Day 5: Curling
Dragons: Bombarda, Jasper, Nebula, Alakazam

The pretty Arcane Skydancer stood waiting with her team, feeling the nervousness she had not felt last year settling in. Though that could be because of who had decided to join her this year, Bombarda admitted to herself. While she had every confidence in her brother--she had trained Alakazam how to play this game herself after all--she wasn't sure why either Jasper or Nebula had joined, and that was not really a good thing in a team, ever. As she heard the announcer call their team's number, Bombarda just hoped that the old Coatl and the crafty Tundra would do what they were supposed to, and not engage in their own agendas....

They'd been adapted for quadruped breeds, having two foot-slots on each ski, but she still felt awkward in them. She rumbled, waiting for the call to start. She turned her head to look at the stands. Dryad was there, as well as Wispy, They were holding up a sign together. She couldn't read it, but it was brightly colored, and she knew they meant the best. Next, she faced the slope and the jump she would have to make. She was a Mirror, a mostly land-bound breed. Would this be what it felt like to fly?

All of his gear was designed to give him the smoothest and most aerodynamic shape as he took to the slope for the slalom, so the short-term discomfort would, hopefully, be worth it. He really hated crushing his fins like this, though. He reached up and wiggled his helmet one last time, trying to ease the pressure just a little, and told himself it would only be for a few minutes. The slalom was all about speed, after all. Speed - and accuracy. Jormungandr leaned over the edge of the starting line, taking deep breaths, and then launched himself out of the gate. He directed himself straight towards the first gate, twisting his feet just in time to push around the right side of the pole. He cleared the gate while already noodling his body around into the turn to face the second, the third, the fourth - it was an intense, breathless rush through the challenging course. It was over in just under a minute! He skiied through the finishing line and straightened, ripping his helmet off his head to take the adulation of the crowd while the adrenaline pumped through him, bringing a grin to his face.

He wasn't used to wearing something so elaborate and fancy, and yet so ephemeral: he had to resist the urge to tug at the hems and sleeves, and pull in his wings to cover himself up under the eyes of so many spectators. The figure skating was popular at this year's Winter Games - and there had been some truly exceptional example of ice dancing so far. As the scores were added to the board, his nerves had increased until he was no longer able to even look at the end of each performance. Now it was his turn, at last. He nodded for the music to begin and closed his eyes as he pushed off from his starting position, trying to shut out everything but the chill of the frozen water beneath him and the rhythm of the music. His heart pounded in his ears. He didn't listen to it. Corvus furled his wings and leapt up, springing off one skate and twirling through the air - once, twice, three times, four, his golden silks fluttering around him - and hitting the ice cleanly with the opposite foot. He wobbled, but he didn't fall. The exhilaration of his first successful jump swept through Corvus like a tide, washing away the worst of his fears and leaving the rest of his programme clear in his mind. He pictured it as he skated into position for his next manoeuvre, and then jumped.

Now: you will all do your best, and make your Clan proud, I am sure. I will be watching from the stands. Good luck!" He swept out in the direction of the stands, leaving the four siblings to finish getting ready for their curling match. "I hate it when he does that," Thruda muttered to her sister, Valkyrja, who was now spinning a curling broom in each hand. "Uses that big booming 'Voice of Authority'?" Valkyrja nodded, but then she turned towards their brothers and cleared her throat. "Okay, look. Magni. Modi. You're not going to spend this whole match arguing again, are you? I don't want a repeat of last year. Modi, remember: we put Magni down as the captain, so we have to actually listen to him." "Yes, yes," Modi sighed, snatching his broom back from Valkyrja. "I'll follow my orders, don't you worry." Thruda buried her head in her claws and groaned. "Can we not start before we've even made it onto the ice, please?" Magni laid a hand on her shoulder. "Sorry, sister," he murmured. Then he went over towards Modi and said, "We can't do this if we're just going to bicker all the way through it - and I know we can do well if we just operate as a team. We can do amazing things together." Modi threw him a disgusted look, as if the thought of being on the same team as his brother was anathema to him - or maybe just because Magni's conciliatory tone was, as usual, getting up his nose - but said nothing. "We can do this. Together. Can we at least try?" Magni suggested. "Fine," Modi agreed with a one-shouldered shrug. "Let's get this over with." He swung his broom up onto his shoulder and swaggered towards the tunnel that led to the rink. Thruda sighed and got to her feet, trailing after her siblings as they made their way towards their curling match. She was still sure that this was a truly terrible idea - but she could at least try her best, and maybe by the time she got home she would be able to look back on this day and laugh this with her familiar, Shavarash.

He shivers slightly, but other than that, the cold doesn't bother him all that much. Having a full set of clothes, along with some snowy changes to his skin (The Solstice Rosette skin) does wonders to help, but it's a shame that magic is disabled for all events-some Earthen Armor would help even more. Nevertheless, he waits alongside a handful of other dragons in the event, at the very beginning of a large expanse with a few hills and obstacles. He'd never tried or even heard of Cross-Country Skiing before, but it'd be a nice change from his usual, boring life. He double-checked that his skis were on correctly, before twirling his ski poles in hand. Another dragon almost gets hit by one, and after a short scolding, he huffs and sticks his poles into the ground, waiting for the event to start. It shouldn't be much longer now. As if he had called the event to action, a speaker soon read out the rules and told them to get ready. He positions himself accordingly, the cover of his hood allowing him to see a few feet in front of himself against the blinding sun. "On your marks." "Get set." "GO!"
