Yes, you get 1 gem per day, also 5 gathering turns, 250 treasure and 15% battle experience (you can hover the mouse over the energy bar from the right top corner to see the bonuses).

I have one more question actually. When someone replies to you in a forum, you get a notification. Well, the notification has two links - one to the person's profile and the other to the first page of the thread. It doesn't direct you to the person's post, so do you have to manually search for it each time?

Unfortunately this is how notifications work at the moment - there are some threads in the Suggestions Forum regarding this problem, like this one:
