Curious if anyone else has the same opinion than me on this. Sometimes I like to imagine new genes in my head, and something I found while doing so and when scrying dragons is that there seems to be nearly no tertiary genes who display on the wings only. Going by modern genes alone, we have:
Genes that only color the body of the dragon:
[item=tertiary gene: Capsule][item=tertiary gene: Firebreather][item=tertiary gene: Glimmer][item=tertiary gene: Glowtail][item=tertiary gene: Okapi][item=tertiary gene: Runes][item=tertiary gene: Spines][item=tertiary gene: Underbelly]
Genes that color both body and wings:
[item=tertiary gene: Circuit][item=tertiary gene: Contour][item=tertiary gene: Crackle][item=tertiary gene: Filigree][item=tertiary gene: Firefly][item=tertiary gene: Flecks][item=tertiary gene: Gembond][item=tertiary gene: Keel][item=tertiary gene: Koi][item=tertiary gene: Lace][item=tertiary gene: Opal][item=tertiary gene: Points][item=tertiary gene: Polkadot][item=tertiary gene: Ringlets][item=tertiary gene: Smirch][item=tertiary gene: Smoke][item=tertiary gene: Soap][item=tertiary gene: Sparkle][item=tertiary gene: Stained][item=tertiary gene: Thylacine][item=tertiary gene: Veined][item=tertiary gene: Wish]
Genes that mostly color the body, but a bit of the wings:
[item=tertiary gene: Ghost][item=tertiary gene: Scales]

[item=tertiary gene: Peacock]
I think potential new genes that cover the wings and not the body would be a cool addition because we don't have any right now! It could also help save some scries where the secondary color is the undesirable one by hiding it a little the same way you can do with stuff like Okapi and Underbelly. Because wings make up most of the surface on dragons it could also allow for some really funky looking displays by layering genes, the same way you can do with say, Blend and Polkadot:

The ancients brought some cool ideas that tend this way like Batty, Riot or Plumage, but due to how linebreaking these are it would be hellish to give to moderns. I've been kind of blanking myself on what genes to invent for that niche, but two ideas that came to mind were some fake eye spots some birds have (althought admittedly we already have Peacock, AND a proper Eyespot), and glowing stuff based on one of the genes seen in early dev streams that made it ingame. And because I'm a sucker for animal patterns, more stuff like Polkadot and Thylacine, but based on insects/birds with cool wings maybe!

I'd also love to have more modern genes that utilize the accent color!
Peacock, Opal , Soap, Filigree and Koi are literally the only ones.
And ALL but Peacock are gem genes !
YXY's are seriously suffering from this. At least we got more options for ancients. But moderns? I almost always use Peacock here because it's the only good option.

capsule has accent colours too, but still agreed that we need wayyy more!
(also agree with this whole thread, I'd like something like that!)

Y'know the part of ringlets that covers the wing? I want genes that cover that specific part of the wing(for lack of a better word, the wrist part of the wing). Like topcoat but for that specific area(since a lot of secondary genes that use accent colors don't do much with that part, or have less of the accent in that spot, like Sarcophagus, Lode, etc...).

Obsessed with being nice.
Likes positive attention

I agree! We need more versatile modern tertiaries that aren't gem genes. It's so frustrating to find genes at times. I'd love something that incorporated the tertiary color to an extent like topcoat does.

Yes! You should post ot in Suggestions, it's a great idea!

absolutely yes on needing more accent coloured genes
personaly. I preffer terts that are more so even (opal, smoke, koi, flecks) on dragon (or cover more "points", like okapi, runes. less so fan of stuff like glowtail, or carnivore tho I do like carnivore esp for accent coloura) - but tert that is more on wing would be neat

if linebreakers are taken into consideration there actually is a tert I can think of that affects the wings/secondary area exclusively in the form of spectre for sandsurges. it's ONLY present on their fins and eyebrows while leaving the body untouched
but as for genes that moderns can also have I always did find it a bit odd that aside from peacock, nothing really highlights the wings without affecting the body as well. would be interesting to see a gene that accomplishes this in the future

This is why I end up using Capsule in 99% of my scries lol.
We should get some wing tert genes eventually though, I kinda get why we haven't because it's a very small amount of real estate on the dragon - and there's some dragons where the wings are even smaller than normal too, so the secondary and tert would quickly get very crowded! Snappers and Spirals come to mind specifically. But there are some dragons who MOSTLY have wing space too, like Imperials and Fathoms, so it'd be nice to see variety for their sake. Plus you could make up for a bad secondary this way.

There's something strange about this book. If only you could put a talon on it...

As Recallback said, some breeds do have small wings, but some breeds have pretty small bodies! Fae have big wings and pretty small bodies, so more wing–centred tertiary genes would be a lot better for breeds similar to these.
