the maned wolf looks like a fox and is named after a wolf but its actually its own thing entirely!

okapis have zebra looking stripes but are more closely related to giraffes!

this is a mouse deer and they have fangs! it seems like the ones with pale stripes or spots are referred to as chevrotains

Oh the blood worm reminds me of another polycheate, the branching sponge worm. It’s like a mythical hydra, except reversed. It’s got lots o’ butts, lol. I’m sorry, it’s just wonderfully wacky though.

mouse deer are some of The. Weirdest. Creatures. I have ever seen. they walk along on those stick legs like its nothing, like its no big deal, and they are ANCIENT we are talking living fossils here, whats up with that

innocuous, yes? WRONG hyraxes are so bizarre because they look like rodents or...something adjacent, at least? but no, these guys are actually closer related to elephants and manatees. they also can't properly regulate their body heat, so they have to huddle at night
I love quolls...tiger quolls have the best mention because their stripes are so stylish

the pig nosed turtle or fly river turtle (both really good names) is the only freshwater turtle to possess flippers and swim like a sea turtle (the only extant one, anyway)! theyre just really neat, a lot of freshwater turtles have that little snorkel of a nose but it's so cute on these guys
and then of course...the shining star of our show

little dragonfish. tbh all Syngnathids are very bizarre (male pipefish are the ones who get pregnant, but did you know they also possess the ability to cut resources off to the developing embryos if they spot a more desirable female), but these little guys...are so neat. they've got ARMOR to make them look like LITTLE SHELLS and they've got those adorable little faces, I just think theyre really cool. plus their scientific name is [i]Eurypegasus draconis[/i] and that is baller
b sure to show design specs when theyre done, if you want!! I think it sounds really neat
