But even from a hatchry, it's the other person's dragon. If they have a reason to exalt unnamed, isn't that thier right? And I've seen hatcheries with rules about not being allowed to exalt. Couldn't they add they name all their dragons to keep Unnamed off the parent's lineage?
I've bought a dragon and then renamed them before, and I've bought dragons for their names (BlackBeauty and Boop) and kept them. (Boop was bought for exalt fodder, BlackBeauty was bought to be a mate, but the name convinced me to go with him. There were others with similar color schemes.) I've seen people use Unnamed as part of thier lore, as a tracking method for dragons. I use it when my dream dragon breeders don't get the right colors (again) or I can't stand a baby's colors. Rage exalt, woo! So, to me, it just seems silly to force a name if the name isn't forced at time of birth.
What if the dragon isn't exalted but in a dead lair? Or an active lair that doesn't name/hasn't figured out a name yet? I've had dragons go through two cooldowns before I named them.

Will trade on a 1:1 food point ratio for turtles. Let me protect the precious from dragon bellies!
No support. My biggest issue with suggestions that prevent unnamed dragon thing is that once a player sells a dragon, they have no say on what the purchaser does with the dragon. If a seller does not like unnamed dragons on their dragons' offspring list, they should name the hatchlings before they sell them and not expect the purchaser to do so or suggest the game be changed to force names upon dragons. Once a dragon is sold the seller has no say on what is done with that dragon; if unnamed dragons bother them, it is their responsibility to name the dragons before selling them. There have been several polls that have shown that most players aren't bothered by a pre-named dragon
Players exalt dragons unnamed for a variety of reasons.
--To differentiate exalted dragons from existing dragons on an offspring list. (IE they exalt their hatchlings unnamed; if they sell they generally get a name so its easy to tell at a glance who it is worth checking up on to see what that dragon has been up to)
--Some exalters prefer to exalt unnamed to avoid 'potentially harassing names' (IE the Mulch mess)
--Some exalters don't care if the dragon is named or not but don't want dragons automatically named when they exalt because it will slow them down (the system will have to update the name field and mark the dragon as exalted) when compared to pre-named dragons.
--Some players exalt dragons for story reasons:
----Unnamed hatchlings may have been ones that died as a hatchling
----Unnamed dragons may not have earned a name
----Unnamed dragons essentially do not exist in their story/head canon for certain pairs perhaps because they are trying to breed certain offspring and any that are not to the right characteristics are exalted unnamed
Suggestions like this essentially state that the breeder is more important than the buyer (since the argument tends to be that the unnnamed exalted offspring appear on the parents' page) which is incorrect since when you buy a dragon; you buy all rights to that dragon including the name or lack there of. The breeder seller has already been compensated for the dragon as they got the sales price they asked for. The exalter may have reasons for exalting unnamed (for example the dragon they exalted unnamed may have been used for a breeding project where they wanted unnamed parents or the dragon exalted unnamed may be referenced in their active clan members' profiles) and it is their right to be able to leave the dragon they exalted unnamed because it is their dragon.
The admins are working on a way to collapse exalted offspring so that they do not have to be visible if a player doesn't want to see them

I'd like to thank people for replying to this, as you can see I'm a bit new to all of this so I've actually learnt a few things from reading through the replies!
I do usually name my dragons before putting them up for auction, but myself and the little group I play with have noticed that no matter what price we sell them for (and I generally put my dragons up for a low price) it takes us a long time to sell them compared to unnamed dragons. This week I had two unnamed babies sell in minutes (both were exalted unnamed) compared to my named babies that sit around for days.
Personally, I don't mind buying named dragons (I bought a dragon called Poolleaker, and the name makes me laugh almost every time) so it's very interesting to learn about the surveys on the matter, even if what my friends and I have seen has been a bit different.
I also didn't know that people use Unnamed to track certain lineages or for RP purposes, so I have been enlightened on that front :)
I also understand the buying-exhalting cycle in the fight for dominance.
I just think for me I feel like when I sell my babies I'm giving them into the love and care of a new home - and a name, to me, is a sign of that care and kindness and acceptance into that new home. I know I have no power of them when they leave my lair, but to see them exalted unnamed just...ehs at me a bit.
I'll be naming them from now on.

The reason your babies sold quicker this week wasn't due to names. There's a big dominance battle going on between Arcane, Shadow and Ice. I predict by the end of the week, a lot of hatchlings are going to get snatched up--even ones prices at 12K-ish. So just as a heads up to everyone, if exalting and namelessness bothers you, you probably want to price your hatchlings a bit more this week unless you're willing to let them get speed exalted in this dom. battle.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
No support for all the reasons mentioned.
Some people tell unnamed-exalters that "clicking the randomise button takes just 2 seconds" but frankly, exactly the same thing could be said to the unnamed-sellers.

No support, as it always will be with these sorts of threads.
You don't own the dragon anymore, you don't get to say what happens to it or it's name. Case closed.

But, I'm not sure if anyone's brought this up, couldn't someone name a dragon 'Unnamed?' They could just re-name a named dragon Unnamed and exalt it for RP purposes? Maybe I'm over-thinking things, but this could happen. What then?
EDIT: Nevermind, I'm dumb XD
But still no support for reasons already stated.

That is not possible. You can't name any dragon unnamed.

Ah, thank you. I hadn't actually tried it so it's nice to know for future reference. :)
