TOPIC | [LF] Lore concept clarity critique?

I'm assuming biographies also fall under that category ^^" Feel free to move this thread to somewhere else where it could make more sense In the meantime, have a look at Gazer while I go over this thread's purpose. At this point, I've just about filled most of my permament resident's bios with story ideas. They feature things like pronouns, their job, surface level character traits and concepts for their backstory / manerisms to flesh them out.[/columns] What I'm missing is formatting and a more articulated way of presenting all of them. This is made slightly challenging by the fact that I'm in no way an experienced writer. Couple that with English not being my native language and you may come across some inconsistencies. Or strange choices akin to using weird, unintuitive synonyms. If anybody has the time to look through my [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/lair/706387/2553246?name=&type=undefined]canon tab[/url] and [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/94321777]these[/url] [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/93227703]goobers[/url] [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/94869205]here[/url] (each word a separate hyperlink), I'd be grateful to hear any critique you might have about the clarity or some revisions that may be made. Feel free to also share any writing excercises that would make this ordeal easier + examples from your lair. Or just tell me if anything I've written down makes a speck of sense lol edit: fiddling with coding to make this look nicer

In the meantime, have a look at Gazer while I go over this thread's purpose.

At this point, I've just about filled most of my permament resident's bios with story ideas. They feature things like pronouns, their job, surface level character traits and concepts for their backstory / manerisms to flesh them out.

What I'm missing is formatting and a more articulated way of presenting all of them. This is made slightly challenging by the fact that I'm in no way an experienced writer. Couple that with English not being my native language and you may come across some inconsistencies. Or strange choices akin to using weird, unintuitive synonyms.

If anybody has the time to look through my canon tab and these goobers here (each word a separate hyperlink), I'd be grateful to hear any critique you might have about the clarity or some revisions that may be made.

Feel free to also share any writing excercises that would make this ordeal easier + examples from your lair.

Or just tell me if anything I've written down makes a speck of sense lol

edit: fiddling with coding to make this look nicer

I had a quick flick through some of your bios and I like what you’ve got!

You mentioned you’d like help with formatting, so here’s an awesome master list of bio resources.
I find even if there isn’t a lot of fleshed out lore, having a nice layout can really elevate the whole vibe of a bio and make it feel more complete.

If you’re looking for inspiration, (both for how to format bios and how to make more articulate lore) I made a thread aaaages back asking to see pretty bios and people really delivered. Also from my own lair, Ozpin has the most fleshed out lore and bio.

I hope something I’ve mentioned here is helpful and good luck with your lore!!

@DragonsofPyrrhia A whole thread of bio codes? I really like how clean they are, thank you for providing a link :D I'll definitely look through them to see if any catch my eye

And maybe, as you said, metaphorically "framing" my dragon's biographies would make them feel whole in spite of having just a short blurb ^^

I also went ahead and liked Ozpin's page, what a whimsical being they are

I think an important question to ask is what are you trying to say and how do you want to say it? Some questions you can ask to see if you've fleshed out the bio enough: Do you have more to say about the character, either personality, desires, background, etc.? Do you want to keep it as short blurbs of biographical information, or do you want to expand it into short stories? Are these characters going to be used in a story others can read, and do they need any more information? Do [i]you[/i] think you've put enough there that a reader can get an accurate picture? Is there anything else you think is important, but aren't sure how to convey? It's fine if your answer to some of these is "that's not what I want to do," or, "those aren't really important things for me to consider." It's just important to think about what you want to write and how you want it to be. Personally, I think you have a great overview of your characters! I really like how you specifically describe their appearance and mannerisms in the "for art" section! I like how you used the symbols to convey the neutral, positive, and negative traits at the top. On formatting: The bios right now have a lot of listed information, which can be hard to read in big blocks. Separating it out with line breaks, bullet points, and columns can make it more readable. One example could be: [quote name="Bullet Points"]wants (concious): [LIST] [*]break from tiring home life drama; [*]a place to crash and earn money (which is the hospital, at the moment) [/LIST] needs (subconcious): [LIST] [*]more bean juice than they are allowed [/LIST][/quote] Bullet points are easy to use because there's a button for them in the text box. (2 to the right of the emoji button!) Columns make things appear pretty fancy like so: [quote name="Columns"][Columns]wants (concious): break from tiring home life drama; a place to crash and earn money (which is the hospital, at the moment) [nextcol] needs (subconcious): more bean juice than they are allowed [/columns][/quote] And you can add in things like making the titles bold, adding bullet points, adding images, etc.! [quote name="Very Fancy"][columns][item=flowering vulpine plushie][nextcol][b]wants (concious):[/b] [LIST] [*]break from tiring home life drama; [*]a place to crash and earn money (which is the hospital, at the moment) [/LIST][nextcol][item=bean juicer][nextcol] [b]needs (subconcious): [/b] [LIST] [*]more bean juice than they are allowed [/LIST][/columns][/quote] Here are some of the codes I used: [code] Bullet Points: [list] [*] bullet point 1 [*] bullet point 2 [/list] [columns] use [nextcol] to shift to the next column [/columns] [item= any item icon on FR] this will bring up the little box that has the description when you scroll over it- you can use it for any icon on the site! [/code] These are just some examples, and there's a lot more you can do! It will all depend on how much you want to code and how much time you feel like spending on that. Although once you get a good template going, you can just change the actual bio information in them! When I do bios, I play around a lot with formatting till I get everything how I want. But every character's bio doesn't have to look the same, and you can switch them up as well! Sorry that I've gone on and on, but hopefully I've given you some ideas to work with!!

Here are some of the codes I used:
Code:
Bullet Points: [list] [*] bullet point 1 [*] bullet point 2 [/list] [columns] use [nextcol] to shift to the next column [/columns] [item= any item icon on FR] this will bring up the little box that has the description when you scroll over it- you can use it for any icon on the site!

I read a couple of bios from your canon tab and the ones you linked (i like Herz's especially! I love characters who prioritise others' needs over their own and end up working themselves to the bone) and I think they're neat! They sum up your dragons well, and I love the way you have subconscious needs/conscious wants. Makes them feel more whole. If you're looking to keep the notes/details in your bio organised, I gotta second MimikyuDoll's suggestion. I agree with the whole 'figuring out what you want to accomplish with your lore too', though that's always something you can change along the way (friendly side note, subcon[b]s[/b]cious and con[b]s[/b]cious have an 's' in the middle!) From the list that DragonsofPyrrhia sent, I recognised a couple of names! Here are some of the creators that have simpler bio codes + specific suggestions! The pics are linked to the codes too [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/cc/2973310]faun's bio codes[/url], specifically Fables [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/link?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpastebin.com%2FAwY92mQc][img]https://f2.toyhou.se/file/f2-toyhou-se/images/78197401_mtwStg1sD1ZB25T.png[/img] [/url] [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/cc/3075554]milk's codes[/url] cyclic and pitch [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/link?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpastebin.com%2FHxc5uQih][img]https://i.postimg.cc/CKfpVW2c/code-bio-cyclic.png[/img][/url] [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/link?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpastebin.com%2Fw5KSANJw][img]https://i.postimg.cc/Vk4MqhLL/code-bio-pitch.png[/img][/url] and [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/cc/2975951/1#post_46526421]pai's codes[/url] [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/link?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpastebin.com%2FYVk3EyhS][img]https://i.imgur.com/DTzWP4d.png[/img][/url] also, for general directions as to where your lore can go, some time ago (2022? oh my god. where has time gone) [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/cc/3177059/1#post_52501183]I replied to someone's post[/url] talking about the different ways to get started on a dragon's lore (history, personality, occupation, location, etc.).
