Hello Coli adventurers,
Do you want to grind in the Golem Workshop but struggle with it? Are you tired of seeing your dragons succumb to the bosses? Look no further: I present you with the solution which finally made me able to grind without a single defeat!
What you want is - a Fire battlemage/healer!
This build is cheap and easy to put together. The builds of my dragons are based on Maki's guide, and my mage was then customized starting from there. So, without further ado, let's see the stats and stones!
STR 5 / AGI 8 / DEF 7 / QCK 40 / INT 130 / VIT 25 / MND 5
ES: Meditate
AbS: Contuse, Concentration, Sear, Aid
AugS: Scholar x 3
AccS: Ambush x2
This mage is built with Forbidden Portal stats just to have more INT, and is meant to accompany two 133 STR farmers, as per Maki's guide. The STR dragons don't have to yet be complete to make the build work; while Eliminate for both is essential, it's enough for one dragon to have Haste and preferable (but not necessary) to have one Rally.
While obviously any mage can use Aid efficiently, here are the three reasons why you want a Fire mage:
What you want to happen when you encounter one of the GW bosses is this sequence of events:
The combination depends on how much Breath and what stones your dragons have at the moment. It also depends on which boss you encounter. The important thing is to cast Haste on the mage, as this will grant them more turns to build Breath as a healer or attack with Sear and Contuse.
As for the bosses:
I really hope this will help you out! I have accumulated hours upon hours of GW grinding thanks to this setup, without missing a beat.
Best of luck!

While obviously any mage can use Aid efficiently, here are the three reasons why you want a Fire mage:
- Fire is strong against both bosses of the Kelp Beds as well, which enables you to turn the mage into a strong farmer/leveling helper there.
- Fire is strong against one of the GW bosses (Frost Delver).
- Most importantly: the status effect inflicted by Sear, the INT elemental attack for Fire, is to amplify physical damage received by the target. When activated, the Sear effect will serve as a further buff to your STR dragons.
What you want to happen when you encounter one of the GW bosses is this sequence of events:
- Mage uses Meditate 2 times / Meditate and Concentration / Concentration and Sear or Contuse
- Warrior 1 casts Haste on mage and Haste/Rally on self or 2
- Warrior 2 casts Haste on 1 and self / Haste and Rally on self / Rally on 1 and self
The combination depends on how much Breath and what stones your dragons have at the moment. It also depends on which boss you encounter. The important thing is to cast Haste on the mage, as this will grant them more turns to build Breath as a healer or attack with Sear and Contuse.
As for the bosses:
- Frost Delver: as this boss is weak to fire, Concentration + Sear is usually what I put all my mage's Breath into. Of course you can use Contuse on it at the start, so that its physical damage on your dragons is reduced. However, the Delver melts so fast with buffed Sear that I don't even see it as necessary.
- Stone Borer: this boss is resistant to Fire, which means your first attack will always be a Contuse to protect your STR fighters. Concentration is not any use here, so you can save that turn to build Breath. After the first move, you can choose whether to use your mage as a healer only or - if you can afford the Breath - to try casting Sear and inflicting the status effect on the boss, to help out your warriors.
I really hope this will help you out! I have accumulated hours upon hours of GW grinding thanks to this setup, without missing a beat.
