I think the 2nd tunnel taking over 24 hours was in part caused by hoarding, but I think the bigger cause is staff just overestimating how much we could do. I saw way more people donating 100-300+ items than I did on the 1st tunnel, but it still took us twice as long as the 1st tunnel.
The fact that the chest was added in relatively early and the "That would explain what we're seeing. If you're saving supplies for the final milestone before the current bars are filled, it'll make the other milestones—including Milestone 2—take longer." comment suggests that the 2nd tunnel was not supposed to take this long, so I really, really hope the requirements for the 3rd tunnel chill out a bit.

I'm not grinding so me "hoarding" effects almost nothing. But I have to agree with the other players mentioning the rewards not really being worth putting that much effort in. As oppose to going hard for multiple days, I can focus my efforts on the last tunnel that I can actually be a bit more active for. I'm assuming that's what's happening, especially once people saw the contents of the first chest and realized that (most likely) none of the rewards are gonna be that special until the very end.
Basically if someone said "You can only play for one day so pick which day you play" players are going to pick the day that the biggest thing happens. I think if staff is concerned about this player phenomena, they should rework the rewards if this event happens again later on. I was actually pretty shocked when I read that you will get the full rewards for turning in even a single item. I understand their mindset for that mechanic, so even the most low-activity players could participate. But this is the type of gameplay its going to breed.

To the older players who have said the rewards weren't really worth it...I do feel you there. The food is utterly useless to me. I have way more food from coli than I'll ever have dragons to eat. The second chest was cool and all cause I'm restarting a coli team...but I could just as easily buy eliminates if I had too.
While I'm personally okay with the low level rewards for the early stages (and hoping the future ones will be more)...I DO hope it's something staff considers for future events (if they ever do another). For a lot of players 80 pieces of food in each food time and 3k treasure just isn't anything... I'm sitting on over 10k-15k food points in each food point and a few hundred thousand treasure. Eliminates are cool, but the health potions and other battle stones already sit in stacks in my vault.
Right now the HOPE of what might be at the end is driving me forward. But honestly, if the end reward isn't incredible...I'll be joining the ranks on the next event of...gathering and turning in once a day and hopping off to other things regardless if it takes a year or ten to unlock.

Agree, though I dont wish to see retired items all the time either. Going to be tricky to find that sweet spot. Maybe it should have been 10 collective total, which would include basic dailies and not hard for someone to do? Rather than just one maybe?
And as for rewarding active players, say if the first one was just food, you could earn more food based on how much you submit, but there would still be a minimum you could obtain just by submitting the minimum. This way, it gives incentives to grind, but also doesnt create exclusive items. If I knew I could get 10x the food reward for submitting 10x the mats I would be inclined to work a LOT harder.
Then the second chest has a CHANCE for 2 elims? No thanks. If I could grantee EARN 2 elims then I would be more inclined.

About the reward chests not feeling exciting - I get that feeling, too. The best motivation, I feel, is the mystery, and since the chests are 1) full of already-existing items, and 2) are found and posted about far before the milestone finishes, it really isn't all that motivating to finish any particular milestone, at least on the prize side of things. At least the chest images are different, so they look nice together in my vault.
I'm mainly grinding and donating to push for more story. Which means people hoarding stuff for the final one scares me because if we go too fast, people (which could include me depending on when it drops) will miss the in-progress Velya dialogue/digging image for the final dig.
I also don't quite get why the interim prizes being unexciting makes people hoard for the final push. Every item donated during any milestone pushes us closer to the final prize, not just in the last one. If too many people hoard, the digging portion will last longer in total than it would if people just donated at a steady rate, since the last portion could potentially be over-donated very quickly, and those excess supplies could have been used to make progress earlier.

Tbh, work is super busy. I’m hoping stage 5 starts on weekend so I can go full bore too :)

People seem to be thinking that if the 5th days digging bars fill up immediately, staff will close it and hand out the final days reward immediately, and I just don’t see that happening.
Much more likely is that no matter how quickly it fills, we still don’t get the reward until after it’s been open for at least 24 hours so that all players have a chance to participate turning in items before the final reward is spoiled for them.

I can understand why this would be confusing, since even staff seems perplexed. Basically, people think going ham is fun. The grinding is fun. But most people can't do it that actively for such a sustained period of time, so most people want to save the fun to the end when there's a special reward and everyone will be online and going crazy all at the same time. Like if someone told you "You need to finish this meal, any bite of food will get you closer to finishing." Most people wouldn't be like "Oh okay so then I'll eat it a single bite at a time across a few days" Most people are gonna say "Oh okay, let me wait till I have time then sit down and have a nice meal."
Edit: To add, its also just fun to see the number jump up a bunch at once rather than a little at a time. Its honestly basic human nature. I get that there's no logic to it but most people are going to do this if there's no great incentive not to. Which is why I was surprised to hear even 1 item contribution gets you the prize.

finnamony From what I can tell, its a static number that everyone is working towards. Probably in the multiple thousands.
