Saturday - The Spire
Uriel woke to Ariel, their Bestiary Keeper, tending to the rather frustrated Arctic Hippalectryon with the satchel. There was snow everywhere, which had started to wake some of the other ghosts in their little menagerie. Couples were stirring, confusion was in the air, and all they knew was that they had a messenger of some sort with a letter for them and the ability to see them. Eventually the creature gave Uriel the bag it had been carrying, let out one final squawk to Ariel, and took off in a flurry of snow. She shouted a promise to thank the fellow later with a decent meal as everyone began to gather around their first ghost, curious about what was sent in.
This is the counter potion! We can change back!
Oku's shout was enough to get Ariel over as well, curious as they checked everything over. Old rivalries seemed to have been cast aside in favor of making sure everyone turned back to a corporeal form by tomorrow. Even Michael and Razael were smushed together trying to look into the bag! Rhian was the one to rain on their parade, however, squinting at the vial.
We need to divide this out for all of us, and we need to get the dust of something important to each one to turn back. It's incomplete, and we probably only have one shot at this.
The group looked around at each other, counting heads. Twenty. They had twenty dragons to turn back because of their shenanigans. Then it clicked that they needed to be corporeal by tomorrow. This had to be done today. There was a moment of silence, the calm before the storm, before everyone raced off, shouting what they'd do behind them. Rhian would divide everything up into portions so they could properly change back. Mikey and Zadki could get her important dust. The others were to go and get their own objects, and be careful about it.
They likely couldn't afford to change anyone else by mistake this time.
Soon enough, the group had gathered their items. Pieces of silver, pollen from a prized plant, and so much more had been gathered together in Rhian's little office in the Divided Spire. The last to arrive were Okuraz and Razael, some of the first to have been turned. They milled about in the noonday sun, gathering dust from their respective objects to eventually add to their vials. Rhian had insisted on waiting for everyone to show up, just in case accidents happened.
They waited, and waited, until suddenly they heard something near the door. They were confused at first, seeing as the couple didn't even need to use the door. Then they realized it was a pair of students gossiping about something. They were mostly worried about the fact the couple would need to find a new way in until they heard what the group were talking about.
The heads of the two Grand Scholar factions, Goldie and Luci, had vanished right in front of the students eyes in the Divided Amphitheater, the gathering hall for students and citizens of Sailuma for major events. They'd been reassuring students and citizens that they were investigating the disappearances personally, with Hochmael standing in to explain what the Ophanim were doing about it. To have two prominent figures, who had been hidden away to ensure their safety, just vanish in front of everyone... It'd be worrying if the group couldn't guess what was actually going on.
Sure enough, through the window came the couple, with Oku laughing his crest off and two very upset Imperials behind them. It was clear they'd gone to get something for the pair as well, who just seemed downright confounded by the situation. Apparently it had been Oku's idea, mostly due to his dislike of the darker Imperial. In either case, they had some work to do still.
Too bad it was just like them to be caught one last time.
The drakes explained everything they could as Rhian divided out the potion base. Twenty two entire bases to mix in dust, twenty two items with dust to turn back. The newest additions were skeptical, of course. Who wouldn't be? But Rhian seemed to know what she was doing, and she knew her magic well. And to be fair, she tied herself to both factions. She would help everyone present at the moment.
They didn't consider the attention their item gathering could catch. Floating objects, mostly belonging to the missing drakes... Of course the one that handled the deceased the most, and somewhat believed in ghosts to begin with according to the students, would be drawn to all this when he saw something floating to Rhian's room. He waited, of course. Waited for the students to leave the room alone, to move along. Maybe he encouraged them to go off to their classes. But he needed to see this for himself.
They all lifted their completed potions when the door opened, revealing Azriel. The Imperial could only stare at the group, who were all just staring back at him. They thought he'd only see floating vials and instructions. Honestly, still a disturbing sight, especially in a circle around a crystal, but better than seeing them all as ghosts. Then he spoke up.
"... Did... Did all of you really die, or is this really just an odd potion?"
It seems the rumors about him seeing the dead, or supposed dead, were confirmed. Fitting for him to be a mortician, in the end. They had a lot of explaining to do. Long enough for it to drag off into nightfall before they finally drank their potions to rest for tomorrow.
Hopefully the Icewarden, or whoever it was that'd meet them all, wouldn't be too upset with them.
Grudges will always lead to some last minute ghost turning, and Oku loves a good prank. At least they got to learn more about their undertaker Azriel. If only he hadn't been resting through the games this year. Maybe he'd have been able to help everyone from the start! Lets hope the Icewarden, or whoever they're to meet tomorrow, is forgiving of their antics. They're seeing 22 of them after all, with Azriel acting as a sort of babysitter to them all for a nice 23.
