This is just going to be a compilation of new breed ideas for DD!
the person who submits the closest design will win either 100g or 100kT, up to them!
Check out this countdown thread!
Here's my guess!! I think they'll look like a bird/bull mix? Scorpion tail? Yeah!
Heraldic dragon with long feathering tassels of fur?
I really like heraldic designs.
Sorry for the sketchyness but, maaaaaybe something like this? Inspired by the statues, and I feel like it would sorta be well armored + flexible and quick moving, but I don't know! Mine is kinda lame lol. I LOVE EVERYONE'S IDEAS! This is such a fun thread!
Unpopular opinion but this is what I see.
I did a quick 20min sketch for fun :3 inspired by Therizinosaurs :

Originally, I said lindworm. Then my brain said, spikes.

I didn't ahve time to draw it out, but I'm thinking something like ancient Egyptian statues, or a Sphinx. They have a mane, and smallish wings, plus a tufted tail. They're pretty stocky and their wings are partially covered.

I’ll submit this

Take a WoF MudWing. Make it stockier. Add tentacles/feelers beneath the chin for higher sensitivity in low light. Massive talons. Upturned jaw. Large eyes in order to take in maximum light. Small, vestigial wings. Long tail for balance. Big big big big big big big.
Tl;dr: VERY MASSIVE DRAGON.
Edit: here’s the sketch!

Short(but large in terms of weight/length) stocky dragons with thick horns. Probably large manes, with obvious scales on back part of the body. Probably visible teeth, or teeth similar snappers. Most likely big claws to tunnel/dig. Possibly having bat like ears, or similar to a spiral or tundras.

It's probably not clear, but i think theyre fluffy, or maybe even feathery? Big paws for digging, mouth that opens Wiiiiiiide. That sorta stuff
@Are wrote:
Modern: Chunkier dragon, smaller legs, very long tail, scaley and maybe some portions of it are crumbling in a way. Stiff and long horns, small ears.
Ancient: Two headed, very long and snake-like.

Here's my prediction!: Huge ram horns, giant sweeping ankylosaur tail, big heavy coarse-furred mane, maybe some pebbley crocodile hide. Wings are bat-like and spiky. Big rows of spikes along the back, claws are huge and blunt for digging. Jaw is like that of a crocodile but with massive blunt, slightly chipped tusks growing upwards. Overall a very muscular dragon. The front legs are beefy and large, the back legs are leaner. The end of the tail is massive and rock-like. Along the tail there is coarse fur like that of the mane with spikes breaking through.
P.S. to OP @Equinox6667 I edited my post, you can add that to the original post! since you added the previous version of mine. (of course!)

Alright here I go, just throwing something out and hoping it sticks:
-Four legs with at least the front pair built very large and strong for tunneling (or dare I say dustcarving perhaps?)
-No wings, why would you need to fly underground?
-Less stocky than Snappers, more streamlined for digging tunnels through stone (like the ones we saw on the second tunnel of DD!) and perhaps snatching dragons from the tunnels without being noticed o.o
-And finally, some thick protective scales on the front side of the dragon (especially the legs) so it doesn't hurt itself while digging. Rocks can sting.
Bonus: They'll be called Dustcarvers.

Although all of this just being for an ancient would be a bit disappointing, i doubt it’d be anything else. And hey, earth ancient is fine with me!
Thus i reckon a lyndworm dragon, much like proto-type earthshaker. I didn’t colour it as i just wanted to get the basic premise across
I doubt they’d have long snouts as at the moment all earth dragons have flat faces but i reckon it’d make more sense. It has whiskers on the end of the muzzle and two extra ones on either eyebrow to feel its way in the dark.

i made this design a few days ago for my own speculation thread, but why not submit it?
it's an earth/water hybrid. meant to be a design for either modern or ancient. big beakteeth for breaking earth and snapping up fish, burly flipperclaws (the wings are also flippers) for pushing boulders out of the way and making powerful strokes underwater, four eyes to see in the darkness and also as an allusion to how it's been made by two different deities. thick chest which combines with back scales to create something resembling a turtle shell (but still not completely inflexible so that it can be posed and also so shirt apparel wouldnt be hell) to protect against falling debris and attacks from behind. more of an isopod shell than a turtle shell but snapping turtle was what i had in mind while making this. the wings could mayyyyybe fly but maybe not, at least theyre good for swimming and have somewhat dexterous fingers with nails. thick legs for standing upright and to give leverage so those sturdy horns can push boulders out of the way. ankylosaur tail because having a naked tailtip just seemed wrong and the second i gave this baby a club ohhh myyyyy
oh, and this was made before the "statues" were revealed so i guess it has a petrifying stare lol.
basically, this thing was built for one thing and one thing only: kill shade (and maybe luminax once the all consuming void is under control)
it seemed to be exactly what was coming when i made it so if it doesn't come close (high probability) i'll use it as an oc because i am love <3

Big paws/hands great for digging. Unlike snappers, has finger-like toes (like most dergs). Wings that are bigger than snappers, more like normal dragon wings but not as adept for flying. Average thickness tail with spikes at the end. Head like uromastyx lizard. Low to the ground with short but strong legs (think irl pony when it comes to leg height) Bigger than snappers, but not as big as guardians/imps. Look perpetually angry and have natural head armor of some sort. Unlike the uromastyx lizards, they do have ears. The ears are like small circles (think tiny mouse ears) and are set on the side of the head. The neck is thick and is reminiscent of lizards.
Body looks tough, but not fat. Like a pitbull dog but slightly wider. I personally do not think this breed will have any significant amount of fur/feathers.
Here it is. It was hard to make a thick dragon look different from all the other bulky dragon designs people have come up with on different threads. There is one I know of similar body-shape wise but with different features.

I made a post in this forum about my Dragon Statue speculations, including a rough sketch of what I think the statues could look like, but here I'll just describe in words what my guess for the hypothetical new breed is:
I think it will be very lion-like in form, with a furry mane and tail tuft or maybe even feathers to be gryphon-like. But the wings, as shown in the statues, will be bat-like with three "fingers." The feet will likely be paws. The mouth could have a beak.
I also predict that one of the genders, possibly the males, will have bigger, more prominent horns and a shorter face, compared to the other gender. This is also visible in the statues.

looking at all of these are pretty fun
these are the ones we drew up based off of the apparent anatomy of the not-statues for our tumblr
the stuff around the necks might actually be fluff, but the tails, if you look at the non-statues, all seem to be oriented upwards, which is uh, rather un-fur-like, so I went with crystals, but I wonder if they might be some kind of nerergy like the windsinger's gustybreezes and banescale's Wraith trait? But we'll just have to wait and see

...Eh, not like I have anything to lose. Here's an Earth Ancient mockup I slapped on Tumblr a while back:
Based around the little face Ancients have in their Apparel section. Highly doubt were getting anything like this- firstly, a new Modern seems likely enough- but y'know.personally I think the statues just look like Tundras and maybe a few other breeds but I do enjoy seeing the more original takes on them

It’s a mess of all sorts of idea buts here’s what I mainly based it off;
-Bison/Buffalo, stocky and can headbutt boulders around
-Gargoyle, going off the theories others had about the statues
