. Hmm. I'm also really curious to see how Solstice will fare once all this is over, if she's still alive. She's signed onto Jett's side wholeheartedly, and considering how Scoril, Edna, Kael, and others turned against him, that's saying a lot.

Yup! Without the safety of knowing if it's a battle pull or not you never know what's going to happen to these beloved characters in these final chapters...

I'm glad to hear I did her death justice! And yeah, despite the many dragons who have turned against him, there are those who will remain loyal to him...

His safe haven remained, untouched by the battles that raged around him. He wondered what Neveah would do if she'd be here. She'd fight alongside Age, loyal until her dying breath, he was sure. She'd probably think him a coward for hiding. That was an apt description of himself - a coward. Suddenly, there was the clang of metal. Someone was here. He looked weakened, though he could tell by the light in his eyes that he wasn't giving up. Solstice offered her support as Jett stumbled, but he refused it, and she stepped respectfully away. "Don't tell anyone I'm here, if you know what's good for you," Jett rasped. "And keep that gem guardian away from me, or I will order Solstice here to go and kill your daughter." Any scrap of courage Khepri might have held evaporated at the mention of his daughter. He had already lost so much, he couldn't bear the thought of losing Pomona as well, especially not after it had taken so long to reconnect with her. Their time together had been far too brief. "Good man," Jett smirked, noticing his fear. "Now, I'm just going to lay low a while. You keep doing what you're doing, I won't make a peep." Khepri hesitantly returned to his forge, keeping one eye on the recovering king. Every so often, his gaze darted to his gem guardian. Why was Jett so scared of them? They must hurt him in some way. Maybe there was something he could do, something that would make Neveah and Pomona proud of him. Suddenly, there was another clang of falling metal, and a large ridgeback entered the room, dragging Pomona with her. His daughter's scales were bruised and beaten, though he could tell she had not given up the fight. Jett chuckled. "I already told Fallstar to go and get her. I saw you eyeing your gem guardian, I wanted some insurance to make sure that you didn't pull anything funny. Now, hand it over." "Dad, do it! I don't care! I've lost enough already, this is a cause I am willing to die for!" Pomona snarled, headbutting Fallstar. The larger ridgeback barely budged, but retaliated by wrapping shade tendrils around the snapper to restrain her. Khepri stood frozen, watching his daughter squirm. He couldn't do this. He couldn't lose her like this. Jett had taken enough from him. He took the gem guardian in his hand, and passed it to Jett. The gem immediately burned Jett's hand on contact. The king yelped and jumped back. Immediately, the gem guardian rushed to pick up its gem again, glared at Khepri, and moved to burn away Pomona's restraints. "Do you care about this kingdom at all?" Pomona growled. "Or are you really the coward everyone says that you are?" Khepri stared at her in silence. "Stand and fight for this kingdom, for the family that we've lost, or else I never want to see you again," Pomona said. Khepri closed his eyes. "Pomona, I'm sorry I was never there." "I don't want to hear it!" Pomona hissed. "No, please, hear me out," Khepri sighed. "I've made a lot of mistakes, out of fear of losing the ones I love, and as a result, have lost them anyways. I've let fear get the better of me more times than I can count, but I won't let that happen this time. I'm sorry that it took me so long to realize." "Dad, what are you saying?" Pomona asked, eyes suddenly wide with fear. "I'm saying that you've done enough for the people around you. It's time for me to do something for you for once," Khepri said. Suddenly, all the fear left him. He wasn't sure if it was the adrenaline or the peace with his fate, but he suddenly knew with absolute certainty what he had to do. He whistled, calling the gem guardian to him. It flew to his side, dropping the gem in his hand. With a roar, he charged towards Jett, tossing the fiery gem at him. It exploded on impact, burning up the forge in a column of fire. Khepri felt it burn around him as he sat at the epicenter, and he gritted his teeth against the pain. Eventually, the smoke began to clear, and Khepri found himself facing a very singed Jett, standing, eyes twitching with anger. Just then, Khepri felt a wave of dizziness, and he collapsed. As darkness threatened his vision, he locked eyes with Pomona. "You're my one true love," he rasped. "The one thing I care about most in this world. I'd do anything for you." And with that, everything went dark, and he was surrounded by the scent of flowers. The Shade within her was fighting desperately to take her over completely and join the fray. She had hidden for many years on the furthest reaches of the Knowledge District Wilds, as far as the city would let her go without pulling her back, and yet it still was not far enough. She would always be fighting against this force that sought to control her. She struggled to see how she would ever break free. She wanted so desperately to join the fight, to help her family reclaim the crown, but she was nothing more than a liability. A liability with no future except to use every last piece of her strength to stop the darkness from overtaking her. She didn't even know who she was anymore. Just then, a vortex appeared in front of her, and a tundra stepped out, followed by a wildclaw with a gem guardian. And that's how it got such a good grasp on her. "I'd go help, but the Shade, it's too strong for me to hold off. I've probably already said too much. If Jett sees me..." She shook her head. "You have to make sure that Ragna joins the fight, and that her child is kept safe." "And where is she?" Juliette asked. "And once we deal with Jett, we'll make sure that you get the help you need too." Bridget nodded, turning away so that she could not see her go, giving Jett the least information that she could, and returned to her personal fight alone. ----- Next ----- @CleverDual @HauntedWhale @Disillusionist @AlchemyFox @Tirtouga678 @catmeow1 @Leopardmask @Autumnus @chantric @Dynami @ShinyDecidueye @tigressRising @REEEEEEEEEEEEEE @Stitched @Willnotgogently @Sabariel @MisterMylez @Skystrider @Starongie @icetail0912 @myriadofstars @Aetherstorm @Weredogalism @Nargeorgicorn @WeaverofLies @herobrinna @secretlylying @Azurepocalypse @GoldictheHedgefx @CobaltMoon @Tiffkaboo @Orodruin @SkullGeist @Violeteevee @Amaluna @DragonPrincess27 @Dakala @Drachenschwinge @Glassowary @GrinningWolf24 @CleverTrick @Moonweaverr @Unicorn6 @Tynethyne ----- I really really waffled on whether or not to kill Khepri, up until the very end when he blacked out, but with the direction this ended up going, I think that's what it needs to give his sacrifice the weight it deserves. @Petall Poor Khepri. But at least he died happy I guess. T-T

At this point I'm not sure if Jett is just too weak to think straight or if he's dumb. If I were him I had just killed Khepri before he could have had a chance to use the Gem Guardian. Of course you can't just kill all of your subjects if you want to stay king but he should know how dangerous those eleven dragons are to him.
