Other games that involve breeding for colors / patterns / etc occasionally allow inbreeding to a degree. Some dont, some do. They were just curious.

@QuirkyJunimo Dang, lonelyspaceegg beat me to it, but I'll post what I have anyway because I also include something extra. [emoji=guardian tongue] Using Assay Bloodlines, Fire and Ash cannot breed because they are related to a common ancestor, Kailea (#32485707). Fire's father is Theron, Kailea's son. Fire is Kailea's grandson. Fire -> Theron -> Kailea Ash's father is Kyan. Kyan's mother is Laurinda. Laurinda is Kailea's daughter. Ash is Kailea's great-granddaughter. Ash -> Kyan -> Laurinda -> Kailea Regarding the element thing, dragons are element of the nest that they were born in. What lair they end up in or what elemental nest they were hatched in has no bearing on their ability to breed together, all that matters is the lineage. People may move Flights or rent out nests, so it's not unusual for ancestors to be a different element! ^^

Using Assay Bloodlines, Fire and Ash cannot breed because they are related to a common ancestor, Kailea (#32485707).
32485707_350.png

Fire's father is Theron, Kailea's son. Fire is Kailea's grandson.
Fire -> Theron -> Kailea

Ash's father is Kyan. Kyan's mother is Laurinda. Laurinda is Kailea's daughter. Ash is Kailea's great-granddaughter.
Ash -> Kyan -> Laurinda -> Kailea

Regarding the element thing, dragons are element of the nest that they were born in. Jeeze guys chill, they asked a question they didn't say they supported it

The question irked me a bit too but many of the responses here are down right accusatory and treating it like OP killed their parents.

As for why.. well thats already been answered. And honestly i would never want any inbreeding mechanic in fr anyway, it’d be too easy to get desired colours with it and just the moral implications… ack

Mechanics aside, there is a lot of media and old stories where dragon lore just ignores the consequences of inbreeding, so it's not unreasonable to imagine FR dragons might be similar conceptually. Dragons are fantasy creatures who can reproduce in any way we imagine, inbreeding could just not be a problem for them regardless of how we humans feel about it. But, I definitely prefer no inbreeding in my pet breeding game.

As other people have said, it’s a combination of breeding difficulty and also making it forbidden for moral reasons. Breeding for specific colors would be way easier if you didn’t have bloodlines to worry about, so breeding what you want without inbreeding is a challenge. And I guess setting a hard limit as to how related dragons can be and still be able to breed prevents any issues players would have with arguments on whether or not you should inbred. (Plus it makes it easier for players who would want to avoid inbreeding no matter what, because the game won’t really let you inbreed by accident. On other games like Wolvden that allow it, avoiding inbreeding can be a huge pain.)

FR’s breeding system is pretty simple, so inbreeding would make going for certain colours/genes too easy. Other sites like Wajas allow inbreeding, but they tend to have super complex breeding systems with gene/mutation visibility percentages and hex code colours and stuff.

As a weird old bit of FR trivia: I remember that there was a bug several years ago that let people inbreed dragons, though (like 2013-2015ish?). It’s been fixed, but the hatchlings of inbred pairs are infertile- they can’t be bred with any other dragon on the site. :0 Every now and then, one of these infertile dragons will go up for sale, but IIRC they’re crazy expensive.

i understand this question was not worded in the best way, i did a little double take too when i clicked in initially like "woah there," but from reading op's later posts it seems like op is just curious about the game mechanic. no need to assume the worst.

anyway, i'm sure many have already answered the question, but the mechanic is there to prevent the player from having too easy a time of breeding dragons. this is why one should always assay bloodlines before buying for breeding projects. too many people have learned that the hard way haha
