edit: huh, if the enclycopedia says its the northern most part of the globe... i wonder if overall the climates on Sonreith are just completely different to earth cuz regardless, that one little Nature island is more north than the pillar, which doesn't really make sense if the north is supposed to be cold.
haha yah, the Pillar is literally the North pole.
so i'm def going magic god territory climates.
like if Icewarden wanted to set up where Plague was instead and vice versa, we'd have frozen land right in the middle and disease desert/goo land at the bottom of the world regardless of what you would think for a 'normal' planet. since you know, this one isn't exactly normal.

is very likely to take your posts literally - has difficulty discerning if tone is joking
The science side of my brain is wondering if Sornieth is tilted/wobbling on its axis, with that tilt being locked towards the sun (like how we always see the same side of the moon on RL-Earth). However, I'm no astrophysicist, so I don't actually know if that's practical. If it was, the desert thing would be in absolute full play... but also Ice might have near-eternal night, and that only fits for Shadow... and Light is way too close to Shadow to have that, too. Hrmph. Stupid magic.

Expanding on the poles--our "north" and "south" poles on our little blue planet are frozen over because they don't get any direct sunlight from our sun, but theyre also the "ends" of our slightly oval-shaped planet. I feel like this might mean that the planet itself is just oriented differently compared to ours... so the "pole" where the Earth flight is located is actually more where our equator is!

Wow, I never even thought of this! My first thought would be hot, but perhaps it's a cold, arid northern desert. and maybe it's frigid at night and hot during the day?

hehe hiiii
I always saw it as like permanently 50F/10C

Overall temperature ideas:
Earth: Real hot and dry during the day and horrible cold at night. The idea of archeology makes me think of digging while burning under the hot sun you have to have a really tough hide, and Snappers have that in spades.
Fire: Self explanatory. Degrees going from 'man I hate this' to 'everything including the metal is melting' I hope you non Fire dragons have those enchanted medallions to keep you from dying horribly, especially since Fire dragons enjoy sleeping in lava.
Wind: Nice moderate temperature with normal seasons, except when some extra cold air is picked up from the Icefields.
Water: Hot above, ranges of cooler below.
Ice: Also self explanatory. Range of freezing is how close you are to the Fortress. Near the Fortress those who are not Ice are going to end up like travelers who go off the path on Everest unless they have their own enchantments.
Lightning: Desert. Mostly like Earth with burning all the day(probably even hotter though), freezing at night... unless you are too close to the giant machinery.
Shadow: Some areas are warmer, like near Plague, but a kind of cool dampness is often prevalent.
Light: Mostly warm due to constant sun. A bit cooler in the 'winter' though I don't think it gets all that much cooler.
Plague: HOT. The desert is dry hot, the other areas are wet hot.
Nature: Also HOT due to rainforest. Probably humid a lot of the time.
Arcane: Irradiated? Unsure. Possibly decent temperature if you don't care about the arcane fallout and meteors.

It could vary by elevation. Scorching hot valleys, chilly plateaus.

i never really thought about it, but if i’d have to guess i’ll second this!
edit: spelling error bc i’m dumb

Honestly I never through about this. I just kind of processed it as lukewarm. Like, ambient room temperature.

huh. i wanna say pretty hot? and maybe the plateaus and crevaces provide some shelter from that heat.

Well... there are desert-looking climates that aren't necessarily totally hot or cold. Earth doesn't necessarily have to be near the north pole - I don't think it is, with Nature right next to it - the north pole is probably quite a ways off in the ocean. I think Earth is, as suggested by the mountain the banner is set in, is at a pretty high elevation - you can kinda see how it drops off in elevation by nature. And if nature is a rainforest... well, I'd compare earth to say, Bolivia's higher mountain areas, such as La Paz and the Salar de Uyuni - both at about 12kft/3.5k meters. I believe temperatures average in the 60s/50s F throughout the year. And when you drop elevation down to Santa Cruz, it quickly gets very rainforest-y/forest-y in general, cuz that's the Amazon. You get the occasional trees, you get the salt deposits in Salar de Uyuni, similar I imagine to Earth's minerals... y'know. Plus, Pillar of the World is right there, highest point in the world - makes sense they'd build it at a higher elevation to start with to minimize building costs. Only wind and arcane territorities would be higher and they have floating islands/hurricanes, so.

you're thinking too logical, why are the deities minimizing building costs and why would the gladekeeper not conquer this cold region of land that should be a rainforest /lh
edit: okay but for real why did you say "minimizing building costs" am i overthinking this
