The tree's height should give you a good [i]vantage point[/i] for surveying the surrounding. On the other hand, there seems a [i]town[/i] a little bit away. Heck yeah, let's head towards town! After we descend the tree, of course. (And I had a mini heart attack when I first saw the symbol on that hat, until I saw it had three arms, not four! ^^')

First, let's try interacting with this new person. They look... not too alive to me, but better to make sure. Try greeting them. If they say nothing, wait to see if they move or anything. If not, perhaps a gentle (VERY gentle, don't hurt them with your sword-claws!) poke? If that doesn't work, let's go back for the backpack! We forgot all about it! No way it won't be useful. I think the indefinite tool is still in there.

EDIT: And somehow I just noticed the cat in the void. Mysterious...
