(CW: Death, roadkill, sad)

So yesterday as I was riding home with my dad from an outdoors enthusiasts meet, I saw not one but two crows that had almost certainly been hit by cars, within a 15 mile radius of one another. Before that point, I had only ever seen one other (possibly) roadkilled crow in my entire life (about a month ago, but that one's cause of death was a little dubious because I couldn't find any obvious injuries and it was a young bird that had lesions from what appeared to be avian pox; it was just off the side of the road a few feet). One of the dead crows I encountered yesterday was slightly piebald (the flight feathers had white splotching in the centers that gradiated out to the normal black color; unfortunately I didn't get any pictures, I just wanted to move it to a safe resting spot without handling it too much -- also DON'T WORRY, I used oodles of hand sanitizer afterward).

Does anyone have any idea if this is normal/what could be causing this many crows to be killed by cars so (relatively) close together?? Is it just bad luck? I've NEVER seen a roadkilled crow in my entire life before this past month, and the two killed so close together on the same day/around the same time seems really fishy/suspicious to me. Could someone have purposefully tried to hit them? Could there be an illness going around? I saw no sign of avian pox on the piebald crow yesterday, and I didn't get to look at the other one up close because it was right in the middle of a very busy road. I'm just....really concerned, and kind of heartbroken about it.

There are diseases that can cause bird to drop out of the sky. There could be an outbreak of something in your area. If you notice unusual bird deaths, you can always send in a fresh (it must be very fresh if you want good test results) to your state lab for a necropsy. You can contact your local state lab and ask if there is an outbreak of anything, they will know usually.
