Flight Rising Discussion

Discuss everything and anything Flight Rising.
TOPIC | [PSA] Users Online and the Guest Counter
You might have noticed Flight Rising has had an increase in guests in recent months, with Users Online displaying upwards of 15k guests. There's a reason for that and we're here to shed some light on this situation for you.

Users Online

Flight Rising has an unusually sensitive Users Online counter. It picks up and displays every site visitor — from real people stopping by to check us out, to our community tending to their dragons, to someone's first web spider crawling by indexing our site for a coding project. But the introduction of generative and large language models has meant a sharp, sustained increase in visitors to our site.

Why Flight Rising?

This isn't a unique situation to Flight Rising. The web crawlers for these generative and large language models are all over the public internet, scraping data for their models. What is unique to Flight Rising is our guest counter, both that we have a public-facing counter and that it's as sensitive as it is to web traffic. With our guest counter you're basically getting a glimpse into what's happening behind the scenes on every public website on the internet.

What Can Be Done?

We don't like this and we don't want this either. These models are not "AI" as we understand artificial intelligence to be from science-fiction. They're either image generators or language generators coded to generate output based on stolen work and data.

We'd love to share with you the steps we're taking, but doing so would be counterproductive. Transparency here would communicate how we're trying to protect our site to a tech space that's currently unregulated and unrestrained.

We will continue to monitor, investigate, and do what we need to do to protect our website, game, and community.
