Claws scrabble against root and rock as Raushan flees, confident that the Florons are still hot on his tail. The flowered canopy is thick overhead, brightly colored branches scribbled together that shimmering green wings cannot find enough space to get airborne no matter how high he can jump, and climbing trees was never his strong suit. There’s another snarl from behind and Raushan leaps for the air out of reflex only to slip on the damp ground. The next thing he knows, he’s tumbling down. Not so much gliding as truly falling, further and further, tail over wings, until his back connects painfully with solid ground.

A groan rumbles past scaled lips as the pain subsides from a rather graceless landing. Suddenly, it feels like the ground shifts beneath him. Green eyes flash open to take in the surroundings. By chance, it appears he managed to land on a relatively smooth outcropping of stones. Nothing is moving here, thankfully. No Petalmane Floron or Flowering Pohips to chase him further off the path. Not that Raushan had been on the path, per se, but he hadn’t really wandered that far away from Leylea and the others. With a moment to catch his breath and tend his wounds, Raushan looks at the surrounding trees in the hopes to glean some sense of direction and get back to the group. He tips a healing potion back while musing on the Garden’s Beastclans. I’ll need to make a successful hunt on the way back to save face with--

The rocks beneath his claws shift again. Gone is the confidence he imagined it the first time. Thankfully, the grey stones settle quickly and he does not have to manage an impromptu rockslide. Stone grates on stone and the sound sends a shiver down his spine as Raushan turns his head. He doesn’t need to look far. In fact, he’s pretty sure it’s looking at him. A large eye blinks as what seems to be a sphere of agate focuses on his face, the movements matched perfectly by the sound of grating stone. Raushan watches his own crest of feathers wilt in his reflection on the eye. All sense of direction or worry about the Florons disappears as Raushan locks eyes with something far bigger than he’s ever seen before. And Raushan does what any brave Wildclaw from the Sanctum would do when faced with such an opponent like this. He runs.

Roots, rocks, and trees melt into one another as Raushan’s mind is focused purely on putting as much distance between himself and whatever creature he’d just disturbed. By sheer luck and panic, the Wildclaw manages to stumble upon the main path what feels like an eternity later, several Dragons within sight.

Leylea stretches to her full height before her dark green form slithers over, long paradise plumes swaying dramatically with every head movement. “There you are,” she speaks slowly, a note of relief in her voice. “Where did you go?”

The words get stuck in his throat as the ground trembles and the forest becomes a cacophony of noise. The groan and crash of trees mixes with the breaking of countless branches and roots. Cries from Foxes and Fauns swell in the distance. Raushan’s voice is small even to his own ears. “There’s something out there.”
