Breezes swirl through the bamboo, ruffling feathers, setting lanterns swaying, and uplifting the ever-present kites of the Cloudsong, as well as the much smaller, personal ones of dragons having fun. But one of the less obvious, but still enjoyable, things the wind carries with it is the smells of good food. There's enough at the Jamboree to make even the pickiest gourmand salivate, with many brightly decorated food stalls and dragons hawking their wares. It would be difficult for most dragons to have the time to sample it all (except for perhaps the larger breeds who could use the sheer size of their stomachs to their advantage)! But, for those who want their food to be a bit more engaging, there's an event for them as well. Set away from the main fairgrounds is a well established clearing containing a massive stone slab, easily large enough for several of the larger breeds to work around it, but also with suitable areas carved out along the edges to not leave out the smaller. Along the edge of the clearing stands a variety of tents, stocked with food based on the smells wafting out of them, and an assortment of ovens, firepits, and even some strange looking Lightning tech (more Arcane-inclined dragons in the group notice that there seems to be a fair number of anti-fire enchantments surrounding the bamboo). New this year is the festive decorations that appear to have been added. Typicaly this event site is rather plain and simple, so as to avoid encouraging any further accidents than those that already occur without assistance. But this time someone has taken to stringing up flowerchains between tents and scattering orange colored foliage along the main pathways. The source appears to be a brown Tundra, who'd just finished assembling some decorative apple baskets near a clearing entrance, and gives a wave as dragons walk by. When given a puzzled expression, the Tundra chuckles to himself and gestures at the stone slab. "If you just want to eat you might want to turn around and head back before you get pulled in too deep here. But, if you want to have some fun cooking for prizes, you're in the right place!" "Each day one of my clan's chefs, yours truly included, will present everyone with three ingredients. You then have the whole day and an ample pantry to use to your advantage and make a dish with those ingredients. If the judge of the day likes it, you bring honor and glory to your clan!" He pauses and adds, "And prizes. We like to reward good work. And bad work. And accidents that are caused by both judges and contestants alike." There's a somewhat awkward silence after the last bit. This challenge is for all users out there who enjoy food and cooking, whether they have real life skills in the kitchen or not! For those of you who have participated in this event in previous years, it’s mostly business as usual beyond the change for this year’s theme. For those of you joining us for the first time, keep reading for a rundown of how the contest works and the more specific rules. Every day I will post three Flight Rising food items in the challenge post. It will then be up to you to write up a post that has one of your dragons attempting to create a dish that will impress that day's judge. I will then use a RNG which will determine how well you do and what prize you win as a result. In addition to the daily prize, [b]each entry gains you two raffle tickets! [/b]One will be for a daily drawing for a secret bonus prize created by that day's judge. The second will be towards a drawing at the end of the Jamboree, so be sure to come back every day for higher chances at the goodies in the prize post! [b]Note regarding challenge updates[/b]: Since I (theoretically) should be asleep when rollover occurs, challenges will be updated when I wake up. This should be around 05:00FRT, but this could vary. As a result, don't feel pressured to get your entries in before rollover. Feel free to respond to judging posts or other contestants, but you only get one shot at a daily prize. [*]You must use at least one of your dragons in your turn, though you don’t have to use the same one all week. [*]You must use [b]all three[/b] of the posted ingredients, but you are allowed and encouraged to use other ingredients (whether they exist as in-game items or not). Assume that every potential ingredient and/or cooking device is available for your dragons to use (some of the more advanced gadgetry has been nabbed from Lightning). [*]Entries are encouraged to be written as role-play, but I'll also accept recipe format, just so long as it is written in-character/associated with one of your dragons. [*]Technically there is no word length minimum or maximum. Write whatever is most comfortable for you, so long as all three challenge ingredients are used. [*][b]PLEASE BE PATIENT![/b] Doing customized RP responses for judging is one of the reasons I love running this event, but I do work a 9-5 M-F job. However she's unofficially banned from the kitchen caverns due to her clumsiness. He's got more than a small obsession with honey and tries to find any excuse to use it. Besides him, his twin brother, Roxy, just looked dismayed. "I have just the perfect dish." Reggi declared. "First, we take the [b]Greenpod Bloom[/b], and boil in salted water for 30 minutes-" "Don't put the whole pod in!" Roxy nearly screamed as Reggi attempted to shove the entire pod into the boiling pot. "You haven't even cut and washed it first!" Reggi didn't appear concerned at all. "I know what I'm doing. Trust me. I've watched mom cook plenty of times." "Watching mom cook and actually cooking and two different things." Roxy attempted to remind him. His twin brother ignored him, grabbing the Greenpod Bloom from Roxy's hands, the Imperial shoved the entire thing into boiling water anyways, the pot sizzling slightly as he did so. Roxy winced as his twin brother forced the lid of the pot close. "Alright. While that's cooking, we take this here [b]Frosted Violets[/b]-" Reggi felt around for the ingredients briefly before he found them and grabbed a handful, "And we cut them up, like so!" The table shook and creaked as Reggi slammed the butcher knife onto the table repeatedly, completely obliterating the Frosted Violets. "And then, once we're done with that-" Reggi reached for the blender. "-We'll make a nice topping for the cooking Greenpod Bloom by blending these chopped up violets and mixing them with this [b]Fragrant Orchid[/b]-" "Reggi, no!" Roxy attempted to stop his sibling, but it was too late. Reggi had shoved both plants into the blender and promptly turned it on, the depressing pieces of violets quickly being mashed into the Fragrant Orchids, becoming nothing more than a dubious paste of blue and white. Reggi opened the lid, and recoiled in visible disgust, nearly dropping the blender entirely; The concrete-like mixture now smelled of sickly, half-digested meat. "Holy heck!" Roxy covered his nose. This cooking challenge was [i]not[/i] going well for them so far. "A-and... And then, we..." Reggi tried not to let the smell bother him, but his grin was faltering. "W-we... We take the pod that's been c-cooking out from the pot..." Boiling water splashed everywhere on the table in his haste to get the half-cooked Greenpod Bloom out. Blowing away at the steam, Reggi managed to carve a hole into the center of the pod, which was still raw. The Greenpod Bloom looked somewhat depressing, with tattered leaves scattered all over the table while being nearly torn in half by the Imperial's attempts at prying it open. "Now, we just pout this mixture that we've prepared into it and... Ta-da! It's completed!" As Reggi finished pouring the foul-smelling mixture into the Greenpod Bloom, Roxy barely managed to suppress his urge to puke. "Wh-what would you even call a monstrosity like that...?" "[b]Boiled Greenpod Blooms, with Forested Violets mixed with Fragrant Orchids![/b]" Reggi proclaimed, proudly. Roxy wasn't sure how he was going to survive an entire week of this challenge with his brother's horrid cooking.

Frosted violets were very popular in her clan, so she knew how to prepare those. The greenpod blooms were generally slow-cooked, but she had recently discovered that the hard pods had a more citrusy flavor that she especially loved. She tentatively prodded the fragrant orchids, not wanting to even pick them up. Yes, they would be the real problem here. How could she make something appetizing when it smelled like it was rotting? Realizing that she had already wasted too much time, Gwyn got to work preparing the food. Making sure to keep them cool, she plucked the individual petals off of the frosted violets, tossing them with a mix of nuts and rotala leaves to make a refreshing salad. Then she chopped the greenpod blooms into small chunks. Stopping briefly, she tasted one and was once again struck by its strong, bright, flavor. Maybe it was enough to mask the scent of the orchids! She diced the blooms into smaller pieces and added a splash of vinegar and a pinch of sugar, mixing it into a sort of relish. Then she roasted the orchid petals, coughing at the horrid stench they gave off. Once they were cooked, Gwyn coated each in the greenpod relish and laid them on a bed of frosted violet salad. It looked very springlike, especially with the touch of a whole violet as a garnish. The skydancer made a mental note to try this recipe for the clan. Perhaps it could even convince the hatchlings to eat the fragrant orchids.

When he saw they were flowers he had hoped to make tea. While the greenpod bloom could certainly work with a bit of creativity, the others just wouldn't fit quite right. Not with his level of experience. The orchids were particularly problematic. He wasn't sure if it was possible to get rid of the stench completely. Maybe if he treated it like durian... He opted to try making ice cream out of the orchids and violets, with some berries mixed in for better flavor. The berries and violets would go nicely together, he just hoped the orchid wouldn't make the taste too floral. There were several things going on in his kitchen at once. He started the pod cooking over an open fire to make sure it bloomed. He put his other flowers and fruit into a blender to reduce them to a paste. He also started boiling some milk and cream, hoping that things would get done around the same time. After much mixing and chilling he had something he deemed a good consistency. ButtsPie made sure the bloomed pod was completely cool before he scooped a big ball of the ice cream into its middle. The plant made a really pretty bowl actually. As a final touch he broke off one shell "petal" and stuck it in the ice cream to be used as an edible spoon.

Humming, she uses the [b]Frosted Violets[/b] as the base, making sure that they are the biggest bits and bobs of the salad. Next, she shreds the [b]Greenpod Bloom[/b] into a slaw and tosses it in. For extra oomph, she makes sure to add in parsley and carrots, her personal favorites. Last, she uses the [b]Fragrant Orchids[/b] as a garnish to make the salad look pretty.
