TOPIC | tell me about your ttrpg characters!
so, I love DnD a lot. like, a lot. my dad played my first campaign with me and my sister when I was 8 (and she was 5 LOL) and since then I never stopped loving it.

I could ramble about my characters for hours on end and just love making new ones so much, so I thought, maybe here omn Flight Rising I find other nerd who love their characters - DnD or other games - just as much and want me to tell about them!

Let's start with the one I'm currently playing, Flora. she is a Satyr who grew up living a pretty normal satyr-life, in a small village/camp in the forest. (un)fortunately, some day she wandered off alone and ended up very close to some kind of ancient magical energy breaking free from... somewhere. she could not really see what was happening, but essentially a wave of shadow magic rushed over her and corrupted her thoroughly - making her a shadow sorcerer. dark purple markings appeared on her fur, moving ever so slightly. it also changed her on the inside, making her feel removed from the living, but the dead too. it's like floating in the inbetween forever, her heartbeat slowed down so much it now sometimes surprises her to feel a single heartbeat happen once every few minutes.
that much about her (honestly not too deep lol) backstory. my group is currently at level 5, so it will finally become more interesting to play her - I like mid to high level a lot more than low level, fight me xD luckily our whole group agrees, including our dm, so for example we will soon start a campaign with characters already at level 10, which will be so freaking much fun!! anyway, I love Flora and I love playing damage dealers, and she's already pretty epic in fights. another thing I love is that satyrs naturally have magic resistance (advantage on saving throws against spells and magical effects) which is honestly very overpowered, but I love it u.u

onto a different character: Istasha (yes, I used the name I have as a username here lol. it also became my go-to online name over time, but it originally was the name of that character). Istasha is an Eldritch Knight and her race is mystic catfolk: basically a furry cat (I picture her as a panther) witch dark, mostly black, fur and purple eyes. they naturally know some magic (one cantrip from the wizard spell list), and that combined with choosing the Shadow Touched feat (which grants the Invisibilty spell plus one other 1st level spell of my choice, but it must be from the necromancy or illusion school of magic) gave me some extra magical power, which I really benifit from. because you know, Eldritch Knights are extremely limited in their spell choices and these two factors combined gave me some more freedom. I later on also chose the feat Fey Touched, which granted me even more magical freedom. she is currently at level 14 which is honstly pretty sick - she can finally cast Fireball! - and survived (most of) the Curse of Strahd campaign (oh god the horrors). I absolutely love her and will for sure play her in other settings, if those settings allow me to.
she has a backstory too, but I'm too lazy to type that out right now, cause it's pretty long but still pretty basic honestly lol

then there's Katla, she's the reason why Istasha only survived most of Strahd: Katla came before her and died pretty early on in the campaign :( rip my dragon girl. she was a dragonborn paladin, I think Oath of Vengeance, but not sure right now. I did like playing her but I think if I ever play a paladin again, I'd want to play an Oathbreaker if my dm allows it.

and now the character which I will play next, starting with a oneshot next weekend and then - if I actually like playing her, Idk yet - in the campaign we'll start soon.
Her name is Asteria and she's a Circle of the Stars druid. I am super excited to play her but am also a bit skeptical: I've always loved damage dealers and therefore always ever played those, so she will be my first kinda-support, so... we will see. but I love her aesthetic: not only is a star druid very Aesthetic to begin with, she's also a Winter Wolfborn (homebrew race I found online), which is basically a white furry wolf with some blue streaks in her fur - and she has a cold breath weapon! so pretty much a white dragonborn but Cooler because... I love werewolves, okay? She doesn't have any backstory yet, but... hello, the aesthetic?????? white starry werewolf??? excUSE ME??? anyway ya I already love her so much. also her magical focus thingy is a ******* crystal which works as a starmap when light shines through it. so cool!!

and last but not least, honarary mentions to my currently two Baldur's Gate 3 characters: Lilith, who is (or, was, since I finished the playthrough with her) a Tiefling Storm Sorcerer. I romanced Shadowheart with her u.u
and my current one, which is a durge playthrough: Kali, also a Tiefling and Oathbreaker paladin with two levels in warlock, for those extra spellslots (we love smiting). she is Not Nice and I love playing her lmao

okay, that's it for my ramble, now let me her yours!! ^^

and again, doesn't matter if you play dnd, pathfinder or whatever else, I want to hear about them all! (just note that I am only familiar with the dnd 5e/BG3 system atm)

I'm currently in a Labyrinth TTRPG group (yes, as in based on the movie Labyrinth), and I've really fallen in love with my character in that setting!
her name is Hirvi (Finnish for moose, because of the same joke that's also behind my clan message), she's a Horned Beast with antlers like a moose, and she can control plants. she's forgetful, which has caused some funny moments so far, and is surprisingly good at sneaking around, which has come in handy a few times already! Hirvi is agreeable and smart, but needs a moment to think things through before she can voice her thoughts. she's more of an observer than an action-taker in new situations, unless she knows there's something she can do. she usually stays quiet in conversations and will suggest action when action is needed. her forgetfulness mostly relates to objects; when presented with three or more objects or locations of objects, she'll end up forgetting or getting confused about some of them. she's happy to leave big decisions to the rest of the group and acts as a sort of voice of reason because of her natural caution around strange situations.

other than Hirvi, I've also had Avenor (Human Paladin, in a DnD5e-based homebrew that I sadly lost most of my notes for and really want to rework someday) and Cobalt (Dragonborn Paladin, in the Dragons of Stormwreck Isle 5e starter set). I have a few more characters, but Cobalt and Avenor were the only ones who got to feature in a campaign, so I'm only going to talk about them:

Cobalt is a Blue Dragon and a Paladin of Bahamut. Cobalt is not his birth name, he officially adopted the name after he became a Paladin, though it's been his nickname for a long time because of his cobalt-blue scales. he has noble heritage, but willingly gave up on his title to become a Paladin. he's on a pilgrimage to visit all temples to Bahamut and learn how the faith is practiced in other regions. the Stormwreck Isle setting is based around the conflict between Chromatic and Metallic dragons, so Cobalt's backstory is that he chose to follow Bahamut to prove that Chromatic and Metallic dragons did not need to be enemies. he dislikes killing but will do it if it's absolutely necessary, and he will generally do what he thinks will be best for the situation overall, without letting his own wishes or preferences cloud his judgment... unless he holds a grudge against one of the parties involved, in which case he can't remain impartial.

Avenor is honestly my favorite character I've created for any campaign, though I might be biased bc he's from my own homebrew campaign I ran with my partner. his backstory is related to one of the major plot beats I was planning so I'll avoid going into detail. he's a lord who became a Paladin to have an excuse to be away from his family. his family name is Aesys, a name that is involved with a lot of... conflicting information. let's just keep it at that. he never gives out his family name because of this, and his own involvement in the situation is unclear. personality-wise he comes across as standoffish and grumpy, but is kind of a softie underneath, and can always be trusted to make well thought out decisions. unfortunately he didn't get a lot of character development before I lost my notes, much of his character arc was supposed to happen when his family's situation was going to be addressed. if/when I redo that campaign, I'll definitely bring him back as my player character.

I have a couple. I write them far better than I actually play them
  • Magpie "Maggie" Blackfeather

A prideful, puzzling, and forward High elf divinatory wizard from Waterdeep who studied alongside the brightest minds in the city and had a lot of promise and prestige to her name-- until she was expelled from University and excommunicated from the scholarly circles she had been in for falsifying evidence. Magpie has a large chip on her shoulder from the event and refuses to bring it up, though she will still talk ad nauseum of Waterdeep and the importance of scholastics in of itself. What she had been attempting to study and prove simply hadn't had enough evidence for it, and though she knows it to be true (I haven't fully worked out what I want it to be, sadly) she was pressed against a wall to have something to verify her beliefs. Now exiled from her former position, she is...helping with uncovering the mystery of the falling of Elturel into the Nine Hells. During the campaign she is flooded with visions that, alongside her deep thirst for knowledge and to redeem her name, sway her moral compass to questionable locations. Let's just say I was very shocked when I found out that what I planned for Magpie's arc was very very similar to Marcille's arc in later chapters of Dungeon Meshi.
  • Ego

The product of a careless primordial deity that is beside itself in tumult due to a waning of faithful. To be fair, Barovia is not the best place for any deity to want to be worshipped-- the people there have bigger worries such as Count Strahd than to fuss over faith-- a plasmoid made of pond scum named Ego is born as an abyssal warlock to strike fear into people to gain more followers. Along the journey of her party, she begins to question her purpose, the point of life in general, and the essence of a living thing. Covertly sympathetic toward Strahd's curse of immortality, ego yearns to live an unchained life as much as she wishes to have a restful death, but worries she might not as she becomes what is basically the mouthpiece of this once revered god.
  • (Dis)honorable mention: Gila

A half elf who was beast barbarian. Her story is that she is the product of a lineage of cursed cult worshippers. Her parents disparage all magic due to it blah blah blah. I say dishonorable because I wish I had had more time to think over her character (and that the campaign hadn't been cut abruptly though that is neither here nor there). I would love to run her in the future, maybe combine her and other character ideas I have, I'm just very sad she did not work out</3
  • Rapid fire mode: The Shrike

Originally a character made for my own worldbuilding project, I would love to play her in an actual campaign. I would probably play her as a fighter or paladin who is constantly adorned in her culture's armor (which is designed to resemble various birds). As for her story I'm not sure, I've thought of many things, but they don't seem to scratch the itch I have. I enjoy writing a lot of misery that arises from a character wanting something so desperately that their entire life crumbles from without it (or from obtaining said goal). Hopefully I can find a way to do that with her!

The last dnd campaign I played was a short zombie apocalypse story and I got way to attached to my rouge so I hope you all enjoy about hearing about him (he lived I just miss playing with him)

His name is Edaci and hes a half drow phantom rouge. He's a bit of a selfish *****, motivated by money, food, and entertainment (at least until the apocalypse puts all those morals into question)

That being said, hes not totally heartless and he heavily values those hes close too, even if that is a very select group of people.

You're typical street criminal trying to find his place in the world, turned chosen one, turned failed savior, turned zombie fighter (character development goes crazy)

He also finds a magic carpet during the campaign and uses it like a flying skateboard its my favorite thing ever

I've played three so far and two of them only briefly. Might rework them into something else later. But first, let's start with the one I got to stick with for a while. Eule, a copper dragonborn barbarian. (Also the only one I've made art of so far. Though I can't find the shaded version of the picture at the moment.) In her early life, she grew up in a forest and eventually adopted by a human monster hunter. He taught her, not just about monster hunting, but also aboput how to somewhat function in society at least. She can even read a bit and do simple math, at least enough to know that a client isn't screwing her over. He also gave her her name. Due to her habit of taking the night watch and perching on a tree, listening to the tiniest sounds, he compared her to an owl (Eule menas 'owl' in my language'). Her 'graduation' was tagging along to an owlbear hunt and surviving, which she did with flying colours. In the end, she wanted to take a trophy, an owlbear feather, to wear and show of her skills. However, she forgot and, on the way back, picked up a pigeon feather in its stead. Good enough. Back in town, her teacher left her some weapons: javelins and - her favourite - axes. They then parted ways. That's it for the backstory. The campaign itself was fun and there have been lots of shenanigans, including her getting turned blue for a while after fighting a slime that had consumed too many different magic potions, briefly becoming a giant rabbit, refusing to sleep in beds as much as possible in favour of trees, making a veil from a fresh rabbit pelt, trying to obtain a little pet raptor because she related to tiny snappy birdlike beasts, winning a plush bear for a party member who always wanted a a bear mount, and much more. And she ate a lot of weird things, including raw dragon, soup containing human meat (though she might've been oblivious to that), and beer containing bacon. One notable thing, that descibes her character well, is when the DM tried to give her a love interest. She met a copper dragonborn nobleman who was immediately interested in her refreshingly rough ways. She, however, had no idea what he was getting at, but she liked him well enough because he frequently invited her for food. After some time of witnessing that, the party finally hinted at her what his intentions actually were. She still did not get it. She got 'the talk' at a library via a book with many pictures, but, while she found that interesting for sure, she wasn't convinced that this has anything to do with her. The nobleman took her to a fancy restaurant, where she ate clams (shell and all), and later towhat was essentially a fast food place, which she liked better because of the actually decent portion sizes. He asked her if she could see spending time with someone in the future, to which she responeded that sure she could, with her best friends of course (meaning the rest of the party). After explaining what he meant, she remembered everything she had learned, and gave him a chance. In a duel. Because after all, what good would a partner be that couldn't fight? Probably luckily for him, the party managed to leave the place before any duels. She never minded that. After all, she was with her best friends, and what more could she want? And now for the other ones. Again, these haven't had much action so they're closer to to the concept phase. Ibyk, an aarakocra monk. An ambassador who is really fascinated by the ground-dwelling races and wants to learn more about them. While friendly and helpful towards them, he still has to get over thinking of them as lesser species. He's also prone to accidentally scaring humanoids, because he looks like a harpy eagle, which can be slightly uncanny valley if seen head-on. He's oblivious to that, thinking they're just in awe of him. Klink (or, more accurately, *insert the sound of a hammer striking metal here*), a kenku artificer. He believes anything can be possbile, with the right tools. Including flying. One day, he will build a flying machine. Coming up with one one is hard, hoever, since his main skill is replicating already existing things, with maybe slight upgrades. But still, every new knicknack he creates might help him further along his goal. All around good guy, except he might steal parts he needs, because they're there and no one is currently using them. I also have a lot of unplayed concepts floating around, but this post is long enough as it is.

I'm currently playing a new Wildemount (Critical Role) based DnD game and my character is a Xhorhasian brass dragonborn named Ingeir who is a trickster cleric! She currently is after a Luxon Beacon to return it to the Kryn Dynasty and restore her family's honor, but the Dynasty is enemies of the current setting in the campaign... so we're being a little sneaky right now.

She's a bunch of my favorite things mashed together and like playing her so far!

While I have been apart of campaigns I've barely gotten to play any of my characters either with the campaign stopping very early on or it not starting in general so everyone I have is kind of in a weird limbo right now, where they just belong to a folder on my computer permanently. But here are my favorites that I've made that I hope will see the light of day! This is Freddy! He's my 7 foot barbarian firbolg and he was made for a modern world type campaign. He's a pretty chill guy, he works at a bakery for most of his income but he also does photography! His lore had to do with a lot of supernatural/cryptid stuff (which was the norm in the world he was made for) so when he was a few years younger he had one of his legs ripped off after an accidental run in with the towns cryptid, which only came out at night in the trail park there. Now he has a cool prosthetic and constant nightmares about what happened that day and if that creature came back to finish him off. That's as far as I got for him, i had a major thing planned where he was going to be possessed but it never started. He's still my silly guy, he's probably my favorite character I've made. (He's also the only one im going to supply a picture for bc finding the rest of them is a paint :") next is Vincent Grimm, or Vinny, is a sorcerer who was a notorious pirate character I made a while ago. His backstory changed quite a bit so I don't have a good point of reference for it now but he formed a crew called the Banshee's and was sailing to find a cursed artifact that would raise their bounty astronomically. Did I mention that he is a 5'5" little ball of anger issues? He would eventually be separated from his crew and be forced to disguise himself, which proved fairly easy since he hinds his identity as a pirate captain. Then he was to find and trick a few people into being a makeshift crew in order to either find the artifact, return to his crew, or both. these next few im just gonna rapid fire: - Rudy: A pink and white tiefling ringmaster who lures people into his circus in order to steal something thats apart of them, to appease a higher up so he can get his real life back. - David: A vampire who leads a cult and uses his cult members as food for himself. - Wayne: A dragonborne druid (Did not get very far into writing much for him)
