i've always put american cheese on mine since that's all my mom did... and pickles. and mayo. might be why i despise grilled cheeses now. and i don't like mustard.

what kind of cheese do y'all recommend? putting tomatoes on it sounds good too. i want to like grilled cheese sandwiches again ;-;

^ Mild cheddar, gouda, and provolone are all really good. Thick slices work best, and provolone would probably go good with tomato. If we're talking honey mustard and smoked gouda, then that's the only way I'll eat a grilled cheese with mustard [emoji=spiral tongue size=1]

My favorite is colby jack and cheddar! It's even better if you butter the outside of the bread before you grill it. Feta and provolone is also surprisingly amazing if you want an Italian-ish taste.

My dad used to make these cheese sandwiches with mustard (Although I can't remember if they were grilled or not, I just remember eating sandwiches with several thick slices of cheddar cheese and mustard in them). I don't see why mustard wouldn't taste as good on an actual grilled cheese.:P

also, at everyone discussing american cheese on white bread for grilled cheese... ew, tbh. cheddar all the way, on a nice thick multigrain bread

I’ve never tried it, but I do like ham and mustard sandwiches, so I could see the appeal. It’d have to be proper hand-sliced/grated cheese, though, not the pre-sliced North American Kraft cheese. Kraft grilled cheese sandwiches are good dipped in Canadian ketchup (since it’s very sweet) or tomato soup, but I think they’d be gross with mustard on them.

As a Canadian, what the heck is American Cheese? That Kraft-brand pre-sliced stuff?

Either way, this sounds awful lol keep mustard far away from me!

Hmm, I wouldn't want to try it personally, but I do like mustard on other things. I'd prefer mayo on grilled cheese myself.
