I tend to go with themed names, something they remind me of or make me think of.
For my nocs, I hatched a lovely looking female and bought a nice mate for her off the AH. They're mostly blue and their babies are primarily blue, sometimes a bit of purple gets in. Made me think of the blue dragon flight from World of Warcraft, so I named the male Malygos who is the Aspect of the Blue Dragon Flight, and named her Saragosa who is one of his consorts.
My pastel coatls, after I planned out their genes, they made me think of the northern/southern lights. So I named them Australis and Borealis, in reference to Aurora Borealis - the northern lights, and Aurora Australis - the southern lights.
My tundras were a bit harder to name, took me quite some thinking, but eventually I settled on naming them after two of the Five Rivers of Hades. Acheron - the river of woe, and Lethe - the river of forgetfulness. Of course, now I'm keeping my eyes open for dragons that look like they would be fitting for the names of the other three rivers - Cocytus, Phlegethon, Styx, and the ferryman - Cheron.
What about you guys? How do you name your dragons, any story behind their names?

I sometimes get inspired by the funny Random Names that are generated! I normally name my fodder after music (see: Cyndi, Toni, Pat... and I've also named a million dragons like Witchfinder and BlackMedick and Candlemass lol sorry)
Sometimes it's their colors, like Esmeralda is named directly because she's green, Bluebird because she has similar coloring to a bluebird, and Kolokolchik just because he has bright colors so he needed a bright and sparkly sounding name!
My progen is named Hadrian because I'd just finished a book on the Emperor Hadrian (real creative) and I named my random progen Sveta just because I like that (nick)name
I used to have a bunch of Spirals named after solar system moons and Skydancers named after flowers, but then I decided to limit the size of my lair and got rid of most of them

I like to have a theme! All my dragons are named after herbs, spices, vegetables, fruits, trees, flowers, and other plants. :)

Before I really got into FR, the only way I would name my dragons was through generating random names. Once I actually got into FR though, I started caring about the names my dragons had and started naming them myself.
If I plan to exalt, I won't mind generating a name, but if I'm going to sell it or keep it, I'd rather give it a name myself.
Gotta say, I'm glad I got lucky and hatched Saragosa. Was a really low chance of getting nice colours from her parents since they pretty much had every colour between them.

really stupidly average people names. trying to keep up an elaborate, fantastical namimg theme just takes more effort than i'm willing to give :p

I struggle. And use the randomizer. And ask for help. Google lotsa stuff. And after a few weeks or so, the right name will just pop into my head and it's perfect.
My fodder gets suburban soccer mom/grill dad names. Ellen, Steve, Rob, Sharon.

Ooh, a whole lair theme. Don't think I could manage to pull something like that off. Good on you though, those things make for some pretty nice names.
Any reason you decided to have your theme be plants and such?

The names I come up with are used because they sound good.
Names like Oracle, Revenant, and Ironheart were planned out beforehand. Meaning, I had the name but no dragon to attach it to.
Names like Hierarchy, Judgment, and Adamant simply sounded good.
Names like Gabuthelon were inspired by mythological names I liked.
Names like Helios were based on the appearance of the dragon.
etcetera.

Hey, friendly reminder to drink water, stretch, and take a short break if you can. Stay healthy! Also, don't forget about any chores or tasks you might be putting off.

Thriiller yeah, I usually don't keep the random names, but sometimes they make me laugh (my favorite so far has been Furyrage but I exalted him), or they'll make me think of a similar, better name

That's how I was, too, back when I first joined. Couldn't really find it in me to care enough about the names my dragons had.
I blame @
Jokesy for actually getting me interested in FR again.

Sometimes bouncing ideas off of others can definitely help. I know I've asked the opinion of others before when I was stuck on names. My tundra's were either going to be called what they are now, or Enlil and Ninlil, both of whom are Mesopotamian gods of...I think wind or wisdom.
