I've had this lady for 7 years and I haven't named her yet, mainly because I haven't settled on genes for her. If I am not 100% on the way the dragon looks, I don't bother naming.

Obviously she will eventually be named!

I know this isn't @ me but man it sure fell like a callout at first lmao
(I'm joking)
I have 4 or 5 permanent dragons in my lair that are still unnamed. One of which I've had for almost two years I think now? And he's still unnamed. I usually find good names for dragons right away, but other times it stumps me and I am unable to find one, and I don't want to give them a placeholder name because... because I don't like doing that.
They're all obviously permas so I get why someone may be confused. They're just waiting until I find the perfect name for them.

i take a (very) long time thinking up names, that both suits them and i like the sound of. i don't like overly-used/common sounding names, but i don't like them too complicated either. ^^"
If you take a look at how the majority of my dragons are named you'll know... I take inspiration from a friend of mine who has even crazier names for his dragons and sometimes I'll take ages just to name one
doesn't mean I don't want to keep the dragon though haha

I'm neurodivergent and also really indecisive (maybe the two are related, idk) so trying to figure out the perfect name for a dragon can sometimes take a LOT of mental energy for me. Mental energy that I may not necessarily have when I first get a dragon. Sometimes if I'm having a particularly rough time outside of FR, it might take me weeks or months (or years?) to get around to naming a dragon.
I know it seems weird to other people that something as simple/easy as deciding on a name for an imaginary creature could take that much time and effort but that is just how my brain be sometimes.

Once you name a dragon, it can never go back to "unnamed" again. "Unnamed" is kind of special in that way. I always think carefully if I want a dragon to have a name before I name it. I always name fodder.

Idk, I like the way it looks, and it's especially nice with the old dragons (which I collect) because they managed to stay unnamed for such a long time and I don't want to spoil it. So far I have 20 Unnamed perma-dragons, and the oldest will be 9 years old in three weeks.
I stopped naming or renaming dragons a long time ago. They stay the exact way they come to my lair naming-wise because in my lore that's the name (or the lack of it) they got from their parents and they honor this decision or don't care enough to change it (like most humans do, too).
Oh, and there is The Unnamed One, of course.

No names for him or his family, ever. Just... no.

Because I'm really bad at naming things.
For real, when I was a kid my baby dolls where named after the color of their clothes. I had a red baby and a purple baby. Water baby was filled with water.
We are lucky my kids aren't kid 1 and kid 2.

I like to take a few days to name dragons sometimes. Sometimes a few weeks. Some people take even longer, that's just how they are. I pre-name hatchlings before sending them out if I don't want a dragon sitting unnamed on my lineages for ages or possibly forever, otherwise if you send a dragon away unnamed (especially on AH) that's just the risk you're taking. Some people just don't name their dragons at all, even permas; some of us get very attached to our dragons, while to others the dragon is pretty much just there to look pretty, and they don't feel the need to bother themselves naming it.
I know I'm opening up a controversial can of worms here, but I'd also like to say while on the subject, as far as unnamed exalts go: Some people don't train their fodder before exalting. Some people store up hundreds of fodder dragons and then mass-exalt them all at once during a push or the like, and thus don't feel like/have the time to even go clicking through the random name generator before exalting every single dragon. It's easier and less time consuming to just click through the dragons' pages and just click "exalt", and have that be the end of it.
Mind you I'm not an exalting lair. I exalt very, very occasionally, and usually just when I need to increase my treasure for something, so grab a cheap adult off the AH and train and thus name any fodder I get first. But that's my guess as to unnamed exalts. Like I said, that's a risk you take when you send out a dragon unnamed, especially at or near fodder price. The fix to it is simply naming a dragon before you sell, even with the generator. If the person who picks it up intends to keep it and dislikes it's name, they'll just get a renaming scroll for it. Otherwise it's their dragon to do whatever they want with now, including keep it as an unnamed perma or exalt it unnamed.
Either way, any of it is perfectly fine in my eyes. Some people play differently than others, that's simply how it is. There's no "right" or "wrong" play style on FR, which is one of the nice things about this place. c:

I can take weeks to months and sometimes longer to name dragons I have every intention of keeping. After having named hundreds of dragons, you start to run out of ideas. Or in my case, I have a huge list of names and sometimes none of them fit the dragon and I end up stumped.
That being said, if I do change my mind about keeping them, I usually name them before I sell them just to be sure they are named, since I always sell for less than what I purchased them for.
