There was snow everywhere, which had started to wake some of the other ghosts in their little menagerie. Couples were stirring, confusion was in the air, and all they knew was that they had a messenger of some sort with a letter for them and the ability to see them. Eventually the creature gave Uriel the bag it had been carrying, let out one final squawk to Ariel, and took off in a flurry of snow. She shouted a promise to thank the fellow later with a decent meal as everyone began to gather around their first ghost, curious about what was sent in. This is the counter potion! We can change back! Oku's shout was enough to get Ariel over as well, curious as they checked everything over. Old rivalries seemed to have been cast aside in favor of making sure everyone turned back to a corporeal form by tomorrow. Even Michael and Razael were smushed together trying to look into the bag! Rhian was the one to rain on their parade, however, squinting at the vial. We need to divide this out for all of us, and we need to get the dust of something important to each one to turn back. It's incomplete, and we probably only have one shot at this. The group looked around at each other, counting heads. Twenty. They had twenty dragons to turn back because of their shenanigans. Then it clicked that they needed to be corporeal by tomorrow. This had to be done today. There was a moment of silence, the calm before the storm, before everyone raced off, shouting what they'd do behind them. Rhian would divide everything up into portions so they could properly change back. Mikey and Zadki could get her important dust. The others were to go and get their own objects, and be careful about it. They likely couldn't afford to change anyone else by mistake this time. Soon enough, the group had gathered their items. Pieces of silver, pollen from a prized plant, and so much more had been gathered together in Rhian's little office in the Divided Spire. The last to arrive were Okuraz and Razael, some of the first to have been turned. They milled about in the noonday sun, gathering dust from their respective objects to eventually add to their vials. Rhian had insisted on waiting for everyone to show up, just in case accidents happened. They waited, and waited, until suddenly they heard something near the door. They were confused at first, seeing as the couple didn't even need to use the door. Then they realized it was a pair of students gossiping about something. They were mostly worried about the fact the couple would need to find a new way in until they heard what the group were talking about. The heads of the two Grand Scholar factions, Goldie and Luci, had vanished right in front of the students eyes in the Divided Amphitheater, the gathering hall for students and citizens of Sailuma for major events. They'd been reassuring students and citizens that they were investigating the disappearances personally, with Hochmael standing in to explain what the Ophanim were doing about it. To have two prominent figures, who had been hidden away to ensure their safety, just vanish in front of everyone... It'd be worrying if the group couldn't guess what was actually going on. Sure enough, through the window came the couple, with Oku laughing his crest off and two very upset Imperials behind them. It was clear they'd gone to get something for the pair as well, who just seemed downright confounded by the situation. Apparently it had been Oku's idea, mostly due to his dislike of the darker Imperial. In either case, they had some work to do still. Too bad it was just like them to be caught one last time. The drakes explained everything they could as Rhian divided out the potion base. Twenty two entire bases to mix in dust, twenty two items with dust to turn back. The newest additions were skeptical, of course. Who wouldn't be? But Rhian seemed to know what she was doing, and she knew her magic well. And to be fair, she tied herself to both factions. She would help everyone present at the moment. They didn't consider the attention their item gathering could catch. Floating objects, mostly belonging to the missing drakes... Of course the one that handled the deceased the most, and somewhat believed in ghosts to begin with according to the students, would be drawn to all this when he saw something floating to Rhian's room. He waited, of course. Waited for the students to leave the room alone, to move along. Maybe he encouraged them to go off to their classes. But he needed to see this for himself. They all lifted their completed potions when the door opened, revealing Azriel. The Imperial could only stare at the group, who were all just staring back at him. They thought he'd only see floating vials and instructions. Honestly, still a disturbing sight, especially in a circle around a crystal, but better than seeing them all as ghosts. Then he spoke up. "... Did... Did all of you really die, or is this really just an odd potion?" It seems the rumors about him seeing the dead, or supposed dead, were confirmed. Fitting for him to be a mortician, in the end. They had a lot of explaining to do. Long enough for it to drag off into nightfall before they finally drank their potions to rest for tomorrow. Hopefully the Icewarden, or whoever it was that'd meet them all, wouldn't be too upset with them. Grudges will always lead to some last minute ghost turning, and Oku loves a good prank. At least they got to learn more about their undertaker Azriel. If only he hadn't been resting through the games this year. Maybe he'd have been able to help everyone from the start! Lets hope the Icewarden, or whoever they're to meet tomorrow, is forgiving of their antics. They're seeing 22 of them after all, with Azriel acting as a sort of babysitter to them all for a nice 23. This is the counter potion! We can change back!

We need to divide this out for all of us, and we need to get the dust of something important to each one to turn back. It's incomplete, and we probably only have one shot at this.

Toothbrush was relieved such a thing existed. Being a ghost wasn't so bad, but it's dull not being seen by anyone. And lonely. That missing ingredient though... what should she use? The dust of something that is very important to her, what dust-like thing is important to her? Certainly not glitter. Oh wait, she does have an empty bottle of Primary Pigment Blend on her. She used some of it before but this time she dumped the rest of the contents into Xin's favourite spice blend, hoping for a more noticeable colour this time. Is that her answer, using the pigmented spice? It would be like a full circle moment. That or karma. She supposed that's what she deserves for hounding Xin like that. She still hasn't returned his tail jewel, for she had been holding on to it. Xin took the loss of it surprisingly well, though it might be because he's waiting for the clan leader and some of his kids to return from the Winter Games. Then he can ask them to search for it. Admittedly there is a part of her that misses him, but he has moved on and so has she. It is awkward speaking to him, so the two have avoided each other all this time, but maybe they can be friends again. It would be a good icebreaker to say that a ghost pranked her and turned her tongue into a weird colour, and that a ghost has taken her tail jewel and swapped it with his! Xin will never have to know it was her then. With that plan in mind, she heads to his kitchen to brew the potion. She's aware that he and his family are setting up a welcome home party for the athletes, but any cooking or baking will be done in the main kitchen. No one should disturb her here. She follows the recipe. Thankfully the rock is very tiny, she can probably down the potion in one gulp once it has cooled. When it's time, she takes a heaping spoonful of the pigmented spice blend, dumping it into the pot. The potion turns into a green-orange colour. It will definitely colour her tongue when she becomes corporeal. This better work.

Oh thank goodness. No more crimes, just finish up this potion and go back to normal. Nyx felt relieved until she realized that she still needed ONE MORE ingredient before being able to brew the potion.

Here goes nothing; bottom's up!

Day 7 - Saturday

Alexandrae watched the Hippalectryon go like a hatchling watching a fairy. Wonder and confusion.

Ah, brewing. Which of the mad alchemists would she impose upon... She inspected each of the ingredients curiously. The herbs smelled fresh enough, one of them even pungently so. The liquid she spent some time swishing around in its vial trying to guess what it might be. The rock she tasted. Well, only one thing left.

The trouble with being a creature of very little memory was that you didn't know things about even yourself. What was important to her, personally? Food? Clean air, a dry place to sleep. Somehow she didn't think her favourite beetlewing snacks and a cabbage leaf were going to cut it.

Eventually she stopped bothering to think and just took inventory of herself. Claws, fins, a nice long tail. Wings. Wings? She took a closer look at her supremely well camoflaged wings. No beetle ever saw her coming. She ran a claw along the edge of her butterfly-ish wing and considered the light dusting of scales. Huh! It would seem she was a better mimic that she'd thought, right down to the richly coloured scales making up her wing pattern, just like that of a butterfly.

She doesn't know if that makes her feel relieved or concerned. She's glad to not have the pressure of doing another crime today, but if he's the only one who knows how to un-ghostify her, she would sure like for him to appear. She shrugs. Might as well make the most of the situation. If he doesn't appear the next day, then she'll start to worry. Delta flies over Sornieth with a purpose in mind. She decides that she wants to visit the Ghostlight Ruins today. She's heard that the ghosts and spirits can make an excursion to the area dangerous, but since she isn't going to be bothered by that today, she figures that it's the perfect time to explore. She's always had a longing to see what really goes on inside there. Delta lights down near the entrance of the ruins. A broken archway stands ahead of her and beyond that is just dilapidated ancient buildings and structures. She can't see any ghosts currently lurking, but she knows it's only a matter of time until they show up. Maybe she'll even be able to talk to them! Delta walks forward towards the ruins. As soon as she passes over the threshold of the archway, she feels a coldness seeping down her back. Although she's been in so many dangerous places in Sornieth, she's never felt something like this before; every part of her body is screaming that she should not be here. She has to fight the urge to flee immediately and takes a shaky step forward. She's fighting off a wave of panic now and she can't explain why she feels this scared. There's no logical reason; the Ghostlight Ruins are barely any more dangerous than any other place in the Tangled Wood. She takes a deep breath and strolls forward. With every step she takes, the feeling is dissipating. It grows weaker and weaker the further she gets from the archway and the more she registers her surroundings. She suddenly feels relieved that she's incorporeal. No one can hurt her. But who would hurt her? There's no one in sight. Delta spends the next hour exploring the Ghostlight Ruins, but the feeling never fully goes away. When she finally passes back under the broken archway, an intense feeling of relief washes over her. She turns her head back towards the ruins. Maybe there was a reason people warned her about that place. It seems supernatural, but not just in the way that she is, as a ghost. It feels sinister. Like something is lurking in those stones, just as ancient as the ruins around it. She shakes her head, trying to forget the mystery that still bothers her. Now she can check that area off of her bucket list. And never step foot in it again.

After Delta waits for the ghost boss for a while, she realizes that he's probably not coming.

Task 6: The Antidote

After a week, Avalon had finally grown tired of his newfound ghostliness. The fate of those condemned to the Icewarden's prisons was a most grim one. She probably wouldn't even get visitors. But perhaps that was the threat if she didn't comply with the instructions. Nine first considered her hat. It had been placed onto a shelf in storage, the clan likely expected she'd want it on her return. It was Nine's first idea for something important to her, but while it was indeed a nice hat it didn't feel important. The Mirror wondered if another dragon could count, it was easy enough to find some stray fur or bits of scale. But using something from another dragon in a potion felt like some sort of trespass. Nine found herself floating into the library as she thought. Pausing to read some titles, she wistfully remembered a spooky adventure book by the name of A Skinful of Shadows. Naturally it had ghosts. Nine remembered hearing bits of it read aloud long ago, and it was the first bit of storytelling that she ever loved. It was probably a big part of the reason she'd spent so much of her time as a travelling companion for an author. Ziirylev had a superb reading voice. Nine found a copy in the library and, in spite of all her practice being sneaky that week, the chief librarian spotted the book and gave chase. After evading him, Nine found a discrete location for her brewing. Something about the rock seemed grounding, so she put it into the brew before the orange liquid. Herbs seemed like something that were added later, but Nine left the personal ingredient till last. There was something dramatic about that...partly because it was the step most likely to fail. Nine held up the book before the cauldron, and blew the dust off the top of the book. The Mirror waited a few seconds, gave the potion a little stir, and decanted a portion into a bottle. Nine sniffed it, gave it a little shake and then drank. A few moments passed and seemingly nothing happened. Nine sighed, and started thinking she'd need to find something else, when suddenly the Mirror was clobbered with sensation.
