I'm too lazy to spend IRL money, so I just save up gems for genes lol
TOPIC | Buying vs earning gems?
Had 11,000 gems (until I spent em recently, I got 6000 now) that I all earned, never spent a dime on this game.

I typically save my gems and convert treasure into them via item sales forum. I've spent thousands upon thousands of gems since I've started playing, exact number unknown.
Recently, today actually, I finally caved in and bought gems for the first time. I've been playing for free every day, and I thought "why not buy some gems and support the site after almost five years of playing?" But the real reason is because I bought a coatl scroll with my free gems only to apply it on the wrong dragon.

Earning, I never buy currency from any game I play. I find methods like for example having a commission business here on FR
I have a few breeding projects I've designated gems are no object in the end and have happily bought gems to finish them off - but these are for dragons based on personal things I love off site so I don't mind spending the money on them. I might occasionally drop some outside of this because I'd consider it like spending money on a new video game I'd be playing otherwise, but the vast majority of time I attempt to earn if just because I don't want to spend too much money on a virtual thing.

I only buy gems when it's a time-sensitive sale- something where I need gems right then. Otherwise, I trade treasure for gems or just sell a bunch of stuff on AH.

Never spent money on the site because it's very fair. I always have ads enabled though and plan on buying merch.

I do both! I really don't mind supporting the site -- though I'm a little stingy when it comes to the gem genes themselves because I can't justify 15 dollars for one gene... I mostly buy gems if I want a UMA, or sometimes it'll be for a sweet g1 off the AH.
