Rhoden would eyeball the serpent as he kept its attention, gathering fruit up in his vines, tail, and claws as he did. Thorns from the vines and the spines along his tail pierced some of the fruits skin and left that strong-smelling juice dripping over him; though he paid little mind to it, instead taking flight as soon as 1. He had as many as he could carry, or 2. the serpent lunged for him.

((I decided to count both the hallway and jungle as part of the “serpent room”, as Nik has only just opened his eyes and it’d be cruel to close them all over again. Also, sorry about the wait! I was dreadfully busy))

Nikodeme hoped there would not be plaques to read in every room. He was never formally taught to read, so while others took the message word by word he had to read it letter by letter. He took as long reading it once as others would two or three times.

By then his mind was racing with all he knew about snakes. There weren't nearly as many in the wastelands as the viridian labyrinth, but he had tangled with enough shattered serpents to get a sense of how they worked inside. Their ears were internal, lacked eardrums, and relied mostly on vibrations in their skull to function. They couldn't hear airborne sounds very well, or really anything when their head was in the air, but it didn't look like that stopped their adversary. He wasn't sure what they could do about that head.

Sight and smell were more straightforward. Eyes and tongue were soft tissue, vulnerable to damage. His own magic could tear them to shreds, easy. But first he’d have to get close, real close, and using that much energy would leave him woozy.

His was still thinking while the skydancers pierced the fruit to mask their own scents. that’s one head down. He was planning where he’d fly to dowse himself when the other fae lunged forward. What was he thinking? He couldn’t possibly fend off two heads at once! The fool cant just go and get himself killed in the first room!

Nikodeme gave up on logic and planning, or even bothering to cover himself in the fruit. He beat his wings hard enough to build up speed, then froze his wings in a quieter glide that would bring him up alongside the other fae. As he dug deep within himself and started taking sudden breaths inward till his throat began to swell. Whichever head went for him first would get a facefull of concentrated poison.
