Virtual pet games? Yes. Ones similar to FR? Not that I've found. FR is far and above with art quality, gene choices/colors, and apparel. Lorwolf is coming out sometime and seems to have some similarities, however, so I'll be checking that out when it's open.

I'd like to recommend Felisfire! It's a futuristic sci-fi petsim that has you assuming the role of a scientist who explores the titular alien planet, and studies its population of alien cat species, known as "xenofelinoids". The breeding system is similar to FR's in that each species is either dominant or recessive to the others, but more robust in that cats can have more-or-less infinite markings and each marking is colored by hex-code instead of a set color wheel. It can take some time to fully grasp, but allows for some absolutely stunning designs once you get the hang of it.
Your cats won't die either, just become too old to breed, but even then you can use items to revitalize them. The game also has a "Cryo Chamber" that allows you to put your cats in stasis so they don't age/require food.
The game does offer a "premium" subscription that unlocks various QoL features that you buy with the site's premium currency (Orbs), but like FR's Gems, they're pretty easy to obtain after you spend a little while playing the game. The community is also very generous and any new players can expect plenty of gift-bombing once you've signed up and joined the official Discord server linked onsite.

@SpaceRobotWifi it's funny you bring them up because they just sent me a rejection email this morning! So that's important to add here, some of these sites can reject you making an account with them for whatever reason.

I'm sorry that was your first impression, it's really a nice community. The registration process requires you answer a few questions to make sure you've read the ToS. It's a smaller site with a small staff team so it's a bit more stringent about registration in order to make sure they aren't overwhelmed by bots/etc. You might wanna contact their support email or get in touch with staff on the Discord to make sure it wasn't rejected on accident, as it has to be reviewed manually.

Hopping on the train of absolutely not recommending Dappervolk to anybody. For starters, if you go in expecting a pet-focused game, you will be disappointed. The pets are more something you can collect. It's also horrifically grindy for what it is, and what it is is a gacha visual novel pet site. You will get stuck on stat walls you can't pass without days and days of effort, and all you'll get in return is 5 minutes of extra story and maybe an extra random chance shop. Premium currency is also handled horribly; you can't trade it with other players in any way, and I've heard many premium items are also just an absolute pain to get officially (i.e not from other players). Their staff seems inclined to address basically none of their players' concerns. I would say any other game is a better bet than Dappervolk.

have to mention again that the creator/art director is a bad person which i explained in an earlier post. i really want to liquidate my account for fr items but im worried i might regret the decision in the near future and want my items back

If you enjoyed the Dustcarve Dig event you might like Tattered World! It's very quest-based, and a lot of the game revolves around bonding with the many shopkeepers and participating in monthly events to discover more about the lore of the game. All the NPCs are super fun to get to know, and the developers do a great job of including quality representation.
It's a pet game like Flight Rising, but instead of breeding dragons you collect and raise mystical creatures called "kith." Each kith has multiple forms they can level up into (kinda like Pokemon evolutions), and depending on how you interact with yours it can develop one of several different personalities. Raising a kith and unlocking a new kith slot always feels like an achievement.
There's a lot of other ways to play that are similar to FR: you can dress up your avatar, craft items, play mini-games, battle with your kith against creatures called "snarls," etc. Like FR's skins and accents, you can design and submit custom avatar clothing and kith art. You can even earn the game's main currency by posting in the forums! The community is really small but so far very friendly and chill.

i’ve tried dappervolk, dragon cave, slyvestia (how i got here, thank you ad box!), and goatlings— none of them really were as easy a pickup of FR
