- buy them with real money
- keep your dragons fed for the daily bonus (1 gem per day)
- sell items/dragons in the Auction house for gems
- Buy from other players in the Items for Sale Forum for treasure (trade ratio fluctuates based on demand)
- Bond with familars to get Iron and gold decorative chests
- Randomly obtained from exalting dragons
- Special chests dropped from certain Coliseum Venues (will have "something jingles inside" in the description)

If you keep your dragons well fed you will start getting 1 gem a day! Even if you don't log in everyday you will still recieve gems. It takes 3 days for a user to lose the well-fed bonuses. So if you log in every-other day to feed your dragons that works too!
The other ways to get gems on site:
The fastest way to get gems is to trade with other players! You can sell items or dragons for gems to other players on the Auction House. You can trade treasure for gems in the items for sale forum. You can sell art, writing, and other services for gems.
