I've been putting my Gathering turns into Digging in Plague, but I haven't turned up a single chest yet. Likewise, last month I don't think I got any chests from Gathering. I remember a few years back they dropped a lot more frequently. Did something change, or is it just my luck?

WyvernVenom It's all just luck. Random Number Generators
are random. So it does not account for if you've gotten the Things (tm) yet when generating your loot. I didn't get any plague currency for my first ten gathering turns today, for example. I generally only get one chest per holiday from digging using all my turns.

In case anyone feels hard done by, it's never been a way of getting all or most of the skins. 0-2 chests (usually 1) has been standard from Y1.

It's definitely changed imo. I used to get at least 3 per festival, lately I've been lucky to get 1

and this is exactly why i think that its genuinely all just rng. i have exact opposite experiences. i didnt get any skin chests from digging [i]ever[/i] (with exception of one skin in my first year) until past few years (and i have been here since 2013), and now i get usually just one or two per fest.
also staff would have announced if they had tweaked the skin chest droprates significantly.

As already noted here, it's just a case of luck, they have a very slim chance of dropping. So not getting any is pretty common.
I've gotten one this month, so they are dropping. But it's also maybe the 6th one I've gotten
