Basic primary is a lot more robust than it seems. I even made a guide to showcase it.

TOPIC | I'm growing fond of basic
I've been growing fond of basic too! My two best examples of triple basic are:
Thalassa

I think basic looks really good a lot of the time, I love how it's not cluttered! But, especially in regards to lore, I think genes can even be distracting. I've been inspired by Bounty of the Elements lately, and I always imagine most of those dragons as triple basic, and I think describing genes would distract from their stories because you spend too much time on the visuals and not on the meaning. Most of my new perma dragons will probably have at least one basic gene. I definitely love basic!

I’ve been wanting to gene him for so long, but I haven’t been able to find the right ones. There must be a reason for that, so I just left him with a basic primary and tert, and he rocks it. I’m planning on changing his secondary to Bee but keeping the rest of him simple. His accent already does most of the visual heavylifting.
A few of my dragons don’t have a tert gene, since a lot of primaries already look great by themselves(like Skink) and would look cluttered with something thrown on top. It’s nice to look at dragons who are easy on the eyes.

I don't usually like Basic because it feels incomplete but there is this one dragon who looks really good with it. Sadly she needs primal eyes and I'm sick of scattersighting so she's been locked in the den forever.

Basic is great for showing off accents, or to back the more complex terts, or just for that matte look. I also use it with a lot of my fandragons :)

I used to be vehemently against leaving any gene basic, but i've slowly nurtured an appreciation for it over the time i've played. When every other gene lets you down, basic is there to catch you. I stan basic gene dragons.
