What really doesn't make sense is that it's described as a thin sheen on the belly with a layer of liquid underneath, then presumably the actual skin. So why does it make the entire neck transparent?? Not to mention that looks like a lot more than a thin layer

SO THAT'S what people have been complaining about. I looked and looked and couldn't see it but now I have seen the light! YOU SEE STRAIGHT THROUGH THE BACK OF HIS NECK.
Nice.
I still love the loops of liquid though, that's cool.

Are you ready for a scary story...?

How MSpirals should probably look:

Will he ever stop experimenting with magic? We don't know, but all the dragons he's accidentally transformed from other things don't mind so much.

Yeah not a fan of this gene. That's definitely more than a "thin layer". I hope they fix the male spiral, because the whole neck should not be transparent.
there are some animals irl that have this effect, though it's typically on the whole body rather than sections. it has something to do with the molecules on these animals skin/scales catching the specific color lightwaves from an object or whatever that's behind them, and the color changing flesh reacts to "show" whatever is behind it. like chameleons and some other animals. doesn't really make sense when you consider the description of the gene, but if you apply fr logic to it, it can work.
i admit it looks odd but it's grown on me! i've been waiting for some semi transparent genes for a long time and this'll do.

Yeah, they are the only ones with a transparent back, looks like someone has been overthinking about the spiral's spiral by a pinch thinking they would have to do something complicated or fun without realising that it actually shouldn't be visible?

@galaxygodling YEAH That's pretty much exactly what it should look like?? Again I really don't get why they went with the design they did w/ the spirals for this gene..
(Also do you mind if i put this next to the picture in the beginning of this? I'll put down that you edited it to look like what it should and all that.)

@Kumatora
Someone earlier compared it to butterfly wings! It's why there is more of a shadow on the back knot than there is just pure emptiness and being able to see through completely.

They're done like to match the upcoming Primary: Bottle and Secondary:
Glass
at least, i'm hoping for matching genes 'cause that would be really rad
