Clayscale had been watching Melody carefully, eyes following the movement without even realising that she was doing it. Overhearing snatches of muttered conversation, then quickly pretending she hadn't. It would just be better to ignore Melody until she went away. That'd be the safest option for everyone. Especially if, as she dreaded, the killer was starting to attack dragons even if they weren't alone.

A sudden spike in movement caught her attention again as Melody took to the air. She watched sadly as the skydancer fled, but concluded that running was probably the right decision for those who could.

She almost looked away before Melody began to fall.

While she knew she would never be fast enough to catch Melody before she hit the ground, Clayscale nonetheless stumbled to her feet and began to move. A clumsy, wavering half-jog, wings bracing against the ground like crutches, pushing her back up every third or fourth step when her shattered limbs inevitably gave in from the weight and sudden movements. Her tail lashed out, snagging the blanket Melody had dropped with a sharp spine and carrying it along with her.

She paused as she reached the skydancer's fallen form, unsure of what to do. She didn't have any medical skill, nothing beyond how to deal with cuts and burns, and she didn't trust Arian at all. There was clearly a broken bone here... It seemed that she'd just have to use a little trial and error.

She gently cloaked the blanket over Melody, and stumbled back to her den, as fast as she could manage without tripping. A few minutes later, she returned with a shard of broken pottery and a bowl full of wet clay. Sitting down next to Melody, she sat the blanket on her lap and began to cut strips off one edge. Once she was done, she prayed to whatever deity was listening that this would work, and set Melody's broken leg in place. It didn't take much effort to make an improvised cast out of the fabric strips, coated in clay, but the caution in her movements was stressful to maintain.

When she was done, she draped what was left of the blanket back around Melody's shoulders, and contemplated what to do now.

Here is what happened behind each Kill:

First Kill (Hastur’s Near-Death):
Clayscale wanted to kill Hastur to access his merchant’s goods.
Being a potter who makes pots, most of the Clan’s food will be stored in at least some of her pots. That gives her access to the Clan’s food.
Clayscale’s attempt to poison the water was thwarted by the Guard.

Second Kill (Kazaya’s Death):
Assuming the mine is large and sparsely lit, it wouldn’t have been hard for Clayscale to sneak up on Kazaya with the burning torch. Furthermore, Kazaya was distracted by the bloodstains.

Third Kill (Yes, Maybe & No’s Near-Death):
Silver dust in some culture’s folklores have harmful effects against monsters like werewolves.
Silver dust is actually sometimes used in pottery, so Clayscale has a reason to have it.

Fourth Kill (Hastur’s Death):

The Nighttime

Nathaniel held out a claw to the fallen dragon's familiar in a token attempt to ease the wolf and gain their trust. The wolf ignores him and seems to regard all the surrounding dragons with equal distrust. Or maybe it's just him and his face. He stands and twitches his wings before starting towards the body. The hazebeacon on his shoulder gives a series of low chirps for the wildclaw's ears only. He kneels by Shadowfax's bloodied body. Sharp blue eyes survey the den around them. He makes note of the frightened animals keeping their distance before examining the body itself.

It doesn't tell him much, other than she was trampled by her own pets, something that anyone could see. Nathaniel stands once again before... staring... at nothing in particular, a claw under his chin. He suddenly gives a violent hack and covers his bloody mouth as he turns to the other dragons. "The familiars seem spooked..." he comments before slowly stalking away. Sver nips him in the neck and Nathaniel swipes at the hazebeacon. "I'm not leaving you god**** bird, but there's nothing to gain from being front and center." he growls.
