Oftentimes the best thing to do when art block/disinterest in art is THIS bad is to take a break. Allowing your brain to not think about something gives it time and space to reset, so when you go back to whatever it is, you'll be excited about it again. You could also find some laidback art channels on youtube to watch (my personal go-to is Drawfee). Seeing other people being excited about art can help a lot, too. You could also take a look at your OCs and ask yourself what WOULD make you excited about them? Maybe their designs/stories just aren't quite your thing anymore and it's time for an update, which isn't a bad thing! It just shows that you've grown, and they've grown with you.
I thought other people sharing bits of their art journey was pretty interesting, so I decided to scrounge up a few older drawings to kind of show mine as well. Normally I avoid looking at my old art tbh but it's probably something I should be okay-er with doing lol
For fun I went ALLLLL the way back to roughly 2012 maybe (10-11 years old)? To find one of the first drawings I EVER made of my oldest OC, Cathala:
And here's one from I THINK 9th or 10th grade (15-16 years old), maybe 11th, after I'd gotten back into drawing after a 3-4 year hiatus:
Now for a change of pace, because from 2018-ish to 2020 my special interest was Gorillaz, and that was when I went through HUGE art puberty. Finding my style, learning my digital art program, figuring out how social media works, it was a lot. This was when my knowledge didn't match my skill, which is one of the roughest periods in any artist's life imo. But I learned a lot, and even though I have some regrets from that time (very iffy fandom...), I wouldn't be where I am now otherwise. Here's one of my earliest digital drawings from that time, from early 2020:
Back to Cathala, I found this while looking for something else. It's an interesting example from July 2020 of her in-between stage where I WANTED to start drawing her again, but didn't have a direction in mind. I was probably in a similar place to you; I had the attachment and knowledge, but not the excitement or skill:
Here's a set of digital drawings I did of her after I started redesigning her in February 2021:
A random picture from the period where I started redoing and properly adding on to her backstory and character. She'd been mostly a blank slate up to this point, and I only had vague backstory elements from random thoughts I'd had as a child. I was properly excited about her again after giving her a design and story that resonated with me:
And this is my most recent drawing, finished a few days ago for Valentine's Day (featuring her girlfriend, who I created also in February 2021):
We all start from somewhere, we all have our awkward phases, we all go through periods of no motivation. What you're not seeing here are the dozens and dozens of drawings I made in between each of these snapshots. Some of them I was proud of, some of them I honestly hated. You're also not seeing all the drawings I abandoned because I lost interest or didn't have the skill to do them justice. But every awkward drawing is necessary for the whole journey. You learn something every single time, and it adds up. You'll get your drive back, don't worry :)
