Hi there! I've been writing for maybe 17 years, something around that, and there are some things I've found that have helped me to grow as a writer.
I started out with fan fictions of my favorite shows. I still write fan fictions now and then, but I mostly do my own original stories now. Fan fiction is certainly a good way to get started! The world is already established, you know how it works, and you know the characters! Creating fan characters is also a great way to get started. Of course, you don't have to start out with fan works. If you have an original idea already, go for it!
There's also no shame in following the same formulas that appeal to you. If there's an author whose writing style you admire, write like them if you wish! Eventually, with enough practice, you'll develop your own style and get a feel of what works and what doesn't work for you.
Write for yourself, always. When I started out, I wrote what I wanted to read. Sometimes I do struggle with this, though, I want the approval of my creative friends. But in the end remember that you write because it's something you love to do, whether as a hobby or even a profession.
Even if it's something you want to publish or post publicly, remember that it's for you. You will draw an audience, there will be people who like your stuff. Likewise, there will be people who don't like your stuff. While nobody's content is above criticism, there's a difference between constructive criticism and just plain rudeness. Be open to feedback that is actually meant to be helpful, you can improve and learn a lot by applying helpful suggestions. As for those who are giving negative feedback just for the sake of being negative, don't worry about them. It's not for them. When it comes down to it, it's still for you.
And don't be afraid to ask questions, we've all had to start somewhere. Sometimes just talking to another writer can be the push you need to keep going.
That's about all I can think of off the top of my head. If you ever wanna talk more in depth about writing, feel free to send a message my way any time. You might also find some writing groups on the forums, though I myself haven't really looked for them, but it may be something you'll want to look into. If you know what you're looking for, there are also a lot of helpful resources on the internet that go beyond prompts. I often find some good resources and references on tumblr, which has a vast writing community.
I hope this was somewhat useful, good luck! :)
