That's a white hickory tussock moth caterpillar! We have them where I live too (also east coast US). Be careful, they cause a reaction in some people due to their itchy hairs and can be toxic! I personally aren't bothered by them but be careful interacting with the little guys :) They DO have chemical defenses so birds don't eat them and stuff but they DO NOT transmit disease. They turn into moths!

kinda looks like a mix of 1 and 4
